  1. Clint... If I remember correctly, you didn't use the 280z stubs... only the 240z stubs and the 280zx turbo stubs (since both had the same spline count), both of which are weaker than the 280z stubs... Am I right? My memory is a little fuzzy about the details...
  2. Awesome ... Love the attention to detail Austin!!

  4. 2.93's working out great on the highway ... 70mph and under 3000 rpm's without an overdrive and a 4200 stall converter is not to shabby. We'll see how it acts the 2nd week in January as I will have it at the track for some testing runs. Stony - Rear end pics are in my Hybrid Z album in my signature. Sort them from most recent and they should be close to the top.
  5. I too have gone to a Techno Toy Tuning rear end setup, but with an Armada 2.94 geared R230. It required a little more fabrication on my part, since I chose an oddball rear end (photos are in my signature), but it is much stouter than the long nose R200 stuff. I went to it, not because I broke any of the R200 parts, but I intended to make even more power and felt that the move was to eliminate the next weak link (which I thought to be the stub axles).
  6. You'll want the 300zx turbo cv's out of the 84-89 300zx turbo, 280z stub axles, and the 300zx CV adaptors from http://www.modern-motorsports.com ... and yes, it will be fine w/ 400 RWHP. I went 8.91 on the R200 (LSD) w/ CV's and no breakage (somewhere between 750-800 rwhp according to horsepower/weight calculations)...
  7. Another quick update... Exhaust is as high as it will go without cutting out part of the transmission tunnel (I may do this later). I have put some highway miles and a few pump gas highway pulls for tuning purposes. Initial impressions... car is a slug until around 5500 rpm's... then at around 6000, it is an on/off switch. Although I have not done any tuning above 18 psi (wastegate setting), it feels strong, as it should with the 88mm turbo. Dragstrip opens January 7th. I will have the car out for some sorting runs the night of the 7th, 9th, or on Sunday the 11th (daytime), or any combination of the above. I may need a little more spray to get the turbo to spool quicker, so I will have the 150 shot jets standing by. It will be hard to sleep between now and then with all the anticipation...maybe I can get the car on the dyno before the track (never had it on the dyno before as I have done all my high boost tuning at the dragstrip).
  8. Haven't made it to the track, but have been driving it around town...so far so good. Track will have to wait until the beginning of the year, as they are closing for the holidays... Mike
  9. So you do run the 50 throughout the run? It sounded like a small shot to spool up the turbo.
  10. That setup should work very nicely... what are you going to use for engine management, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, etc?
  11. If WOTM made it, then I would trust it. If they bought it from China and repackaged it, then I would add a couple of braces from the turbo flange to the manifold flange.
  12. lookin' fine Any bracings on that manifold to hold the weight of that turbo?
  13. I thought about doing something similar... only to carry my race tires ofcourse
  14. Also, is it angled up in the rear or does it come straing back level with the ground? I am just wondering if too much rear downforce will cause the front to lift, creating additional handling problems... Mike
  15. Nice looking piece there... I am adding headlight covers and VG's to the roofline in an attempt to reduce high speed drag before I get back to the track. I am anxious to hear the results of your testing, as I may run into similar high speed issues, although the car has not gotten out of shape at high speed ... yet ...
  16. Thanks all Drove the car around for 2-3 hours working on tuning today. I was very conservative, just getting the driveability worked out since I am at square one w/ the new EMS. I haven't even gotten into boost yet. I have so many changes since it was on the road last that I am taking it in baby steps. Anyway, the downpipe and exhaust hang way too low and I have to be careful where I drive, so as not to hit them. I have maybe an inch of ground clearance. I spoke to Mark today and will be taking the car back to Mazworx to get the ground clearance issues tended to. He is uber busy right now, so it may be a couple of weeks. I'll probably give in and do a little more tuning before it is fixed though. I am impatient like that. So far so good on the rear end bits. Although I haven't put any real power through it yet, driveability-wise all is good... stay tuned, more to come I know there are lots of new people since this vid was done, but here is an old in-car from Clarkspeed's helmet cam http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5041605133005967952
  17. Looks like it tucks up there nicely. Good job
  18. Rick - I had issues getting the Ford EBP sensor to read correctly, but it appears that the 4-bar is doing it's job. I'll know for sure once I get to driving it around a bit. It is hard to tell from free reving.... JSM - The help I have... it is my own motivation Jeffer - Bought a Mighty Vac last week to do some other vacuum testing. Again, it's all on me. I'll have it done by the end of the weekend.... More to come... Mike
  19. Hello all, been a while since the last update.. The Techno Toy Tuning rear end setup is mounted, with the 2.94 geared Armada diff with the Z32 R230 LSD. New Arizona Zcar Z32 rear brakes, and 17x11 rear and 17x9.5 CCW's are mounted and ready to roll. The wider rear ZG are mounted and the fitment w/ the CCW's looks spot on. Rick (Speeder) paid me a house call last week and wired in the Electromotive TEC3. I have installed a 4-bar MAP sensor with the TEC3 for 'higher' boost levels over the 3-bar sensor I ran with the TEC II. All I have left to do prior to starting the street tuning/driving is the brakes STILL need to be bled. It is my absolute LEAST favorite thing to do. I just find it annoying... Overall, I am happy with the latest round of upgrades, but the car hasn't been driven since December of last year!! I'll spend a couple/few weeks getting the bugs worked out and driving it around before I slap some sticky rubber on it and see what it will do at the track. I am confident the I have eliminated further weak links, so I should be able to push it harder. I am also anxious to see how it will react to the 2.94 gears as opposed to the 3.36 gears I used to run. I'll update this thread as more progress is made. New photos are in my photo album in my signature. Mike
