Hi there BLKMGK...been a while... Had the 2JZGTE and V160 in my 71 240z, prior to going to the turbo LS...fit was great, no problem with the trans tunnel...might be some old pics floating around the archives. Happy to see Cyrus’s car is still here on Hybridz too

Tim, you continue to impress Havent spent much time on here in a while, but was pleasantly surprised to run across this thread

Sweet vid Nice to see you out exercising the beast

Thank you John C...

Cool...I will

Thanks Richard nicely said... Jeff, I do miss being in Fl right now..,that's for sure... I chose to go with the Megasquirt as I needed to do a new harness anyway, and the end user software is pretty impressive. It has way more features than I could ever use. It's also nice to be able to bounce data and ideas off of another user that has a similar setup (Scottie)

Stony's Unnatural Aspiration Part 4!!!
Z-Gad replied to stony's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I hear ya Clint!! I love the aesthetics and exhaust note of the 2jz, but like you said, you can have the entire j/y 5.3 motor together for the price for a set of cams in the 2JZ... If money were no object, Might be a different story...but money is an object -
I'll have to take you up on that Thanks

Thanks all, I am running the latest firmware 1.4 I was recommended to go with the AMS1000, or a boost leash, but before I go out and spend more money on that, I'll explore the MS boost control. Mike
-
I have some boost control issues... that's one of the things I have to address... With the dump closed and running full exhaust, the boost stays steady at 11psi With dump open, boost creeps until it reaches 20 psi...the boost creep is something I need to address. That's part of the reason it leaves so soft and comes on hard the second half of the track...It picked up 35 mph going from 116 mph at the 1/8 to 151 in the 1/4...

Dexter - thanks, the 2JZ is an awesome platform...if only I could figure a way to have both, I would!! Daz - look forward to seeing your progress as well...as for HP numbers...mph/hp calculators put me at 785-ish rwhp based on 3100lb weight and 152 mph trap...

Here's the old build thread... Car has all same peripherals, only long block has changed... http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/113756-been-holding-out-on-you-guys/?fromsearch=1

After my built engine let go last year, I threatened to part the car out and go back to the 2JZ...well I decided to stay with the LS platform and give it a little more time. I scavenged what I could from my destroyed built motor (ARP studs, rockers, PAC 1519 springs, melling oil pump, and metal head gaskets). I picked up a junkyard 6.0 from an 05 Yukon that had an engine fire. I pulled the heads off to have them cleaned and valves reseated. The bottom end looked clean, so I didn't touch it. I reused the metal head gaskets and sprayed them with copper spray, installed the 317 heads with the PAC springs and trunioned rockers and reused my head studs. I did install a Speed Inc TU1.5 cam, but left stock lifters and pushrods. After chasing gremlins all summer, I finally found a group of ground wires that I had overlooked and stumbled upon last week. So after connecting them, I went to the track last weekend to see how it ran... It was a cold day, and traction just wasn't there, but I just wanted it to finally run a clean pass... I made 4 passes, the best being 9.3 @ 152, the worst pass 9.9 @ 151 shown here at 8:20 in the video take there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuclWJ24odk Overall, pretty happy with the ole junkyard engine. You can see a little bit of smoke from the left rear tire rubbing, and I threw the alternator belt on the last pass, so I suppose it is time for a billet tensioner. Track is closing for the winter, so I can make some adjustments over the winter and get back at it in the spring

Fuel pressure drops after driving a while?
Z-Gad replied to jhennessey69's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Had similar situation in the past, and it was a dirty fuel tank...crud would get picked up into the pump and clog the fuel filter...I acted intermittent as well. regards, Mike -

I know, I know... It has not been an easy decision to make. The time, $ spent, and final product is hard to walk away from. It definitely had the potential to go low 8's once tuned and sorted. (Sigh) -

Starting with a stock longblock, (just picked up a complete JDM 2JZGTE pullout with trans for 1600) I dropped in a pair of HKS 272 cams ($800) in a stock longblock, with stock valvetrain, and ran as quick as 9.7 @ 144 with 72mm turbo, and supporting fuel/engine management. I ran it for a couple years like that, and engine still ran fine when pulled, and was only pulled when my built engine was done... For my previous built longblock, .020 oversize Ross forged pistons and Eagle rods Stock n/a block and stock crank ARP 1/2 in head studs ARP mains Ported head 1mm oversize Ferrea valves crower 280 cams, springs, retainers Stock metal head gasket 100 shot of nitrous and 30 psi boost went 8.91@153 with R200 rear and 300zx CV's The money spent was pretty equal between the two built engines (2JZ or LSx) -

I'm going to keep the turbo and maybe the wastegate, so I guess it would depend on how much of the hot side you would want/need...I know this isn't the for sale section, so if someone is interested, PM me and we can talk further -

Quickie update... As many of you know, little over a month ago I had something let go in the bottom end of the built motor at the track, effectively destroying the short block and everything inside with maybe 500 miles on it. Fortunately the heads escaped unscathed... Had a thread on here, but it all disappeared with the site crash a month ago... Anyway, after a month and a half of number crunching, and agonizing on what to do since a new built bottom end is not in the cards right now, and I know I won't feel comfortable with just a stocker... I've decided to take the car down for a while to do some things to it that I have wanted to do, part out the turbo LS setup, and go back to the 2JZ. I'll be posting some items in the for sale section shortly... -
WOW!! Picking up 37+mph on the second half is GETTIN IT!! Congrats on the pass Mike

NHRA license runs and physical complete - Woohoo!! I worked on the launch tune, and left the rest alone. I needed to make two 9 second passes, and knew it was good for mid 9's already... So...performance gains were found completely in the 60' Last pass was... 60' ... 1.456 1/8 ... 6.081 mph .. 117.05 1/4 ... 9.443 mph .. 145.44 Again, sorry, no video... -

Won't be able to get track video until I'm legal again... My NHRA license expired a couple years ago, so I cannot simply renew ... I have to go through the whole process again. NHRA physical next week, then... Hopefully certification run the following week... -

Footbrake, leaving with 7-8 lbs of boost Just found out part of the problem...the MegaSquirt was pulling up to 4* of timing for the second half of the track due to the intake temps above 200*F!! I completely missed that in my initial evaluation of the day's tuning... Timing is 19-20 * at 18-19 psi Just to do a little bench racing... Best 60' with the 2JZ was 1.32 so for every .1 in the 60' = .15 in ET, so roughly .3-.4 Car is around 200 lbs heavier than with the 2JZ, roughly .1 for every 100 added weight... that's .2 Car pulling out timing for half the run, maybe another .1 Add all that up, and it is right where I was with the 2JZ...at 30psi and 100 shot of nitrous Car has A LOT more in it -

Yep, car and I are still alive Went to the track again yesterday... Best pass was as follows... 60' ... 1.599 330 ... 4.159 1/8 ... 6.255 MPH ... 117.06 1000 ... 8.064 1/4 ... 9.595 MPH ... 147.02 Made 6 runs, all in the 9's (9.968, 9.940, 9.648, 9.595, 9.772, 9.748), ... I guess the 9.9x runs were within what the track officials would allow, but after the 9.6 pass, they came to have a discussion with me. I was upfront with them and explained that I did not renew my competition license a couple years ago, as the car was not performing to where I need it. Now that it is improving, I am going for my next physical for work next month and will do the drivers physical at the same time and renew my license. They checked all my safety equipment and allowed me to continue for the day (was just a test-n-tune day anyway). All runs were made on pump/race mix. I was running 18-19 psi of boost (still kind of high in my mind for the power the car is making, but engine is built for 25+, so I am still far from maxed out and it felt strong). Intake temps were into the 200+ degree range, so I really need to get the meth kit hooked up to bring that down. Overall, the car performed great for the day, no hiccups, and received lots of praise and attention. A couple of guys there remembered it from when I had the 2JZ in it... Mike
