  1. Everything ran okay, not great but not horrible either the day of purchase last year August-ish. This is my problem, you've been running the car since then? Me thinks problem with communication. Even an old cam in an engine with 100k will take some time to rust. Let alone outside an engine, at least around here. Gut says engine may be ok, however, you need to do due dilligence. #@!$ you murphy Once again, bad idea.
  2. Get some flat stock steel or aluminum drill holes and longer bolts....
  3. Rusty cam on a engine that was running, oh boy. Take it in and ask for a cost. Tell them everything. Good to know your compression was good. (even though it is not a tell all) How much water, milky stuff was in your oil? Hard to believe that just that gasket could let in that much water. Might be wishfull thinking. On the cam, how much ware is their on the wipe, vs, the non wiped area. From the pictures it looks like little to none. If you main problem is a simple fix, When you fill her up with oil I would run it for a while in driveway with seafoam, then drain oil. Replace with roaly purple synthetic. Use napa gold filter on frist oil change and then second. Kinda pricey but you got to get everything you can out of that engine quickly. No matter what, you have to at least pull the head in my view to determind as much as you can. Murphy gots you by the balls, be careful.
  4. Good luck man, I HATE thiefs! Cowards they are! In spokane, I'll keep my eyes peeled.
  5. Humm, 1928 avg wage 6000. 2009 avg wage 30000. So in 1928 I would make appox 16 bucks a day. That would take me 2 days work to have my engine and tranny, overhauled. So today, you will be will to that for me for 164 bucks!!! Sir I will be so willing to pay that if you are willing to just do my ZX engine! Let me know;) I'm pro capitalist so don't miss understand me. Peace
  6. After more searching it is interesting how little zxt to zx is known. May you provide me with the link that you found? At this point I,m not so inclined to take my zx apart yet since my wife DD it. Besides I need to do a lot of rr to the parts I gotten.
  7. Some non turbo shafts are u-joint type. These will not interchange with CV type shafts without also changing the companion flanges. All ZX axles are 25 spline and companion flanges will interchange. I don't know if the 240 axles are the same 25 spilne as the ZX's. Found this here: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?/topic/46112-zxt-halfshafts/page__p__394116__hl__zx%20cv%20shafts%20swap__fromsearch__1entry394116 Also NA ZX 83 I where this is going into.
  8. Congrats. Good luck on the car!
  9. Sorry to hear about your Grandfather, if others need you try to be there for them. My view on death is (at least of older fellows) is different then most. I see it as someone hitting the jackpot, or going off to disneyland! Glad to hear he went fast, peacefully? When I go I want a Wake. It is ok not to take death as hard as others, so don't feel guilty just use that strenth for those who need it, peace.
  10. Well you got me, however, all of the information on the diff came from an hour of searching. Strange I had a conversation with someone, and they suggested that they are the same. So I will look, thankyou for the heads up Jeffer949, little turd.....
  11. Thanks guys. So far it is coming along as smoothly as it could... Ummm are you familiar with Murphy?
  12. I've ditched that system. Cap and or remove.
  13. Any experience for 82' 280zx intake manifold? Darn EGR is givin me problems. A metal hose running from the bottom of the EGR valve/intake mani to the exhaust mani. Cant get that darn thing loose to take off. Using PB Blaster as of now, its not doing too much. I just want to cut that metal hose off. I posted it in the thread.

  14. To get to the top center bolt I carfully break away some aluminum. I take the heat shield off first. Many have done it so can you. Wedge chain!
  15. As just a guess, heat is causing the fluids to get thinner, coupled with larger amount of higher hp is causing the diff to expell excess fluids. Just guessing. Essential a wet fart.
  16. Ooooo, I forgot my wife wanted to add her Knitting stuff, somehow seems fitting considering how much respect I had for my Grandmother. Funny thing is she is a noob, I do feel sorry for my children....
  17. Then it will hurt even more if I add this: or this: Yep that's right..... Air shocks, my Mother use to haul a trailer, appox 4k pd, and two horses, approx 2400 pds she even has the stablizer bars. I need to post a pic, but the seats in the trunk are cool. Anyhoooo, not really trying to sell here, however, its, Tony.... and he is off on assinment....I miss my spell check. Besides
  18. Did some searching and came to the conclution that this diff with cv shafts out of a 81 turbo zx is the one I want for now. Yep, want the 3.54 for better cruising out on the highway, esp with higher speed limits. (39.11 is the 3.54) Wanted the r200 as well for versitily and strength. And last, cv shafts and compainion flange for placement in 83 NA ZX. (CV shafts will be rebuilt per sticky, also cv's are more effecient and stronger then my U joint half shafts.) So here is a question, do I need the stub axles, my guess is no.
  19. Cherp cherp....... Why do birds, suddenly appear, anytime,,, you are near.... just like me, they long to be, close to yoooouu. Cherp cherp......
  20. More along the lines of it's "if not in the rule book its not a rule" there is no interpretation of the rule book, there is what is written and what is not. So that is why their are warnings that are nuts, like cruise control on RV's. And others. I do see your point, however, dealing with contract of absurd sizes is also a product of this. I do understand being unique about rules as needed, remember mercedies and their push rod engine years back, now that was ingenius and well within the rules. Oh and BTW Hoov, I do like you, I find your comments clever and well thought out, so my comments are ment to shine some light, not castigate.
  21. Drain oil, drain rad, (keep an eye on color/content of fluids). Put a post it on dash to remember to refill. The engine is young, may want to replace/refresh typical stuff on a head rebuild anyhow. The bolts are doable getting the intake/exhaust off. Have a beer and have fun! WEDGE for timing chain! Mark all timing positions with cyl #1 at TDC
  22. If you get away with something, is it then ok?
  23. So engine was unknown to you before this point? The fluids were already in it? How many miles, is the engine stock? Compression test?
  24. Well their see is in all her beauty! Tranny was rebuilt about 10k ago, electronic ignition was put in 5k ago and the bearings in the rear were replaced about 2k ago. About the same time I replaced the carb, intake and water pump. This was years ago, however, it never got driven. To bad my mother used to hull horses with the car with the original 2 barrel and I really wanted to know how much different the car did. Oh well. This car for some reason dose not leak oil, even with a 173k. Sure it was taken care of, but.... I think it uses a quart of oil every 3k. My grandmother drove at 80mph with kids in the car, then avg. 90 by here self, she was a neat lady! She scratch up the car leaving the driveway the last time she drove it. Insisted that it be fixed, so they only did a moderate job.
