  1. It seems the price for a crate motor is somewhere between 10k and 15k as far as I heard. That is supposedly complete, supercharger and all. Nitrous Pete has a quick car, but Jim D'Amore's is more impressive IMO. He took a vert with supposedly less power and the six speed, and almost went as quick as Pete. The vert is couple hundred pounds heavier to boot. There is a better option than the Cobra motor too. It's the 5.0L cammer motor that Ford is supposedly selling. Its cheaper than the Cobra motor by quite a bit, and it's all aluminum. You can also have the option of getting the 26 or 27 spline input shaft instead of the 10 spline that comes on the Cobra, because you're going to have to buy an aftermarket clutch and a tranny anyways. If I remember correctly, the 5.0 cammer is putting out over 400Hp directly from Ford for quite a bit less. If you look hard, you may find some really strong 01 Cobra motors that have worked over. I'll see if I can find the websites.
  2. I've heard a few of the engines let go from oil starvation problems. I'm sure its nothing more than on Accusump oil accumulator couldn't take care of. Plus, you can oil your motor before you start it for a lot less wear.
  3. I can go measure ours tonight to see how wide the thing is. We put on the Densecharger intake and it's been dyno proven from 22 to 25 RWHP. You can tell a difference. If you want some real power, I'd look at a Kenne Bell supercharger. Can anyone say 600HP with everything else stock? If was going to do a Ford cammer motor, I'd be much more interested in the 5.0 cammer crate motor Ford is supposed to sell. It has the aluminum block, so it's much lighter than that iron monstrosity we have sitting if front of our dashboard. It sure is strong though. Oh...Just to let you guys know, some guy made it in to the 9s with AC, almost full interior, an automatic tranny swap, and the stock rear end. That's an IRS rear end holdin' up to the power.
  4. Alas, we have discovered a single will spool up faster, but you forget the the coolest part of it all. You can say you have a "twin turbo V8." I'm still wondering about the twin vs. single. What if you were to use an equalizer pipe between the two turbos? Would that help anything at all, or just be counter productive?
  5. If you've ever seen a dyno graph, just look at the area under the hp and torque curves of different motors. The 5.7 may only make 300HP, but the area under the curve is much greater than that of the S2000 motor. This is especially true for the torque curves. The 4 banger can be considered to have one advantage over the bigger motor (not including efficiency and all that) is that it can run much higher, lengthening gears out. I guess that's important in road racing, but not much so on the street.
  6. I want to say they have this bad boy in the CTS already, but I may be wrong. I'll look into it a little more. Imagine a turbo on in an older Z. Ultralight and ultra quick.
  7. I used Hammerite to stop rust in areas that were going to be cut out later. I tried to sand some of that stuff down one time and it's really, really tough. Great stuff and not that expensive.
  8. Yeah, http://www.chrfab.com makes a bellhousing to mate up the T56.
  9. I place my front jack stands under the reinforced points on the frame rails. The rears are a little more difficult. There is something around the rear differential that may work.
  10. Aren't those starters buried in the block or something? I can't remember, but I know they were tough to get to if I recall.
  11. Are you guys going to Le Mans or Speedring. Did anyone make any reservations or anything. Well, keep me updated, because when there's karting, I'm there.
  12. That's a suicide waiting to happen when you go that fast. I hope the kid pulls through. I can't believe all those guys are wishing he was dead. That's hard for me to fathom that anyone would wish a person in a car accident dead other than maybe a drunk driver. Well, I guess some people have no compassion anymore. Well, it's too bad that a nice car like that had to go that way.
  13. Oh, and that bull dozer, as I understand it, was an American made bull dozer. To say that it was bought with US tax dollars though, is a little presumptious, and I apologize. You are right, we do give a ton of money to Egypt, which is one of the more corrupt governments in the middle east. The middle east is one of the most complicated subjects in international relations, and will probably plague academics for years to come.
  14. I was never trying to put Pvt. Lynch at fault for anything. I was more trying to say that her being stuck in the middle of this is extremely unfortunate. To say that the world is only governed by captilism would be ignorant. I apologize for what that comment appeared to be. I rather meant that the world we live in is ruled by world captilism more often than not. More of the situations on the international level involve captilistic ideals than otherwise. I didn't mean that as the sole theory to cling to. I was not trying to "glamorize" Rachel's story either. I was merely trying to point out the control our media exhibits over US ideals. I, for one, never knew of Rachel's story, because our media never mentioned a word of it. From what I've read, Rachel did some very heroic things for an oppressed people (by the Isreal government or other Arabs, it doesn't matter). We never saw a word of it, because what she was doing what against our government's agenda. When you talk about free will and such, I have to cringe a little bit. Tell that to some of the people in Africa, or even the Palistinians and they will probably laugh. We can say this, because we have the luxury of freedoms that many will never know. We imagine these people being able to just fight another day, just a little harder, because that is the American way. Unfortunately, I take a much more pessimistic approach to this. Many will try their whole lives to escape, to be free, or even just to feed themselves, yet they will never fully realize that. That's just the reality of life. Make what you will of this, but I'm beginning to read some things that will sure destroy any notions everyone having free will. I do want to clarify why I criticize my country so much. I love the United States for all it has given me, and I want it to be everything it can. That requires taking critical views -from all sides, pro or against- and weighing out what you think is right. Unfortunately, many times I don't get to see the damning side of things many times. As a result, I cannot make a proper decision, by voting, for which direction I want my country in terms of leaders, laws, etc...
  15. Want to read what Rachel Corrie had to say rather than listen to glamorized media, check this out: http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,916299,00.html
  16. Oh yah, if you get a chance I'd take a trip by the new ball park in Frisco. Maybe, if you time it right, you'll see a game. There's an area that you can watch the game from outside the park. You probably know all this stuff, but just thought I'd make sure.
  17. I'd be more weary of China than USE. We sell all of our technologies to China. Anywho, I'm not asking for you to sit back and do nothing, nor do I believe that all of our leaders are self-serving and evil. I believe they take advantage of situations that have poor effects on our nation. From what I've found, its not that people hate us, but rather they very much dislike the US government. In the many cases that I've seen, its been our country's dealings with theirs that causes problems. I think we should be looking more to the root of terrorism instead of just irradicating anyone "possibly" involved. As for pre-emptive aggresion versus defense, I disagree. The spirit upon which our country was founded (basically the Constitution) is definitely against any pre-emptive decisions. Assuming someone's guilty without ample proof does little to nothing. I do aplaud our administration for making some attempt (some what half-heartedly) at trying to prove a case against Iraq. Clinton and many before him would have just bombed the crap out of them, no questions asked. John, I see you are very much a realist. Who's going to be the next big nation trying to take number 1 away, right? I believe that world operates more as a captilistic system than a struggle for power (My International Relations class is paying off). Different countries can operate on capitilism, socialism, etc..., but the world as a whole runs on capitilism. The people on top are just out to make a some money. Hopefully that clears up a little more where I'm coming from with all this.
  18. I believe 9/11 was more of a mindless reaction than any thoughtful attempt to find those responsible (that's hard too, because most of them blew themselves up with the planes). Probably close to 4000 civilians died in Afghan because of our military efforts. What does our country have to show for it? Not much that I know of. Where one Saddam leaves another will take his place. I also want to remind everyone that it was our country who helped Saddam come to power and supplied him with many of those WMD for many years. We also trained Osama Bin Laden and helped the Taliban into power. It's a wonder why we have so many problems in the world. For those of you that don't know, if you follow the money that helped to pay for the 9/11 attacks, you'll probably find it came through Saudi Arabia. A lot of that money probably came from our tax dollars, since we give them a lot of funds. I guess my point that I'm trying to get across is that many times the U.S. has placed many of these situations upon itself. We should have done something the minute Saddam used weapons on his own people. Unfortunately, it's my belief that our leaders will do anything unless it suits their personal agenda or pocketbook, not necesarily for the good of the country. How does the relate back to the Lynch story? That's a tough one, but I think it has more to do with our service men and women of the U.S. being put in situations they should have never been put in, in the first place. I love this country too much to let leaders use people's lives for personal gain. Instead of leaving at there, making me sound like an a**h***, I also want to say that I very much appreciate those that work hard for this wonderful country and give 100% every day.
  19. For some reason I thought he was doing more than just blowing into the pipes. It's pretty dang cool that he can get it that loud.
  20. Yeah, it's those videos. It seems pretty cool, I just don't understand it. I wanted to get a closer look to see if he is blowing into the PVC or what.
  21. What the heck is going on with that PVC pipe in the hardware store. Not quite sure. Maybe because I really don't know what conduit is. Guess I better go look it up. Whatever is going on, it sure sounds loud.
  22. If you manage to stay outside of Frisco, you may want to check out my town, Pleasant Hill. We have two brand new hotels right off the freeway, and we are less than 30 miles east of S.F. If you get a chance, I've heard Fish Ranch Road at night (use this road instead of the Caldecott tunnel into Oakland) is extremely beautiful. Anyways, just a thought.
  23. You guys have some stories. I almost poked my eye out twice two nights ago when I was putting a new clutch quadrant on the Cobra. I dropped the needle nose pliers on my face twice. Each time was less than an inch from my eye. Lucky I only have two small holes in my face instead of a hole in my eye.
  24. I've heard of those, but have always had a hard time finding a copy around here. I look to the BBC to be far more honest than any of our news stories here. Remember, Bush's cousin runs FOX, an many others are also on the same agenda. As far as the Lynch story goes, I remember reading that they knew there was no one left in the building. They knew there was not going to be any opposition what so ever. As far as using over-whelming force, I agree, but it should only be used in defense of our country. I've yet to see any weapons of "mass destruction" undercovered in Iraq. That makes this Lynch thing all the more suspicious, because our government needed a feel good story to divert American attention from the fact that this whole "war" has been on a lie. Don't get me wrong, I fully believe in supporting our troops 110%, but only in defense of our country; not to feed the pocket books of our leaders.
  25. We also had something happen to our Cobra/Mustang. The first night we didn't cover it some jerk wad decided they wanted to hit the roof with an egg. It went through the clear coat and now we have a nice white mark on the top of our paint. I know how you feel. Speaking of stealing, some dumb s*** stole our tip jar, again, at work. It was full too. There was probably $30 to $40 in that one. Stealing is bad.
