  1. in the book "Turbocharging" by Hugh Machines, it quotes says that tuned is the way to go for high boost apps. "One of the best examples of this was a 2.0 liter BMW that Gary Knudsen at Mclaren Engines developed for Can-Am racing. The engine produced 540 HP on gas with Mark ait-to-air intercoolers and a simple log type manifold. Gary replaced the log manifold with tuned headers and picked up 60 HP. When he adjusted the cam specs to take advantage of the better exhaust, the engine produced 640 HP on the dyno and 600 on the track! When Gary installed the tuned headers, throttle response also improved tremendously." "He found that if the exhaust pipes were connected to the seperate sides of the divided ehaust housing so that the exhaust pulses entering each side were evenly spaced, throttle response improved even more. Though this arangement didn't add power, "tubo lag" was all but gone." i think we are on one of the right paths. there is just to many to take to get to the end. jimbo
  2. i work at home, i have an office in the back yard, and have several employees. some times it is nice. you do not have to dress accordingly unless necessary. can have beers while working, or margs, or whatever. the rest of the time is is kind or rough. NO gauranteed paychecks. feast or famine. when it is good, its good. at some time it will pay off. mikelly knows about it im sure. i know there are several more out there as well. find a need and fill a need. good luck to you. i have respect for anyone who tries it on their own and makes it. there is a ton of work to do but it is rewarding. jimbo
  3. i got a xbox 360 and a damn house remodel. i wanted the games, not the bills. jimbo
  4. i would say it will reduce the amout of stuff falling out for the next 2 decades but not eliminate. that crap goes everywhere. jimbo
  5. proper protection is key with whatever medium you use. having sandblasted for a living, i do not mess around with saftey equip. my job was to clean the concrete off of the forms used for sidwalks and gutters. the contractors would not use the release agent on the forms. i would have to blast it off with the blaster or even more fun, hcl. that crap there is no room for error. media blasting is ok if done right, no matter the material. take precautions for the object and yourself. jimbo
  6. i am in the middle of sand blasting. i have tired the suction one, read suck. i borrowed a pressurized one from dave at azcar. kicks ass. i have used glass in my blast cabinet and a little out side. the alum oxide works good too. but at $20 for a 20# box at hf, i can get 5 bags of play sand at hd and go nuts. i have a portable garage thing on the side of the house to HELP maintain the mess. i layed a tarp down so it is easier to harvest the used sand to reuse. i have the pressure in the tank maxed at 100-110 psi and the blow by valve at 1/3 open and adjust the sand outlet to maintain an even flow. i have not noticed any warpage. i have the nozzel 18" away at all times and keep it moving. the sand needs to be replaced now after 5-6 times through. still cheaper than glass or walnut. if i were to do it again, i will pay someone to do it. jim
  7. find a post from clifton. his picture is his charcoal grey car and silver wheels. jimbo
  8. i ended up with the hyper black ones. 9" front and 10" rears. nice. i would go for the silver or hyper black but that is me. jimbo
  9. the plan is for a competative car both on and off the track. this is normally not to hard to do with these cars but that is not my style. got to make it way more difficult. 10. i have done close to that in my stock 76 280 2+2. that, my friends is a land yaght(sp). playing with a 70's vette. jimbo
  11. my 5 yr old saw this behind me and thought that santa was not going to be here this year. now i have explaining to do to her and the 3 yr old. probably a bleesing though. get it over with. "sorry kids. there will not be many presents under the tree this year. sants got shanked." jimbo
  12. that give so food for thought. would not mind looking in to that. would be a heavy mo fo though. jimbo
  13. um, ok. if you want to go that far i guess. i think a good close up shot will do it as well. if the car is on a slope, i can rotate the picture so that the car is now "level". the big thing is a loarge enough distance from one point to another. ie, from ground to windshield base could give a larger error than ground to drip edge. if i am off by 1/4" by scaling the windshield that the total error would be colser to 1/2". if i am off by 1/4" at the drip edge i will only be off by 1/4". jimbo
  14. straight on front shot just like the wind sees it. as far as how far back, i could care less as long as i have a had dimension to a known point. i would think that the closes you are the finer the details and the more of a chance that i hit the mark. if i could get a dimension of ground to drip edge or outside edge of fender to outside edge of fender, that will work. the larger the dimesion the better. start sending pics. jimbo
  15. 2fiddyz has some fetish when it comes to racing vipers it seems. clifton can vouch for that. he has the same set up as cliftons. scary fast. 2fiddy said he took down a twin turbo viper after a car show not to long ago. $100g vs $10-15g. then step into pasta rockets. i have several friends with 360 mondellos and 911 gt3s that are waiting for me to finish my z. i should hook them up with clifton or 2fiddy. they just want to see what they can do. most of my friends have accepted that the z will be quicker, just not faster. they have to have one to keep up with the jones. it looks like you can more than compete with new cars with these old one for very little money. that is what makes it fun. jim
  16. i took the picture and scaled it in acad. not perfect because of the fuzzy lines but it should be close. if a coupls of people were to get a good photo of their car head on and give me a few hard dimensions, i can get a better scale from the photos and get more realistic #'s. several different cars would be good. no dam. bre dam. full air dam. flares. wheels if needed, ect. jimbo
  17. the frontal area is 17.78 sq. ft. per acad and the chassis pic. i traced the outline of the car and went down as far as the lower valence. add a air dam and i estimate a total of 20.7 sq. ft. depending on the dam used. hope that helps jimbo
  18. i think that car was in was in a motor trend a few years back. maybe not thought. one of the 6 has a crazy story. the car was sold to a guy and drove it on the street. to unconfortable to drive on street so he sold it to another guy. he died and his wife did not know what to do with it. she kept it in the barn for 15-20 years. not to long ago she set herself on fire and jumped off a a bridge. the fall did not kill her. she left a note about the car and they found it in the barn. moved it to a storage locker to be safe. lawyers got involved and before they figured out who the rightful owner was it was stolen and sold to a rich @$#$ in pa i think. carol shelby tried to buy it but it "disappeared". jim
  19. speaking of stupid people and viloence. a friend of mine was at the nextel cup this weekend in phoenix with his brother. some how they got seperated and scott went back to the camp site. on the way back, some dude hit him over the head. that is the last he remembers. woke up in the hospital with massive swelling to the brain, multiple head fractures, broken eye socket, 200+ stiches over the eyes. he needs plastic surgery to fix his lips that got tore off of his face. most of his teeth are missing or down his throat. scott is a pot head. about as melow as they come. no idea what cause the redneck to go ape $hit but by standers tackled the guy and held him down untill the popo arived. the guy is in jail w/o bond for attemped manslaughter. scotts wife got the phone call at 3:30 in the am from the chaplin at the hospital that she "might want to come down". i do not think that she will let him back there again. i do not own a gun or want to own a gun. i have a hard enough time as it is with stupid people. i would end up using it. jim
  20. my god. it take all kinds to make the world go round. some people call it dawinism. jim
  21. congrats. i have 4 girls that are mine, that i know of. 11,5,3,1. they are to much fun when they are little. getting older is a different story. get sleep now, you will not when he comes home. every 2-3 hours you are up. luckly your wife has food bags attached so you can just put him up next to her and roll over untill the next feeding. congrats again, it is a woderful feeling to see them for the first time . the down side is your wife wont let you touch her as often:icon55: . jim
  22. the video is a little blurry but it looks like the air is still close to the car in a smooth flow untill about halfway down the hatch, there it gets very turbulant. i think that the vgs at the top of the roof would help bring that air down farther and get more smooth flow over a spoiler. just my observation. jim
  23. mikelly, they has been alot of talk lately on various wings on the corner-carvers site. most seems to be about the tiger racing wing that was discussed earlier in this thread. it looks like there are others that are half the price that will do a good job, the sites escape me thought. imo, it seems that w/o a body kit like from reaction, the wing may cause other problems. i guess it depends on the track and the speeds that are driven. jim
