nope
haha my car is pretty much a no engine beater still, i did some interior insulation work like 2-layer fatmat everywhere and 1-layer heat insulation everywehre and new carpet kit (1/2 way installed). Other than that, its just the brake kit, suspension bushings, LCAs and wheels/tires. ill trim the inner fender when i decide what im going to do with the flares (bolt on or mold on) and when i have the struts out to switch to coilovers. At that point i can do all the trimming and fender work and clean up/recoat the wheel wells before reinstalling the struts. Ive posted some other pics here and there, i guess just search for my posts.. should be a few. Ill upload more soon and create a gallery or something. cant move my car out of the garage right now, new tires are pressing up against the spring perches just enough to make it really hard to push the car. sucks. nice wheels btw
Guest DatsunSigma
Cool project nope, really cool narration to all the pics! The car looks like its in nice shape too, I especially like the multicolor effect!
nazar
Hi All' date=' Well I put these brakes on my 77 about 6 months ago and they are great. I even managed to use my 15" snowflake rims. I just had to use a 1/2 spacer to clear the calipers, but I want just a bit more clearance so I will have to add some thin aluminum shims say 1 mm more. You also need to grind down the end of the lower control arm so that they do not rub under cornering. I went all the way down to the ring on the inside of the LCA. If you turn the LCA over and look at the lower ball joint area you will see the inner supporting metal. Also I removed enough of the lip so that when I turned my wheel the rotor will not rub around the sides. I wish I could post some pictures but for some reason I can not post them. If you have any questions or want some pictures drop me an e-mail and I will send you a few. Enjoy the brakes. HB280ZT[/quote'] damn i just realized what that was, my inside, outer part of the rotor rubs the control arm, i wasnt sure what that was...i only pushed the car out of the garage, probably 20 ft, but it was enough to grind a grove into the outside edge of the rotor will this be ok? guess i gotta do some grnding...i wonder if the bump steer spacers made this problem even worse

(I speak from experience) What flares are those? The wheels are killer BTW. Mike.
Mikelly
Guys Dan Baldwin brings up a very good point about brake bias and setting up your car with these large brakes up front. Take the time to plumb in an aftermarket bias adjuster so you can balance the system. Even though you may end up having to use the shoes on the rear, you'll still be able to balance the system to work well if you take the time to properly adjust the bias between both. Also, don't cheap out on cheap brake fluid, especially now that you've spend all that coin on good brakes! Mike
HB280ZT
Mike is absolutely right! I ran part of last year without a proportioning valve in the system and I had problems with the front-end locking up. This winter I put in rear disc brakes and a proportioning valve to solve part of this problem, but I still do not have the car on the road yet. Hopefully in the next 3 weeks I will have it back on the road and I will let you all know how it all works out. I also upgraded brake fluid to ATE Super Blue Racing. It has a boiling point of 536 deg so this should solve any brake fade when I take it back to the track for fun and games this year!! Guest brisk1961
www.arizonazcar.com I do believe he said they will clear most 16's' date=' 17's for sure. They are 12.2 and you usually want to add about 3" to your brake size to figure out wheel size. meaning 16's will fit. for that kit however, you need 260/280 front hubs, which I ordered through all Z speacialists in texas, along with 280 rear stub axles[/quote'] How much did the front hubs cost you? I can considering the same upgrade and just want to add up all of the costs. Also, did you upgrade the Master Cylinder? I think Dave recommends a ZX model. Dave's intstructions require this to be done.
Roostmonkey
I just finished the same brake kit and have heard mixed opinions as to where the proportioning valve should be mounted. Ive heard that these fronts will over power anything in the rear so install it in the fronts line to allow more bias to the rear.Ive seen them installed inside the cab against the tunnel indicating the rears are proportioned.Ive heard you both dont and do have to gut the stock valve. If there is a definative answer to these mixed opinions, please advise. You want it on the rears. There is less braking required from the rears so you need to limit the rear pressure. I like mine in the cab. Easier to fine tune. I left the stock valve ungutted on both cars. I can set it to lock the fronts or rears first.
JMortensen
Do not, DO NOT install the proportioning valve in the front line. If a proportioning valve were truly proportional, that would work fine, but they aren't. They actually have a "knee" in the pressure level. So they'll work linearly to a point, then they hit the knee and the pressure drops off from there. So if you REALLY stomp on the brakes you'll have less front brakes with the prop valve in front. That means a spin is more likely the faster you go and the harder you stomp the brake pedal. BAAAAAD IDEA! Bump I too would like some info on the rear flares please. thread mentioning flare info: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?p=588987#post588987 im pretty sure Jon is right about them being MSA IMSA flares i found them on this site as well: http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240z.html http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240Z-p-4INCHFLAIR.JPG
cygnusx1
I left the original 280Z prop valve fully functional and ran a new rear line from the stock prop valve to the adjustable prop valve and then to the rear splitter. The adjustable valve fits in the ashtray pocket of the trans tunnel. This is the way Dave at AZC told me to do it. It works well. I can lock the fronts or the rears first. The proportioning valve is about half way through it's adjustment for proper balance.
