Hello Tommy, I have a complete 83 L28et - Compression is 145 on all cylinders, no leaks, and runs great... have photos of compression test and vid of it running... I was selling the car as a whole, but am willing to part it out. Shoot me a PM for details of what you need, maybe we can work something out,, Mike

Hi Pete, do you just need the long block (head and block), or do you need the whole deal (carbs, exhaust, etc... Either way, I may have one for you depending on what you need... Shoot me a PM and I'll send you my phone number to chat... Also in PA (zip 17268) Regards, mike

The N42/F54 flattop was my engine combo of choice for YEARS. Timing and good ignition were critical, and as long as I ran 93 and did not get a bad tank of gas, it was a great combo. Mike

Well done, glad to see you are getting to finally enjoy it a little
-
Lookin' good Gotta admit, I think I agree with Ivo.. I got more enjoyment out of the old L28 turbo daily beater than I have out of the 2JZ car.. I mean, I could drive and park the L28et car anywhere without the slightest worry of anything happening to it. I drive the 2JZ 240z somewhere, and I cannot enjoy my time away from the car, worrying about it sitting there unguarded. <sigh>

Hey Gabe, good to hear from you as well Regretably, I did not get to best the 8.91 time before swapping out the auto. I relocated to PA, and was faced with dragsrtrip tech Nazi's that I had not encountered in Florida. I guess that's what happens in Domestic country. I mean, they wanted me to put a wall between the front of the car and the hatch area of the car. It wasn't important enough for me to run on their track, so the car is going to do more street duty, so it is getting some more comfy seats and I may just put in all the plastic interior pieces, some sound deadening and a radio. Maybe I'll look into some autocross or track days for a change of pace. What new w/ you ? Mike

The TH400 setup out of the car offset the trans, but still had to get the driveshaft and multi-disc clutch I try not to think about what I have spent on the car. It just takes some of the fun out of it LOL!!

Been a while since my last update, so figured I would drop a few lines... After much deliberation, I sold the TH400 out of the car over the winter. Meanwhile, I picked up a Getrag 6-speed and an Exedy triple disc clutch to put behind the 2JZGTE. I had to have a telescoping driveshaft w/ 1350 u-joints, and adapter made to go from the Getrag output flange to the R230 Armada diff. Parts picture is here... http://forums.hybridz.org/uploads/1308347411/gallery_119_955_272370.jpg When I did the initial install, I routed much of the wiring through the clutch master opening, so I have plenty of re-wiring to do <sigh> My methanol tank is also mounted where the clutch master cylinder will be as well, so that'll have to be moved or removed for the time being. I haven't had the car on the road since last fall, so hopefully, I'll be able to get some enjoyment out of it before summer ends More to come, as the 6-speed swap progresses... Regards, Mike

I am looking for a yellow speedo cog. It is for a 3.36 differential, so nearly any 240z manual trans should have one ... I forgot to pull it from the 4-speed I pulled out of my 71... Anyway, shoot me a Pm if you have one Thanks, Mike

Sure beats pushing it around!! Congrats on getting it started and running

Congrats!! Great choice for a career AFAIC!! -
Thank you for posting this...I was going to mention something, but couldn't bring myself to type it up LOL ... there is so much mis-information out there. I anxiously await your results

Oh, no!!! I certainly do not believe *all* career oriented pilots do nothing but flight instruct It is simply the most 'mainstream' method of gaining flight hours, and something is to be said for teaching someone else to fly, as one of the best ways to learn something thoroughly is to teach someone else to do it. It just doesn't prepare you for the transition and I have heard some great instructors wash out of initial airline training... There are many ways to gain experience and I get plenty of different backgrounds listening to other pilots that I fly with (for example, some have corporate backgrounds, some have flown flight watch, some are professional flight instructors, some have gone the cargo route, some have military backgrounds, some have flown for the forestry, some have flown checks, even cropdusting, etc). Right now though, flying jobs "the other ways to gain valuable flight experience", are few and far between in any form. One good thing about the lack of flying jobs is that since there is no movement, the average experience level of all of the airlines (especially the regionals) is increasing...

I have been with them for 3 years. I started flying in 2001. It took me a while to land my first flying job, but finally got hired. I went the GA route, had a school close and take all the $ I paid upfront ($50000 or so). I was ~ 2 weeks away from my multi-commercial when they closed, so actually lost around $24000 or so... Had to take a couple of years off after that to financially recover and decide if I wanted to continue (left a rather bad taste in my mouth to say the least), but eventually went back to aviation and finished my ratings. I flew a CRJ200 based out of Detroit for a year, and when our Atlanta base opened, I went to go fly the brand new $20,000,000+ airplanes ... shiny new jet syndrome they call it I guess ... actually I was commuting out of Orlando, so the move to Atlanta just made sense. Regarding the mins that appear to be coming forth, Experience is a valuable thing when holding people's lives in your hands, but I am unsure how flying around a pole for 1000+ hours prepares you for a right seat job in a jet. You can get really good at turns around a point and slow flight, but making the transition to an aircraft that is all glass and has a 140 knot approach speed...not so much. I also see loopholes in the legislation for people going through "airline approved" jet transition programs... much like they have today... Safety is paramount in the airline industry, and there is no substitute for experience and MATURITY (note I did not say age), but public perception comes a close second. That being said, there will be a shortage of qualified pilots once guys start retiring again at 65 and losing their medicals for other reasons, and the shortage will impact the regionals the hardest. It will be an interesting situation to watch... Mike

Little late entering this thread, but I work as a regional airline pilot, currently on a Bombardier CRJ-900 based in Atlanta. It's a fun job, but somebody's got to do it

How do the other pistons/ringlands look? Was it isolated to that one piston? Your timing was uber conservative, so I would suspect fuel... maybe that particular injector, or wiring connector. If is was isolated to that one slug, then perhaps a flawed cast piston... Might be worth a set of forged pistons (then you can set your compression ratio where you like...I prefer 8:1 giving me some cushion to run higher boost on straight pump gas) Regards, Mike

Probably a removable panel on the inside... Anyway, do you have any photos inside the car? Will you be redoing the inside of the passenger's side to accomodate the downpipe, or will the turbo be relocated? Very interesting idea -Mike

Looked like a wild ride Glad to see you are getting it sorted out !!
