  1. Breakage sucks... sorry to hear about the carnage, but it sounds like it may be restricted to the driveshaft itself (crossing fingers)
  2. Wow, a really sobering night and I have some gremlins to work out... Not sure what is going on, but 6500 rpm's, car hiccups and I have to get out of it...can't find anything wrong in the datalog, other than a drop in timing from 21* to 15* and a lean spike due to the hiccup... It struggled to pull under load and trapped only 114 mph @ 8psi I'll get it figured out, but have to post the bad with the good... It can only get better from here <sigh>
  3. f-body pan...hoping I won't have to pull the engine too soon, but I'll look for the Corvette LS3 pan when I do and see if it will work without any further mods. Does the pickup tube for the LS3 pan sit in the middle or the rear? Thanks for the heads-up
  4. Thanks John/Jerry, I plan on being there in Oct in Reynolds. It depends solely on my work schedule. I may still be in the training bubble, and if so, then I have no control of my days off... Hi Pete, I was making somewhere between 750-800 rwhp with the 2JZ according to my 1/4 mile time and weight... Daz, here are a couple more pics, one showing the drivers side, and the other from the front...The full 3" exhaust exits the stock location in the rear. The 4" exhaust dump exits in front of the pass side tire (has a removable cap v-banded on for street use)
  5. Yep, not overly concerned with weight, as this is not strictly a "race" car. My machinist complained about how heavy this new gen IV iron block is as he can usually manhandle a bare small block around, but not this one LOL. I originally took him a Gen III 6.0 junkyard motor as a core (2003 Yukon I believe). He sonic tested the cylinder walls and could not believe that he found some areas only .060 thick! He recommended, since I was going to be throwing an indefinate amount of boost at it, I go with a new block. He sourced a new one from one of his contacts at the Chevrolet dealership, sonic tested it and found that the cylinder wall was .220 thick in the thinest spot... HUGE difference... He also found the Warhawk heads weighed significantly more than the factory heads (a lot more aluminum in them). As for overall weight weight, you are right, everything in the car is heavy.. big turbo, cast manifolds, full exhaust, all the stainless and mild steel turbo spaghetti, mild steel cage, power heated leather 350z seats, even the intercooler is heavier than the one that came out. I am giving up .2-.3 in 1/4 mile time with the added weight, but how fast do I really want to go... I mean the cage is good for 8.50 and any faster and I have to do a funny car hoop and additional bracing. Even at 3100, I'm confident I can make enough power that the cage cert will dictate how fast I can go OK, noticed a little miss last night driving home, so time to read the plugs...so nice having the car home again
  6. Wow, weight with me (185) in it ... 3100 lbs!! ...According to the scale at the dump LOL IT GAINED 250 lbs over the 2JZ
  7. Replaced floors with 10 gauge pans, all seam welded Rockers replaced and mostly seam welded Roll cage Front rails tied together with engine cradle Rear subframe tied together with front diff mount cradle
  8. Noted and fixed LOL Bringing out some old timers ... Good to hear from you Mike. Juan and the "Meister"!! May get to do a little test-n-tune this weekend. Track is real strict, so I won't be setting the world on fire if I can make it
  9. Thanks all for the kind words!! Boost - 5 psi on the street and I can feel the single 3" exhaust choking it up, besides, anything more and it just blows the tires away. I intend to run up to around 20psi at the dragstrip, but I'll creep up on it Rear end - Techno-Toy-Tuning rear end setup with the Moser splines 300zxTT axles and 2.94 geared Armada R230 diff and 300zxTT LSD unit installed race tires - 26x11.5x15 ET streets and M/T frontrunners I will most certainly keep you all posted as the car progresses... I suspect Scottie will chime in with some expletives from the install LOL
  10. After 5-6 years of having the 2JZGTE in my 71 240z, I developed a rod knock last fall. I was going to pull the engine and rebuild it, but decided to make a change... I spoke with Scottie GNZ, and he graciously said, "I know you don't have the time or resources up there (being relatively new to the area up here), bring the car down here and I'll do the install". I spoke with my machinist in Orlando, told him I was wanting to do a built LS1 turbo, and he said, bring it down too... So, I sold all of my 2JZ parts, and began buying LS1 parts, packed up the car and parts and dropped them off in Orlando. I just picked up the car last week and I am grinning ear to ear General build is a GEN IV 6.0 block, Forged Pistons, Eagle rods, World Warhawk heads with inconnel valves, 595 lift cam, modified truck manifolds, single 3" full exhaust (all that would fit past the starter (for the street), and a straight 4" dump that exits in front of the right front tire for the track, Turbonetics 82mm turbo, 45mm Turbonetics wastegate, Treadstone intercooler, 1000cc injectors, stock LS1 intake and tb for now, Megqsquirt 3 EMS, compression is around 9.0:1, TH400 with straight cut gears and 3600 stall... BIG thanks to Scottie for all his tireless work, and to Dover Orlando for the sweet engine build.. Anyway, more to come as I get tuning and track times, and here are the pics ...
  11. Congrats on the runs!! Not running the car right now, so I have to live vicariously through you all
  12. Some of my best z-car memories are from the SEZ/DNI events!! I'll pencil it in on the calendar and the only thing that would make me miss it is if I have to go to training (no flexibility on that) It'd be great to see everyone again!! Mike
  13. First, congrats on the 9 second pass!! I am running the TTT rear end kit with a 2.94 geared R230 diff behind a 2JZ TH400 combo. I have yet to break anything in the kit cutting 1.3x 60's. That being said, I also launch off the footbrake, preloading the drivetrain. It is shock that kills the IRS parts and not so much the power. The parts are top notch and definately heavy duty. I will definately be putting them to the test with the new build ... ... but thats for another thread... mike
  14. YEA BABY!!!!! Awesome numbers John and Jerry!!!!!!!!! You guys have built an awesome seup... I'm going to have to make a trip down to see you all in person... Mike
  15. Well Jerry, the 88mm turbo was short lived, as I had some strange cavitating, fluctuation in boost pressure, and inability to keep the turbo spooled without the nitrous between shifts... It wnet 152 mph, even having all the problems, but I eventually went back to the 76mm turbo. The TTT rear end setup has been great, no breakage and has taken everything I have thrown at it thus far. We'll see how it handles the stick shift though You guys launch that R200 harder than I did, so I have no doubt you'll be able to get there. I'd be surprised if I was the first one into the 8's with the R200, but I guess it is possible.... Anyway, keep the updates coming and when I have something to report I will.. Mike
  16. John / Jerry You guys rock!! I am a little late catching up on this thread, but am subscribed now!! Keep up the good work P.S. I am missing the DNI events as well, since I moved to PA a couple of years ago, I have done next to no racing to speak of and have been slowly converting the car into more of a street driver (pulled the NX kit, installed a 6-speed with a triple disc clutch, and some power heated 350z seats)... Don't get me wrong, it is not going to be JUST a street car (had the chassis recertified last weekend), but it is seeing more street duty and cruising than before... Mike
  17. It's alive !!! Nice o see it running again
  18. Well done Ivo!! You are giving me motivation to get back to work on mine
  19. Great read Mike, Happy to see you are finally getting to enjoy the fruits of your labor... Now that I am in the northeast, I'll have to try to catch up with you all some time, Mike
  20. I just installed a Getrag 6-speed. My engine is mounted maybe 3/4 of an inch from the firewall. I did not shorten the shifter, and the trans fit without trimming inside the tunnel (71 240z). It is tight between the stock mounting ears, but clears both sides. That being said, I did trim the rear of the tunnel shifter hole, as well as the console. I am installing new seats as well, so once I get them in, I'll be able to see if I like the shifter location, or if I will choose to shorten it.
