  1. Look at what size the ring bolts are. They could be 12mm or 10mm. It is a small thing next to getting a LSD for a R200. Good luck Don
  2. Welcome to the dark side. It can be easily done. Don
  3. I think you need to tell what else in the motor and what rpm your intented plans are. Fun, strip autox. Don
  4. If I remember correctly the diff I pulled the viscus carrier out of had a 4.08 ratio. I do know that it was a na Z32. So if that was the case you should not have a problem with a 3.7 or 3.9. The viscus LSD's don't cost much in the junk yards but you will need the get the side stubs for the carrier. Don
  5. First, I have not run my my Z yet with the viscus LSD yet but I will use the stubs from the Z32. Modified to run the stock Ujoints as an experiment, I have 280t CV's for when I put in the big motor. Ratio is 3.54 and I did not use spacers it is just siting there with the ring gear pressed onto the carrier and a couple of 10mm bolts holding it. I would never run it this way as I will make some sleeves. Second, I don't know what the ratios were. He just found a Z32 in the JY and pulled the diff for the conversion. He found that there is not a (in his knowlege) car in the USA that has side stubs that will fit the helical carrier. He tried (from what I remember) 240sx, 280z, R230, R200 viscus and others. Third, I have only heard of two sizes of bolts on a R200. Maybe it is 12 at the threads and 13 on the shoulder? Was Doug talking about a R230? Dmyntti The seller might have been thinking about the bolt sizes as the reason it wouldn't work. When I bought my new nismo clutch lsd I talked to nissan motorsports and MSA to find out which was which and which was better and they (12mm and 10mm) said there was not any diffrence other than bolt size. They had not heard of any problems with the 10mm bolts. Hope this helps Don
  6. What I have found out with nissan carriers is for the R200 (short or long nose) is all the carriers is they seem to be the same size. I have put a viscus carrer (91 z32) into my long nose R200 and it seems to have the same gear mesh and backlash as the stock one did. My friend bought a helical carrier (and side stubs) off ebay from Japan. Then he and I put it in a Z32 housing and put it in his 240SX. It's backlash and mesh seemed fine and it has worked great as a daily driver and a weekend autoxr. I know I have limited experience in this but if you can take one from a Z32 and put it in an older housing (with spacers). Then swap the short nose around without changing anything I think they are about the same size. I know I will be told I am wrong but it worked. Don
  7. Thanks for the link. It will answer a couple questions I have had about what is legal to do to my car. Don
  8. Stock 302 and part of a built 351 are in my garage right now sitting next to the Z. Frame rails done and a 10pt roll bar is done, but money has dried up for now so I 'll try to work on the this that won't cost anything. As soon as I can figure what those are. Don
  9. What did you do to get that 8.8 in? How is it mounted and do you have any pics? Don
  10. Yes I think MS sucks also. They just would buy up company that had a good software product and make it disappear. I have forgotten more about dos than I have learned about windows. Thanks Dan for the link, I have some reading to do. Don
  11. When I was grinding on rotissery(sp?) I saw the same type of flickering light in front of me. I now use the shirt to cover up hood hinges so they don't catch people wakling to the freezer. Oh I ahd burned a nice four inch hole in it. Don
  12. When the truck hit me it was with enough force for my helmet to shatter the windshield all the way across. I broke a couple of blood vessels on the right side of my brain and broke my coller bone. Well I crashed after that on the race track (at almost 100mph) and ground a fair amout of fiberglass off my race helmet, just think what my head would look like after that without a helmet. Three years after the wreck with the drunk driver in the truck, I won 10 out of 12 motorcycle roadraces that year in the class I was racing in. I am all better now but my friend still isn't. Don
  13. This hits home. I was hit by a drunk driver in 85. She ran a red light and hit my front axle with the left corner of her front bumper. That put me over the fender and hood just in time for my head (with a SNELL rated helmet) to meet her windsheld, it was figured she was doing 55-60 mph. Put me in a coma for ten days and summer learning how to walk and think again. Two years later my friend had a car pull out in front of him, he had got the bike slowed down to about ten before losing it and hitting his head on the ground. He didn't have any med insurance so guess what? The state paid for his operations and hospital stay (he was in a coma for nine months) and is picking up the bill for his nursing home bill for the rest of his life. That happened in 1987 and he is still there. As you can see I kind of have feelings about this. If you don't want to wear a helmet I think you should prove that you can PAY for what happens and not make everyone else pay. Oh and thats not even saying anything about the pain my family and friends went through. Don
  14. This has been asked before, do a search and you should find it. I just turned 44 Don
  15. Try looking into a 351 windsor. I am pretty sure it would be a easer swap using factory parts and it's not a bad engine. Don
  16. A Sharpe cobalt HVLP or a DeVilbiss finishline 3 for todays paint. They are about the same price and I was wondering if there is a diffrence in quality for base and clear coats with the correct tip size. Thanks Don
  17. I also miss Lone but I haven't seen him post in a long time. I was looking for a story he wrote about taking his wifes friend for a ride in his Z but couldn't find it (thought it was funny). Hope all is well with him and maybe he just changed lifestyles and just posts on a HD board. Don
  18. Yes Happy holidays to everyone. This is my December on the 4th the winds blew off a lot of my roof and about 140' of fence. Then some dumb lady in a jeep wagoneer was picking up something off the floor in front of her 15 year girl didn't see us slow down and rear ended me and totaled my truck. Why didn't the girl pick it up? Well the girl ended up braking the windshield with her head but she seemed ok but got a trip to the hospital to check her out. Tomorrow I am picking up my 04 toyota tacoma 4 door prerunner (I have two little girls that are growing up too fast hence 4 doors) to replace my 96 tacoma with 170K (I was going to replace it after well over 300K). I am getting my roof replaced tomorrow also so it will be busy day. Hope the rest of my December is better everyone else's is great. Don
  19. Try searching and you get an answer. Yes the R200 could easly handle that much power. Don
  20. That was my 500th post. Wow Don
  21. Pete while watching and eating the loops will you be going back in time? Don
  22. Mine has been on jackstands for four years now except for the time it has been able to roll over with a easy turn of the hand. At the time I was able roll it over it was on stands but they were not jackstands. Don
