BillZ260
Pig Launcher! DOH! Good Job naviathan - I'd bet on that's what it is.
johnc
It's a pig launcher for cleaning pipes! Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! Its a Pig Gurney for launching and receiving pipline inspection and cleaning Pigs. I did like the pork rhinds guess - like a big lathe that peels the skin right off the pig. naviathan
YEAH!!!!! I really had no idea, but I had read something about large pipe cleaners being called pig launchers.
flames_187
do they seriously launch the pigs...lol...i gotta see this!
naviathan
No it pushed a large foam "bullet" down the line the clean the insides of the pipes out. Launching a pig through a pipe wouldn't do much for cleaning, but it damn sure would make a hell of a mess.

Tony D
Like Steve Allen on "To tell the Truth", I had to withdraw myself from the competition because of familiarity with the subject matter. The three pages were better than an answer right off anyway. I'm glad someone WAG'd it and finally got it! To be honest I was looking back becasue I wanted to spoil it after 24 hours or so anyway...LOL!
Tim240z
Here it is in action: (BTW, they call them "Pigs" because back in the day, they used tools made of leather and when they went through the pipeline, the leather against the steel made a squeeling sound like a pig) Here is some background if anyone is interested. http://www.bjservices.com/website/index.nsf/P&S?openframeset

Tony D
Tim, I could have gone the rest of my life without ever seeing that photo! Gargh! That brought back memories. We used them for cleaning the accumulation out of landfill gas recovery pipes... Imagine that smell. It comes back to me now. It came back when I saw that photo, as well. Eeeych!
