  1. I am putting the VLSD side stubs on a lathe to cut and shape them, then welding a plate on that is drilled and will take the studs so it will look just like the side stubs that comes on old R200's (I hope). This will also be a viscous unit put in a old style housing. That is why I say it would be a bolt in. I haven't made it yet but the carrier is sitting in the housing right now and I was wondering if I should make it, and more than one. Don
  2. Would anyone want one? I am toying with the idea of putting one together but I am wondering if anyone would want me to make it. Would they sell? Don
  3. That looks like a two stroke shaft drive bike. I don't think I remember any like that. Does look strange. I thought CBX's look like they were all motor but that takes the cake. Don
  4. Could I also get some pics? I will be putting a 302 in for testing then a 351 when the car is sorted out. Also how loud are the side pipe Z's? Thanks DP650rdi@comcast.net Don A new address so I had to edit it to get it right.
  5. The 351 should fit the same as the 302 as it just has a little taller cylinders. So the motor is just a little taller and wider. From what I measured the aod is about the same length as a T5 with a bell housing. Don
  6. I don't have my car running yet but I have test fit my aod in and it does fit depending on how far you put the motor back. My motor is back to the firewall, oilpan behind the crossmember and I had to grind the ears off the bell housing for more clearance. No you don't need a computer with that tranny but it does use a TV cable. Don
  7. Wow, I have never been to zcar.com, I found hybridz first. Thank God! Don
  8. Yes weight concerns. With a 302 and aluminun heads you will need to add weight to the front end to keep it the same. Do a search under engine weight and I'm sure you will get a lot of info. Don
  9. Yes you can slowly turn it but it is hard. That is the viscous clutch slipping. Don
  10. So far mine has been a year for sub frames and the roll bar. Pretty close to done with this stage and will be putting things together soon(I hope). Don
  11. [Can I punch you in the nose for talking about Pontiac in a Ford Board?] Why did you say that? I support anybody that does not want a chevy. There is not a pontiac area on the board so he did right by not putting it in the chevy area. Don Most people do deserve better than having a chev.
  12. The carrier for a Z32 will fit into a old style housing with the exception as noted for the ring bolts. You will need the side stubs for it out of the Z32 because it is a viscous LSD and they are diffrent. The trick will to hook up the half shafts Ujoint or CV you will be on your own. You will not be able to use the ring and pinion out of it to refit a old style housing as the pinion gear shaft is a diffent length (shorter). Hope this helps Don
  13. I with BayareaZT I want to see it. Don
  14. It's been done before, a couple of times by people on this board. Try doing a search for pontiac engines. I built a RAlll in a 65 GTO and liked it a lot. Having fun, that's what all this is about. Don
  15. Easy as a chev but better. Go read the ford section for info. Don
  16. Gran prix or La mans old films but good.
  17. Then yes but I think it would be easer to swap the LSD carrier into the diff that has a gear set you want. I have heard that changing the pinion gear is a royal P.T.A. I have found (in my limited experience) the carriers from R200 old and new are the same size with the exception of the ring gear bolts and diffrent side stubs (LSD-VLDS-helical (japanese syliva?)). I have tried these and they all seem to bolt in with exceptions. Don
  18. Is it the old style R200 or the new style that came in Z32's infinty's, 240sx, skyline.... The new ones are shorter so you couldn't use the pinion gear and if you can't use one gear it shouldn't be done as you are replaced in sets. Don
  19. I used a blow torch and a hand held grinder to grind a groove in the sleeve. The same as a hacksaw but easer and faster. Don
  20. I would like some and some more info on the caliper mounting for this setup on a early 71. I can source rotors and calipers myself if I know the mounting of them or what model they are for. I have not thought about the front brakes yet as I am not that far along with my Z yet but this seems a good deal if the mounts are not too much. What happens if we pay but not enough people do it? Does our money get refunded? Don
  21. Sounds like you will need to drain the engine oil and change the filter because it has water in it. When you do, watch the oil comming out of the pan because if there is a lot of water in it the water will come out first to give you an idea of the amount. Do you know the history of the engine and how it got in this condition, it might help in trying to figure out what happened. Don
  22. Try checking the plugs, if they are wet it is because the fuel is old. Try draining the carb to get some fresh gas up from the tank. If the tank has old gas in it you will have to drain it then get fresh gas in it. Pull the plugs to dry out the cylinders then replace them with new plugs. To do it cheaper you could also try mixing in fresh gas in with the old and cleaning the plugs but you would get better results with the first way. Good luck. Don
  23. I have never heard of a clutch lsd being put in a 90 or newer car. I would bet it is a VLSD. Do search for "VLSD" and do some reading. The links that come up should answer your questions. Don
