alot of people here have said that if you want a safer car on the street then go get a safer car. a full cage will help but at the expence of your head. i do not think there is any way to help the doors out at all in a side impact. the doors are too low, too thin, too old. a normal sedan has the bumper right at mid height, let alone an suv where the bumper comes over the window sill. i know where you are going and i have thought about it myself as wanting a full track car and streetable, but they are mutualy exclusive. best of luck. +1 with what jon said. rool bar, with harness bar. seats and subframe connectors. jimbo

ah school. i know you have heard it all before. finish. i remember the calc classes. calc 1 was fun, 2 was less fun, 3 was worse, and diff eq was crap. where in the #$#@ am i going to use that. i took lots of english classes because i was bad at it. lit to technical writing to creative writing. as an engineer, you would not belive how much you have to write. its not all numbers and science. reports up the wazoo. dug physics, chem was boring untill i got the right teacher that brought it to life. that was fun. would like to go back and take history classes and such for fun. love history. it all makes sence later on. good luck and stay on top of the homework. jimbo

+1 on the metal geek program. made life so much easier for 90 degree cuts. once it started to get off of 90, i just went slower. after a buch of tubes being notched, i have not used it much because i have figured out the notches in my head. as for tube coming into each other at really wierd angles, paper towel tubes are your best friend. way cheaper than messing up a tube and having to go get more. jimbo

my mom and my sister left yesterday. my sis works at johnson and they closed yesterday so that everyone can get out. both live in clear lake which is better than galveston but not by much. both live next to channels. hope everything is still there when you all get back. jimbo

worland, nice. do not know what keeps some of those places alive. greenriver, shoshoni, riverton, evanston. if you go to shoshoni, you have to stop at the drug store. THE BEST MALTS EVER. there are bumper stickers all over wyoming "i get my malts at the Shoshoni drug store" no if ands or buts about it. miss that place. jimbo

born and raised in casper wyoming. people like the outdoors there. especially hunting and fishing. not much else to do really. good cycling, both road and mountain bike. usually pretty windy. nothing to stop the wind. when its warm in town, go up casper mountain to bear tap meadow or do the brail trail, lots cooler up there and pretty. thermoplis hot springs is less than 2 hrs away and of course there is yellowstone and the tetons if you have the time. jimbo

harness bar location on main hoop
JIM73240Z posted a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
i am putting the finishing notches on my roll cage and i am left with the harness bar. fyi, i have ultra safe seats and my shoulders come up about half way through the harness hole in the seat back. the harness is then supposed to be at a 10-15 degree angle up off of the shoulders to the harness bar. great. the deal is i think the horizontal bar should be welded to the node of the first bent in the main hoop. in my situation, the bar would be located about 1 1/2" below where the harness needs to be. should i: A. put the horizontal harness bar at the correct location for the harness and leave it alone or B. put the horizontal bar in the correct location of the main hoop and add a short horizontal bar above for the harness ?????????? tia jimbo -
looking at his vids, it looks like he is fast but smooth in his shifts. playing in his car on saturday i was running through the gears and there was nothing sticking. i was in the parking lot playing like a little kid. i think it is t5 time. jimbo

i had a bolt strip out the treads in the housing. i just drilled bigger and tapped it. while you are doing all of that, take the radiator out and get it rodded. i chased my overheating engine for several weeks only to find it at the last place i looked, the radiator. from the cap it looked good and clean. i guess not on the inside. good insurance anyway. jimbo

it looks better than the stock. i bet it would spool better than stock. would it flow better than an all out one? no. but it is still better than stock. jimbo

i dig it. it should be functional, not just for looks though. most of the ricer stuff is not in any way funtional. any hood vents and any mods to the air dam should be there for a reason. not just because it goes with the tuner crowd. just my .02 jimbo

i got my undercoating to come off with the sand. took way longer than i thought and i am dam glad i did not do it in the garage. i had one of those portable garages from hf. it helped contain the mess. had tarps under the car so that i can harvest the sand. could do that a couple of times and had to put in new. i would wire wheel or use stripper for the under coating if i had to do it over again. the blaster just took too long. jimbo

Budget Minded Car Tilter(s), Opinions Wanted!
JIM73240Z replied to gdv350ss's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
both of those look inexpensive. i used 2 engine stands from hf. jimbo -
its hit or miss out here. there is a toyota and nissan salvage yard that wants 350 for the rear suspension. i avoid that place. they do have a pile of s30 fenders up against the fence and lots of short blocks. i would guess they have about 25-35 s30 in there. cant afford that though. i do wish there were cheaper places though. oh well. jimbo

this weekend was 1/2 off sale at the pink n pull. i walked out with zx master cylinder $8.00 zx hood vents $1.00 flip down licence plate bracket $1.00 bw t5 tranny $50.00 z ac compressor $12.00 too bad it is hot enough to be on the surface of the sun. yesterday was 115 degrees. had to wear work glove to keep from burning my hands on the tools that never went into the sun. this place is like 50 acres of crap and only 1 zx and 2 z's. there was a couple of 300z's but i never count those. sometimes things actually work out for the best;-) jimbo

i just got my 76 2+2 road worthy and by passed all of the emissions crap by saying that it is a "pleasure vehicle" only to be driven on occation. i have the hagerty collector car inssurance to back me up. no emissions needed. i even payed a little extra for the historic plates. if i remember right, if the car has emmisions equipment, it will have to pass emissions. with the new tuned header im getting and new exhaust, the cat will somehow disapear off of my car. check with the dmv down there to be sure. jimbo

there is a s130 in fast times at ridgemont high. the 26 yr old audio salesman is driving it on the date with the 15 yr old to the point or something. near the begining of the movie. jimbo

here is mine. it is a 76 that have been moth balled on the side of my house for 8 years. i have owned it for 10. with gas prices up, i stopped driving the armada and started getting this back up and running again with the side benifit of starting hpde classes so when the 73 race car is done, i will be on the track with it. http://velocityracingdevelopment.com/#club-racing-az--nasa--firebird-main-f4734 all stock for now. it has a mean exhaust leak. i will get a new tuned header for it and lowering springs. i doubt i will do any other mods to it as it is my dd and will be handed down to my oldest daughter in a few years when she is able to drive. new paint will be in the works here shortly. jimbo

nice. there is more than one way to install that. never thought about good ol zips. mine will be attached to the cage with dzus like in the pdk install pics. not close to istall yet but getting there. the fit and finish look very good. the packaging that it came in was questionable at best though. the dash did survive the shipping just fine but it looked like it had been through the opening scene of "ace ventura pet detective". jimbo
