violacleff Posted March 19, 2006 Share Posted March 19, 2006 Well now that my z is wrecked, it looks like the possibility of insurance fixing it is bleek. I'm thinking the best they will give me is 3-4k for my car. This would be enough for me to fix it on my own but its going to take me a long time to get it done. Unfortunately I don't have a second car to get to work. So I figured I'd get me a beater while I slowly source the parts for my Z. Luckily my neighbor says I can keep it in his backyard while I restore it again. So, question is can I get a decent car for 2k? Like something that will run for at least a year without too many major problems? What kind of car should I look for? I don't want another z or anything that old. You should be able to find one in your price range. Then after it breaks, you could go spend another $500 and get another and another and another. Otherwise the car is in great condition. You should easily find one for $2000 or less. They are fun cars and the aftermarket is huge since it comes stock with a B18A. Which is the base for the famed "LS/VTEC". My younger brother has one with the LS/VTEC and it's pretty quick. His is lowered and such, mine is stock for now. I see some great pickups and other cars with salvage title that look pretty darn normal with the exception of a dent or messed up bumper. You have price haggling ability with a savlage title car and it still can look & drive well! I take it that this is a temporary car for you to drive... You intruded on my thread and your attitude contributed to the shut down. You are the one that didn't read your insurance policy and is now without a car. EDIT Whoa, that was a little harsh of me. Cavaliers actually have pretty reliable engines and trannys. All of the other body parts will fall off before 100K. But if you just need it for a year, then why pay the markup of a Japanese make? Funny that in 5 pages of thread you failed to point out one "baseless" opinion of mine. You asked why the forum had died and put a poll up. The greater percentage of that poll was exactly what I said it would be. A Corolla or its GM twin, the Prism, might be a better price/condition compromise. I found a $1200 1990 Honda Accord last year, but it was in really rough condition. And the fuel mileage isn't that great - around 25 mpg in mixed city/highway driving. My 1991 Corolla (bought for $1800 in 2001) would get around 32 mpg. V8 Mustangs, on the other hand, command quote a premium. Finding one below $2000 from any year, in any condition, would be quite a challenge! I think I could probably find one of those cheap. Agreed accords still demand high dollar. If I could find something 1200-1500 that would leave more cash for the z.
