  1. Well, I was coming home from running errands this afternoon, minding my own business, and at the stoplight behind me I see decked out Mustang and a big GMC truck with a scoop take off when the light turned green. The Mustang just ran away from the truck. When they got up to me (my light was still red and there were 2 cars at the light in front of me ... one in each lane). The Stang driver was happily chatting wth the GMC truck guy after just putting a whoopin' on him. I started checking out the Mustang and it had a big STEEDA sticker on the top of the windshield, had a nice looking side exhaust (kinda angular and molded into the ground effects) and the "bullit" style wheels. It was all silver AND there was a 20 something year old driving it... I had seen the car a few times before near my neighborhood. Anyway, finally the light turned green. I gave it a little gas to go around the cars in front of me. When I shifted, the blow off valve let off a tiny whistle. The Steeda jumped right behind me, followed me around the cars and when the coast was clear, I went into the left lane, leaving the right for him. As I went into the other lane (doing ~30-35 mph) I could hear him step on the gas. I thought he'd drop in next to me (for an even start), but he didn't let off. I see him smile and look over as he's going past. I step on the accelerator as I am next to him. I really haven't gotten onto the car since I finished the engine (again - aargh!!), but there's nearly 800 miles on the engine and I had just changed the oil for the second time. I had the boost set to ~13 lbs and at the 2nd to 3rd shift I was at his door. At the 3rd to 4th shift, he was at my door. I just wound out 4th and when I looked down at the gauges, I was tacking 6k, the speedo read 140 (reads a little fast) and he was atleast 1 car behind as I could see the whole car in my rear view. I let off the gas and slowed down to talk to him. He just slowed down proportionally and would not get beside me., I tried to waive to him, but he wouldn't even look over at me. I had to run home to my computer to get this in...Sorry for the long drawn out story, but it was fresh in my head Oh well, first kill for the 3.1 turbo
  2. Used to listen to "The Grease Man" every now and then on DC101 years ago. I only caught Howard Stern's movie a few years ago. That's pretty much my knowledge of the "shock jocks".
  3. If you want to hold off on the turbo upgrade, you could install the intercooler frst and start turning up the boost. A fellow HybridZ'er got down into the 12's w/ the stock turbo. When you do get an intercooler, make sure you get a GOOD one4 the first time that'll handle your future upgrades. Believe me, there will be more

I don't know if those people are any match for the foreign tourists here in 0rlando. I just wish the mass transportation system here was better, so maybe they wouldn't feel like they have to clog up the higher traffic areas
  5. Don't forget to use some thread locker as well. I had a problem with a crankshaft bolt coming out repeatedly after a similar incident. After losing the pulley and all while driving ~45 mph, I decided thread locker was the only way to go!!!
  6. I just weighed my diesel crank using the digital bathroon scale. Mine weighs in at 48 lbs and my L28 crank weighed in at 45 lbs. Although the weigh myself, then weigh me and the crank method isn't perfectly accurate, it should be relatively close.
  7. That's a solid mid 14 second 1/4 mile. Some sticky tires (*cough...drag radials...cough*) should help your 60' and your spinning through the lower gears. My best of a dozen or so runs w/ the 73 L28 n/a 240z had 9.581 1/8th at 74.15 and 1/4 of 14.862 at 92.44 w/ a 2.215 60'. Your 1/8th is quicker than mine by .16, so that should give you the 1/4 mile at around 14.62 or so. That is very respectable...
  8. First of all "Welcome" !! Now try going to WWW.Zhome.com and pan down to the heading "Modifications For More HP " It is a good place to start if you are thinking about the swap
  9. The new ands improved turbo "daily drivinest"
  10. Looks very nice. Hopefully you'll do enough business to have them around a while.
  11. From 240 Turbo's homepage... "TRANSMISSION 4N71B 4-speed auto from 88 Dodge Conquest (stock OEM rebuild)* Modified Valve body (Level 10 Performance provided mods needed) 4N71B 4-speed bell housing from 82 NIssan Maxima 4N71B pump from 82 Nissan Maxima Protorque 5700 RPM custom converter (lowered to 4300 shortly) 82 Maxima Flexplate *OEM REBUILD GOOD FOR 500+ HP ON 240Z WITH VALVE BODY MODS" Just something for you to think about until you get ahold of him.
  12. My daily driver flat top L28 w/ Shaved N42 and SU's has no problem pulling into the red. I am using a stock E31 head cam and only the stock mechanical fuel pump. I am leaning more toward your ignition rather than the fuel problem. Getting rid of the points and going w/ an electronic ignition (79-81 ZX distributor for example) has worked wonders for my upper RPM's for spark (no point bounce), but first check your timing marks. Get the #1 to TDC, pull the valve cover and check the alignment markings. Also check that the rotor is just hitting the #1 cylinder plug on the cap. It sounds like the timing may be retarded. my .02
  13. Hey JB, I know when I leave my choke on and turn the car off, it makes that knocking at shut off. Try leaning out the mixture another half to a full turn and see where it gets you.
  14. Bummin dude, I was really hopin to at least hear you got one good run in. Well, it coulda been worse...my last time at the track I cracked the #6 cylinder wall to the water passage...smoke everywhere!! I am still trying to mentally recover P.S. No show = win!!
  15. the head should come off if all of the other studs are removed...(unless you missed the 2 10mm bolts on the front of the head). try shooting some anti-sieze oil around the stud and allow it to penetrate. Hopefully that will free it up enough that it will let the head go!! good luck
  16. Yea, I checked out that listing earlier as well. I think the guy just got his car pics mixed up. That isn't the 280zx engine bay either.
  17. I have found that if you can't find something, go to the source. Your local Nissan dealer. You may have to pay a bit more, but you will get the original part you want.
  18. I believe you have to remove the bracket under the diff as well. The moustache bar won't drop down far enough to clear the pins it's mounted to without doing it. mike
  19. First things first...Welcome!! Now second, pick up the V8 conversion manual from JTR http://www.customconversion.com/ Many of your initial Q's will be answered there. It is also an excellent reference. As for the car you choose, Do emissions play a part in Colorado? If so, you may wish to look at pre-74 Z cars. I am sure others will chime in here Regards, Mike
  20. thats Kewl Brian. I am a member of the Central Florida Z Club. We meet up in Altamonte the second Thursday of each month (just passed). There are a few restorers there, but also some nicely modified cars. Getting together sounds kool, I'll drop you a message w/ my cell and we can hook up. Hmmm beer and cookies huh? and oh yea... Welcome to the board!!
  21. Hey Syndicate, Where in O-town you at? Mike
  22. Mopars are so cool. I just love the way it sounds..."MOPAR" Great to finally have a member put one in a Z to blaze the way I look forward to the pics
