Does ford really suck that bad?

Just wondering what people's experiences with Ford cars is. I know alot of people dislike them but I have had nothing be good experiences from my ford Explorer. I would love to hear some horror stories and some glorification. I am just intrested in general what people think. If people want to just have a brand flame I would prefer that not to be without proper examples.

 

I realize ford vehicles carry some arcaic elements in them, like mustangs with solid rear, hp/liter sucks, and no variable valve timing (i think maybe on the 4 cyl), and ohc finally in 96. So tryt o keep it to reliability issues and overall product quality. thanks :)

Ok... Had a rental car one time after crashing my truck; It was an (almost brand new at the time) 02 ford Contour Gt. Drove nice, had good power and options.. Then the damn thing 'locked' into cruise control while I was driving in town. Actually, the stupidly designed plastic clip that worked the throttle when cruise was active, broke and jamed. :shock: I had been on the highway earlier that day, had the cruise set to about 110kph. Sure enough, before I knew what was going on the thing was trying to get back up to 110 IN TOWN!!!! I pretty much killed the brakes and I'm sure there was major engine damage in the end, cause I finaly smacked it into nutral and it reved to 7K and stayed there till I turned off the key!

 

I had a 91 escort GT for a while too.. Not really a terrible car, but again, some aspects of the design were.. imo, silly. The 'force you to wear them' passive seat belts (got me in the side of the head a few times..) and the awefull body roll in corners would be the major problems I had.. Oh ya, the rear strut towers ROTTING off the car and having the struts pop into the hatch area... boing boing.... :twak:

Recalls are extremly common, just about every vehicle has them. Although most arent that serious. Only when things like exploding tires or fuel tanks does it make the news.

 

Examples...

 

*DR rams 2002-03....blower motor wiring recall, brake caliper recall, power mirror recall

*BR rams 94-2001....emissions purge system recall

*first gen neons.....brake booster hose recall

*RS Caravan....2 p/s hose recalls, power liftgate module recall

*NS Caravan....clockspring recall, fuel rail recall

 

I just dont like Ford because I find them to be a PIA to fix. Then tend to put things in places that are very difficult to get to. GM is the same way but I still like GM just for the fact that there are a ton of aftermarket parts for their engines. Ford pretty much just has the 4.6L and old 5.0L and thats it. Yeah I work on dodges all day long but there isnt an aftermarket for them. I like the fact that Dodge doesnt do a lot of stupid things to make fixing your vehicle a nightmare. However I think thats about to change with the new Durangos and Rams. The engines are barried under the firewall.

 

Here's how I see the big three... Chevy, Dodge and ......................................Ford! LOL

I got a rental car, Ford Contour, hit a pothole, the entire lower control arm broke off and the strut was torn off, causing me to have one hell of a wreck while driving 30mph in town! Biggest POS I've ever seen, cast aluminum lower control arm???? Come on Ford, I really think that part needs to be steel!

I bought the Missus a 05 Focus. Apart from the annoying turn signal "click", it is actually quite a pleasant car to drive. Still new, so long term quality remains to be seen, but so far it seems good. The engine is surprisingly peppy. Dealership was a PITA to deal with though....but that is to be expected.

I would expect aluminum control arms on the GT. Aluminum arms that didn't crack for sure, but I'd be pissed if I bought that thing and it had steel control arms unless of course they were heims jointed ends on DOM tubing or something like that. Stamped steel is not OK on a modern supercar.

 

What I wouldn't expect is their 1/2 ton pickup to have aluminum control arms too, and it does. When I was truck shopping the two things that got me away from the Ford were the engine (didn't feel as powerful as the GMC despite the higher hp rating) and the bed height. The damn F150 has a bed that's gotta be 5' off the ground. I can only imagine trying to load a motorcycle in the back of that thing... :mad:

 

The other universally horrible thing about Ford was the people working at the dealership. F#cking @ssholes every one.

I (or someone in my immediate family) personally have had horrible luck with all 3 of the "American" car companies and marginal luck with a Mazda. I basically stick to Nissan and Toyota now. My dad being a Nissan master mechanic working at a Toyota dealership has its advantages also.

I think that most Ford cars arent all that great, but then again all cars have there inherant (sp) problems. Then again though, I have found Ford trucks are usually good.

 

The two Ford line cars Ive had werent all that great a vehicle.

totally un-modified ford trucks that Ive owned and worked on in the past were comparable to chevy trucks IF totally un-modified that Ive owned and worked on in the past if they were maintained well the problem, is with getting parts after a few years(in some cases, and the cost of those parts)

both chevy and ford parts are rediculusly over priced but in many cases chevy parts between differant years can be swapped or substituted , ford has a rotten habit of totally redesigning or obsoleteing parts, engine lines,trans, even bolt paterns making swaps difficult.

both companys SUCK in some areas , but FORD seems to take PRIDE in making things difficult for mechanics
