DOH! Broke my tranny last night.
Dp351zcar replied to HICKL's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I just bought a 2.95 gear kit for my T5 a W/C SVO(turbo 4cyl ford) box from Hanlon motorsports. The 2.95 kit has the upgradded gears for the T5. They are very good people to work with and get stuff out fast. They also have the Gforce stuff to sell so you don't have to deal with Gforce yourself. I just checked and Gforce has their T5 web site up with prices and all. I had a question that his wife (daytime order taker) could not answer and Bob Hanlon called me at home at 7:30pm my time(3 hours earlier than his) to answer it. We talked for 20 mins and he was not hurried or rushed even though he still had a T45 to tear apart. Don -

Dp351zcar replied to poortecher's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Just about any and every question has been answered on this board. Use the search button and type somthing in and read. Don -
I need one of those in my civic. It might surprise those raised Ego boosting 4x4's that think they own the road. Then again it might stall my engine for making power for that much sound, mabe that is why they put such a weak horn on it. Could it be all it could power? Don

3x was ok I thought but I would say this. Has anybody seen and liked the short run of shows called Firefly. It took a couple of the shows to hook me but I think that they are good shows. Take a look a at the ambassador(hooker) in that show. WoW Don

5.0L rear sump for cross member clearance
Dp351zcar replied to s3079893's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
The ford 302 front sump fits behind the front crossmember, things are tight but it fits. I will be using a front motor plate on top of rubber mounts with my car. -
To do it right, like it is in your mind it will be a long project. One thing leads to another, then it's gota do this then if I do this I will need to to that, and it goes on and on. Or thats what I feel. Don

Opps, I should have edited the post about the CF/DF after I searched for centerforce here on hybridz. Thank you guys. I called summit and talked to one of their techs and he said as long as I don't run slicks than the FoMoCo king cobra or the Ram premiumHD set would be fine. Or the would be as strong as the tranny so I guess that's ok or at least a start. I got the Ram, so I guess I will use it as starting base and go from there. This whole car has been more of a challange than I thought it would be, with work, wife and kids and all, but it's getting there. Don

Thanks guys. I bought the Fidanza 13.5lb flywheel because the Ford motorsport one turned out to be a zero blance one and I couldn't use it. The 351 has a massive crank assembly and the Romac balancer isn't a light weight either so I think I'll have enough mass to rotate the engine. Now I just need to decide on a clutch. I think I will go with a centerforce duel friction unit or do you think it's overkill? Don

I found that I could get the Findanza 157t flywheels for $285 on ebay and the other ones (Hays and Ram) were close to $400 everywhere I looked and 164 teeth for and 11". Fidanza is a name I have heard, and have heard they make good products unlike the $200 noname ones on ebay. The Ford motorsport one is about $235 at summit and I am leaning towards it as it's 25lb one as it is an 11" which I can find more clutchs for. I just don't know, I know I'm making this harder than it is. Don

I searched and could not satisfy my self (am I sick thinking that and looking there) that my question was answered there. I am building a 351. Intake is a Victor JR The heads are canfield 192's with 2.02 valves that have a curve that flows very close to AFR's CNC 194(?). Compression is 10.5/1 Cam is starting off at a Comp Cams XE284 flat tappet. The trans will be a T5 for as long as it lasts. The car is a 71 240 I am hopping for 425hp as a starting point and it will be used on the street with open track days as a goal. The "street" will be used to get to the track. What I am toying with is a Fidanza 13lb aluminum flywheel 157 tooth that takes a 10.5" clutch Or A Ford Motorsports 25lb 157 tooth that takes a 11" clutch. Both are SFI rated and the clutch will add about 13lbs. Decisions, Decisions Thanks Don

Rear Suspension Clarifications
Dp351zcar replied to rudypoochris's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
What is a CLSD. A new term for a clutch LSD a opposed to a VLSD? -
I just got one of those motor plates and it threw me for a loop, and the guys at summit couldn't help me, or at least not until a day or two went by. It was this. The motor plate does not go between the block and the timing cover. It goes between the water pump and the timing cover. Needless to say the instructions left a couple of things out. Mine is is sitting on the motor mounts turned upside down on the frame rails, hopefully it will be better than soild mounting it. Haven't run the engine or car yet so time will tell if it's any good. I got summit shortie headers and they fit ok when the left is on the right. They are patriot headers and match my canfield heads great. I did have to bend one to clear the steering shaft. I found that using the motor plate I can have my engine sitting behind the cross member and I can use my spin-on oil filter with out hitting the steering shaft. Well so far so good. In a couple of weeks I will know more. Good luck on yours and let us know how it goes. Don

Is there one?

I have a 02 civic EX and my worst MPG was 34.5 and my best so far is 39.7. My goal is getting over 40 but so far I haven't been able to get there yet as I think I drive it kinda hard. Don

That was not what I like to do on a track but was kinda cool. What is really cool is the video of the Saleen S7. That thing sounds so good just sitting there. Wonder if it goes? Don At home today with a sick 7 year old.

My 71 did that and I jacked one rear tire off the ground and I turned one rear wheel and found my clunk was the connection between the inner and outer stub shafts. Sorry on the correct names as my mind just went blank, the wife said dinner is ready and I am starved. Anyway with my half shaft not moving I could move the wheel a little each way. The movement came between the companion flange splines and the stub shaft splines. Don

Breathing new life into a very old qustion. Just thought I would bring this back up as I have had a answer yet. Don

Yes the car is cool but I would like to see more of Heather. I mean WoW I hardly noticed the bike in the pic's. Don

OK here it goes. For a 71 240 The MSA weather strip kit is $250 plus a few additional parts. The Precision kit is $409 and there is not a discription for what you get and there also are not additional parts listed. So does the MSA kit plus the additional parts equal the Precision kit? Yes I know I was dumb by stripping everything off the car a couple of years ago and not saving any knowledge of what it takes but isn't that what a kit is for? It's just I want a complete kit Thanks for any help you can give me. Money it tight and my time tighter so I want the biggest bang for my buck. So in that do I sound any diffrent from anyone else Don

I have seats in the front row of the stands looking right out at the first turn and I'll be renewing them tonight or tomorrow. I can see the problem from all sides and haven't figured out who's at fault yet. Michelin is the one really at fault for not having a tire that would stand up to it. All though you do have to respect the size of their kahoonies(sp?) for admiting it and telling everybody they had an inferior product. I fully belive when they came over to race they thought they had a good tire. I understand that they could not replicate the problem until early sunday morning, then when they could replicate the conditions they found that their backup tire had the same problems. I have had those seats from the start of F1 at Indy (ok I know, starting in 2000) and I will keep them as long as I can. No I didn't go this year, I sold them and I'm kinda glad. Just my thoughts. I really doubt this would happen again. Don

Where are you located. If you are close to someone on this board who knows how they might be willing to help. It is much cheaper than that to put one together yourself depending on what you want. I have connections here but odds are you are not around here. Don
-
I have set with the up graded bolts and they are still in the box they came in. I was thinking of selling them as I don't think I will finish my car because life has gotten in the way. Don

The rear end is a R200 very much like the ones in Z32's. The carrier can be taken out and swaped for the R200 carrier in a 280Z but the side stubs need to be changed too. The side stubs are a diffrent in a S14 so it would be hard to make them match the 240SX CV joints. Don

Datsunlover it sounds like you might have a viscous LDS in there and not a clutch unit. Don
