deja
Holy crap! I rarely street race but every now and then…… This morning on the way to work I pulled up next to a pretty cool looking new Cadillac. The light changed and I started off normal, a bit quick. The Caddy did the same, at about 30 mph he kicked it and as a reaction I did too. He had a little head start but I thought I would just blow by him…WRONG. He didn't pull away but I wasn't really gaining ground either. Some curves came up pretty quickly and we both let up. I pulled in behind him at the next light, too much traffic at that point to continue racing. I looked at the emblems on the back of his car but couldn’t really make out anything I recognized. I saw this emblem on the left side of the trunk. When I got to work I searched Google. It was a Cadillac STS V-series supercharged 4.4L Northstar V8 with 469 HP. Granted it weighs 4200 pounds but 469 HP is 469HP and it sounded very cool.!
slownrusty
You mean "CTS" not "STS"...the STS is still daddy's car. Yasin

S130Z
thats funny because about 1 month ago im driving down the road and i get up next to a caddy goin about 45mph, he looked over at me and then took off like nothing id ever seen before. I saw the model before he got too far and it was an STS. They are sleepers for sure.
deja
According to Cadillac's web site you can get that v-series engine in both STS and in the XLR. XLR only gets 443HP but its faster I guess because it's lighter by 400 pounds. thats funny because about 1 month ago im driving down the road and i get up next to a caddy goin about 45mph, he looked over at me and then took off like nothing id ever seen before. Mikelly
There were several cadillacs at the last Chin Motorsports event. Mostly CTXs and they had LSx motors in them from the factory. Although I wouldn't call them "fast", I'd certainly call them as fast as some modified C5/C6 corvettes, on a road course no less! johnc
A Cadillacd CTS-V won the T2 class at the SCCA Runoffs in 2004. It also had the pole and set the fastest lap beating Nissan 350Zs, Camaro SSs, Neon SRT-4s, Porsche Boxster Ss, and BMW M3s.

deja
I love Top Gear. Don't know when that was filmed but that CTS-V had the LS6, now it has a 4.4 supercharged V8 with 65 more HP. Heres a pretty cool video about those cars http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhQb2wJVPTg

The new CTS-V has a 6.2L supercharged motor, essentially the same as in the ZR-1 but with a smaller blower.
jeffer949
Im totally not a v-8 guru but hasnt the northstar motor only been front wheel drive?? and this has the northstar motor with a rwd tranny apparently.... can we say new option for a Z perhaps??? duder280z
The new CTS-V has a 6.2L supercharged motor, essentially the same as in the ZR-1 but with a smaller blower. Word, and if I remember correctly it's now in the 550hp neighborhood. Damn!
Mikelly
That's because the northstar motor isn't the motor we're discussing in "racing" cadillacs. The CTX is running the LS based motor that is in the same camaro/firebird, Pontiac GTO and all of the Corvettes since 1997! Mike Im totally not a v-8 guru but hasnt the northstar motor only been front wheel drive?? and this has the northstar motor with a rwd tranny apparently.... can we say new option for a Z perhaps??? jeffer949
I know that but Im referring to the motor in the STS-V that was what deja originally went up against. We all know the LS swap is a good swap. But if we can do the northstar swap easily now with the trans in the STS-v why not add that to the doable list
Mikelly
We had a few members here looking at the Northstar motor. Didn't seem to work out! Mike
jeffer949
Thats what i thought. But if i recall correctly it was the tranny that was giving them problems wasnt it? But if they made the STS-V with the northstar motor in a RWD platform it opens up a new motor to us.
m4xwellmurd3r
The LH2 and LC3 are rearwheel drive Northstar engines from the looks of it. the LH2 came out in 04 in the STS, SRX and XLR the LC3 came out in 06 in the XLR-V and STS-V but that's all they came out in it looks like...so that's a TON of money to put one of those in a Z (someone hacked the cadillac V8 wiki...i had to spend about 5 minutes to figure out how to get around the hack so I could undo the revision they made. stupid wiki hackers)
80LS1T
My buddy drives an 05' CTS-V.......what a pile of junk! Its a cool car to look at but GM obviously just threw togther a bunch of random parts they had laying around. Its in the shop again for what will be it's 3rd complete rearend. The V8 shares the same rear end as the V6 model and it shows! The hubs are 6 lug.....yeah try finding wheels for that, that don't cost an arm and a leg! It shares the same key and key fob as a Cavalier. The dash is cheap plastic. Everytime you shift it feels like the tranny is going to fall out. Oh and the navigation screen dings at you every 2 seconds for something...ding....seatbelt.....ding...traction loss......ding.....low tire......ding.....seatbelt........ding....traction control off.....ding! It's very annoying! I feel bad for the people who paid $60,000 for this car! "Lucky" my buddy "only" paid $27,000 for it used. Lets just say the car is for sale after only owning it for 6 months! Oh and when you take it in to the dealership they look at you like "why were you beating on this car"......"it's obviously abuse...". Hmmmm GM puts a 400HP engine in sport sedan, what did they thing you we're going to do in it? Guy
Mikelly
Yea, the boys that were at the last Chin event Pete, Mark and I went to were having all kinds of problems with silly little stuff breaking ON TRACK or in the pits... Lots of power steering fluid boiling, vacuum leaks, belt tensioner issues, and a host of other issues being recorded... Problem is GM doesn't let much of the Cadillac race team "stuff" trickle down to the production cadillacs, and these three guys were grumbling about all the compromises they had to make on these cars... I reminded them that they're driving cadillacs on a road course, and should be marvelling (as the rest of us were) at just how well they were doing.
