  1. You want motivation? Join the military. You want to finish your car? Remember what you want out of it and imagine your end product. If you can keep your eye on the goal and still not find the motivation to finish then you just don't love the project like you thought you would.
  2. Ok lets try this. Tell us what's wrong and together we can determine what might be causing it. No compression is a really really bad thing.
  3. Sounds like you missed the connection under the console. Aside from that it should work. If you pulled your console at some point during the swap you probably just forgot to reconnect the plugs for the controls under it.
  4. Wire keepers would help. You should be able to find them at any auto parts store.
  5. I was half expecting to see a 350Z under a crusher....Oh well.
  6. No clue on the pressure bottle oil thing.. As for new parts, search the archives for cam manufacturers and regrinders. You can get new lash pads and rockers from MSA (thezstore.com).
  7. Is that a confession to killing a possibly endangered species?
  8. Now who will Willey Coyote chase?
  9. Your vacuum sounds fine. The fall off at night is probably due to engine load with all the lights on. Keep an eye on that alt though, sounds like it might be (going) dead.
  10. It won't hold compression? And how did you make that determination?
  11. It's a two wire TVS. The car runs, I've been driving it everyday this week. It's not a turbo, it just has the turbo ECU, wiring harness and the majority of the electronics. The only NA electronics in it are the injectors and AFM. From scrubbing over the car everything appears stock, it just doesn't fit the typical combinations we seen in the US.
  12. Sounds like a fun little rev happy L6. I thought about that setup one time, but I don't have an L24 crank to try it with.
  13. The AFM and injectors are NA. I think swapping the whole wiring harness, brackets, electronics would be a bit much. Anyone know where I can get a cheap knock sensor? Those things are massively expensive.
  14. Yes you can use the 280ZX electronic dizzy without changing the whole car and yes you can ditch the ballast resistor so long as you swap the coil out. Looks like you know what you're doing, have fun with it.
  15. Very true. We might make fun of the movie, but it is entertaining to watch and it's about time they got a real Japanese sports car in there.
  16. I thought I'd start a new thread to discuss this. My 82 Fairlady 280Z has a F54 block, Flat top pistons with a P90 head, NA Exhaust manifold, NA injectors and NA AFM. All the electronics on the engine are the turbo model ECCS system. It has the optical dizzy, ECCS ECU, VCM, AAC, 2 pin TVS, etc... Is this common for a JDM car or has someone done a lot of work on this for no real reason? There's no boost gauge in the dash, and nothing else on the car to indicate a turbo aside from the electronics. I'm no expert in the ECCS system and the car has a hesitation when you make throttle movements (i.e. Step on the gas from a stop it stutters, step on the gas while cruising it stutters...etc...). Any ideas on any of this?
  17. So long as you tweak the AFM and tune things right it should run extremely well and show a decent improvement over stock. For that lift you should get the springs and of course you'll need the proper lash pads.
  18. You're either getting too much fuel, too little spark or too little air. My 77 had a similar problem when I bought it. Turned out the return line was rusted shut and the fuel pressure was through the roof. Check everything.
  19. Ok ECCS electronics (Turbo), F54 block, P90 head, NA Intake, injectors and Exhaust manifold + Plumbing and Flat Top pistons....Anyone else confused by this engine?
  20. That's a sad state for an Opel, but at least it's not a Z!
  21. Ok lights are fixed! Turned out to be dirty contacts in the switch.
  22. Yes I was just outside putting some NGK Copper cores in it because the Bosch Platinums the PO put in it were shot (of course). The engine really intrigues me now. It's a P90/F54 with optical dist, but NA everything else. Idle runs high, but I haven't been able to figure out why. I'm not overly familiar with the turbo style electronics. I know it doesn't have a standard idle control screw and all that, but I think it'll just take a bit of research to figure out. The Parking and Dash lights don't work, but I'm slowly working my way through the wiring to figure out why. Seems whoever put the stereo in it had no clue what proper wiring technique is. The spegetti mess of wires going one place and wires going no place shows me he had no clue what he was doing. Anyhow, it's going to take a bit of TLC and real Z knowledge to get back to right, but I think I can handle it.
  23. Yes that was one of the big selling points was now I have a Z I can put the kid in and the wife. I love the color scheme and the crack free dash was just jaw dropping. I love it. Great car. Runs decent, but as we all know I can't leave well enough alone, so I'll be tuning it and maybe adding MS once my 81 is up again.
