S30TRBO
Here is a little taste: As currently planned' date=' the facility will be located on 450 acres in Southern Maryland within forty miles of Washington DC and fifteen miles of the Chesapeake Bay. The planned Tatton Park will feature two road courses, an off-road and rally facility, clubhouse, bike trails and a nature preserve. Tatton Park will offer a limited number of memberships to individuals and corporations and will be available to automobile clubs, and for the holding of national and regional events hosted by organizations including SCCA, NASA, SVRA and CCS Racing. Bill Scott, the owner and operator of Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia will operate the driver education, accident avoidance and security training programs at Tatton Park through BSR, Inc., the recognized leader in vehicle antiterrorist training worldwide. Jens Scott will assist Mark Lindsey, principal of Baskervill, the project’s architects, in designing the specialist facilities required by BSR, Inc. [/quote'] HOLY CRAP!!! http://www.thebaynet.com/news/index.cfm/fa/viewstory/story_ID/12427 This is 20 minutes from me. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out in the end. Mikelly
This is less than two hours from my house... I HOPE they pull it off, as it sounds like they plan another VIR, which would simply be AWESOME!!! Mike
pparaska
I'm not holding my breathe. My guess is that NIMBYism will kill this project if other factors (funding, etc.) don't. Sorry to be so negative. I would love another nice track near me.
Mikelly
What the community, the county and the board of supervisors need to weigh is this: Just from a PCA perspective, A club rolls into town with 50+ Administrative personnel/helpers, and at minimum 200 registered drivers, PLUS their family/friends. This group of 250+ people will need LODGING, FOOD, Entertainment, Parts. This group of 250+ People will roll in with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of transport, and track cars, and will plan to spend at minimum $1000 per "family" on that three day event. LOTS of discretionary income will be available to be spent at the local shops for anything and everything to keep friends/families entertained while that person is on track...I see this at every event I attend! That's one club, for one weekend out of the year. If they want to generate revenue for their community, they'll tell the NIMBYites to pound sand. The fact that the board of supervisors is seeing this as the opportunity it is, says a whole lot. Sales tax revenue to the county for all of the businesses that will be needed to support a track of this size, with the potential they're talking about may well make this deal happen. Times are hard right now and there are many many counties thru out the region that would jump at this chance. Mike

S30TRBO
A little update: http://www.thebaynet.com/news/index.cfm/fa/viewstory/story_ID/12855 Some highlights: 4/15/2009TheBAYNET.com, along with St. Mary’s Department of Economic Development and racing enthusiast Anthony Mason were invited by Crispin Etherington, the developer of the planned Tatton Park here in Southern Maryland to accompany him to a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis to Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point WVA. The purpose of the invitation was for TBN and the others to see first hand what a world class motorsports facility would be like when opened in Southern Maryland. When we arrived, we were in for a treat. Etherington put the group right in the middle of Summit Point’s ‘Track Day’ where all could experience the amazing facility up-close and personal. St. Mary’s County Manager of Business Development, Hans Welch, who was one of the group to witness the spectacle of Summit Motorsports Park first hand stated, “I feel very strongly about this. This will be great for St. Mary’s County and there are many who feel the same.†

Darrel
we have a real nice one in colorado. Designed, built and owned by our local amateur car clubs. No outside investors, it was totally built in house by donations and financing by individual club members. Of which the Z Car Club of Colorado is a part of. This was our first full season and it's a very fun track. I'm sure when the national convention comes our way again this will be the track we will use. http://www.highplainsraceway.com
junglist
According to a link Mikelly posted Bill Scott just passed away I hope this still happens. It will be great to have 3 tracks within driving distance of the DC area.
Mikelly
From what i've read, the Scott Family is doing everything they can to keep the track booked solid. They're even talking to people about using the new kart track to run SuperMoto racing. As for the new track in Southern Md. Great... More the merrier. Also, the guys down in Dimwittie Motorsport Park just got approved for building a roadcourse on the grounds there, which is great, as it is 90 minutes from my house, and then there's another setup in North Carolina NCCAR at Roanoke Rapids... That'll reasonably close as well! Mike
randy 77zt
a local business man tried to get the crappy county i live (stanislaus county california)to ok a motorsports park on the east side of the county away from populated areas.even though modesto was voted to be a miserable place and we currently have %18 unemployment.so good luck-maybe east coast doesnt have as many granola munchers as cali
