+1 for x64z. As a side note, dams are only designed to hold back the first foot or two of water that is behind them. pressure is pressure, no matter what the medium is. jimbo

Understanding Race Car Aerodynamics
JIM73240Z replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
I think wings look good on a z. Mean as hell looking. Take a look at Mike Kellys car. Wing and front air dam and vgs. My take on ricey is similar to Jon's, if your car cant move out of its own way and you have all of the crap on it and it is loud as hell, its rice. If it gets a move on, with all of the crap on it, is race. One letter seperates it all, and the z can definitely move out of its own way. jimbo -
OK all. I need some opinions. First. I am trying to modify the MSA type 3 air dam for radiator ducting and getting it lower to the ground. As you can see this is a race car and with the motor in i expect it to drop maybey 1" more. Maybe. 350# springs. I have closed off a portion of the bottom so that the opening is 20" wide. the fmic is see in the pics. It will be about 1-2" higher than shown in the pics. I will still have an oil cooler in there somewhere as well as the cold air intake (hopefully). Seeing this should I: A close the bottom part altogether and mod the top. B close the bottom half of the bottom and mod the top C how to mod the top and still allow the hood to open on the hinges and with the ducting. Im not sure on that. Hell, that part may not even be possible with the way the hood swings. What did the rest of you do that did the ducting do? Anything you can come up with, I am all ears. jimbo

OK. Got the car off the jack stands to clean out the garage. While it was out might as well get some pics. when the sun is up high i can get a good look of the roof. plus i hope to have the fron air dam finished by this week end. the car is lowwwwwwww. i like. jimbo -
I would go for the small multi family unit to get in the game. The prices will go down a little more i think, given the area, but the interst rates are insane right now. Also, paying off the mortgage is NOT always a good thing. If you have property, you have insurance on said property. If you rent out that property and someone gets hurt on the icy side walk and sue you, you have your banks attourneys and your insurace attourneys on your side. If you paid it off, its all on you. There are some asset protection seminars that roll through, go and check them out. They have some really good ideas on building and protecting your wealth, however much it may be. jimbo

No, its a good thing. heat = pressure = getting the turbine to spool faster. When air cools down it contracts or can slow down in tubing. We want as much hot air coming out as we can get. The hotter the better to a point. After the turbo, it can cool down, it already did the work that we needed it to do. Hope that made cense. jimbo

well, its been a while since i last wrote in this. cage: done interior paint: done i finished up bending the bars for the cage at the shop and abd brought it home. i did all the notching in my spare time and got it welded up. once i got that finished, i did the rest of the body work that had to be done before i painted the inside. reason is so that i can drop the motor in and get the car wired up with out the kids bikes scratching it up. i know it will happen once it gets on the street but i would like it to stay somewhat nice untill then. also, i can take my time on the apperance part and the aero part. the roof was a huge pita. but i think its good enough for a good looking race car, not a show car. the camaro looking scoop on the hood, i wanted to make it open and epoxy a alum sheet under neath to try and draw out engine heat. but, after taking it over with my brother who is a aeronautical engineer and car nut, i closed it up. floral foam and fg. the front air dam is a msa type 3 and i have hit a curb or two when it was on my 2+2. so fixing that and makeing things easier to mount the radiator ducting. the wires are strung out through the car. im using the e-z wireing harness. i will mount it to the fire wall with the relay board and ms2 comp when it gets in. battery box is bolted to the floor behind the passenger seat and the battery cables are run to the front through the master switch. the brake lines are being bent up at my own pace. that takes a while. looking at the fuel lines, i think i need to wait untill i put the diff up to do the final bending back there. i need to get the lsd into the diff. the motor goes to the shop tomorrow. block, pistons, rods, damper, clutch, head, flywheel, crank. get it done so i can put that together and into the car. mean while, i will finish odd and ends. i need to get a new camera since it hit the floor for the last time at a recent b-day party for one of my daughters. sorry. need to charge up the cam corder in the mean time. jimbo -
i have the fg hatch with an apr wing on it. still on jack stands as of now but heres is the link http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117251 post 7 & 8 show the wing on there. i will brace the wing attachment somehow but have not gotten to that part yet. jimbo

patron is good stuff. i have several bottles at home that i sample. my fav is cabo wabo (sammy hagar). about the same, mabey a little more than patron but smooooooooooooth. put some blue curaco in and sip away. the blcak label jose is good too. sauza commemoritive (sp) is a good choise. as far as the beeritas go, several of my golfing friends swear by it. i always take a gal of marg with me on the golf cart, (im not a golfer so i do not care) by the 8th or 9th, they are mixing my marg mix with the beer thatthe brought and love it. happy drinking jimbo

the 2' jog in the wall makes the hip at the front of the garage (the roof line over the 2 car garage). lining everything up would get rid of that and would make the front elevation less attractive. i would leave the jog in or make it bigger and let the wife have the 1 car garage bay:). more room for parts on the floor. you could go deeper if the lot alows, but money and lot dimesions are the main constraints. jimbo

looks nice and functional. you may think about taking it to a local designer for some tweaking to make it fit YOU. it sounds like it has all of the basics, but some tweaking may make it YOURS. for example. put the water heater in the other closet in the utility room. then from upstairs there is a dead space that is right over the other closet. bam, laundry shute. with kids in the future, it would be less to pick up. put the toilet in its own little room, so you dont stink up the entire bath room. nothing worse that a fart in a humid room. would you actually use the dining room. most people do not. game room. you can get covers for the pool table to make it a dining table. make sure that the room is big enough for the pool table and cues. nothing worse than hitting the wall behind you, and have a wet bar in there. sky lights in the upstairs bath, or a SOLA TUBE. there are plenty of other things as well. the finishes are where the money goes. you can skimp on fixtures and lights to keep the initial cost down and add them in later. like cheaper bath faucets, minimal lights in the garage. before you shoot me on that one, why pay for all of the lights you want for 30 years when you can pay for 2 lights for 30 years and add the others in a matter of hours later out of pocket. things like that can help keep the cost down. i have been designing large luxury homes for 10 years and there are a ton of little things that you can do to make that plan yours and not a stock plan. good luck. me and my old lady have been working on our plan for 3 years. good thing i dont need to move right away. jimbo

MSA type II body kit installation help needed:
JIM73240Z replied to Marty50's topic in Body Kits & Paint
There is some epoxy that you can get at the paint store that will bond the fg to the metal and is paintable. You would have a hard time getting it off once it is on. Sand paper or a dremel tool is you friend with these pieces. jimbo -
plus if you do happen to get into an accident, the insurance company will weigh everything on the trailer and if you are over the weight of the trailer, you are generally liable for the whole thing. i was going to get a trailer last christmas but did not end up getting one (for $ issues). the trailer is 2000# plus a car (2100#) plus stuff (200#) is close to 4500# gvw. that is above the gwv of the trailer. the way they explained it to me is the trailer plus whatever is on there is the they weigh it. 3500# gvw would mean that you could "legaly" only load a couple of dirt bikes on there. to get back on track though, if you drive nice, i see that you would have no problems with the honda. jimbo

thanks tony. it happend also when the temp was in the 80's. the exhaust reeks of gas too. i went out this morning and stood by the pipe and held a piece of paper behind the pipe and it was getting black from the exhaust. maybe running too lean. idk. jimbo -

JIM73240Z replied to JIM73240Z's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
nope. tuned header, 2 1/2" pipe with a 36" glass pack. been like that for 3-4 months. just started doing it with no changes that i made. ???? jimbo -
just started on friday. start the car up and it sounds like it is muffled too much like there is a bannana in the exhaust. then after 30 sec or so it clears up like normal. drive around and then it sounds like fire crakers or m-80s are in the back of the car. pop. pop. this goes for 30 sec or so. no noticable difference between easy throttle or harder throttle. after it is done, i can hot rod it around or grand mother it for the rest of the trip. wtf. the temp has gone down here in the phx area. like mid 60's for the lows. ????? any ideas. jimbo

im with ya. for the nasa hpde, "its not a race", at least that is what they pound into us but it sucks getting passed by everything. i have a 2+2 which is worse than yours. the only thing that i hang with is an old stripped out rx7 with slicks. i get passed by everything else. vettes are about 400 rwhp and weigh roughly 3300# = 8.2# per hp. for a z to do that you need about 300 rwhp, very easy to get to with a turbo. plus you weigh less so you can brake later. this would get you to drag race the vette down the straight. you can out brake but it may out handle the z. plus driver ect. at least it gets you in the passing game. jimbo

My step son is book smart. 17 yrs old, jr in college. Working on a engineering degree to be a structural engineer. Try to get him to understand street concepts is an entirely different thing. In no way is he able to do most simple tasks that one does in life. Can not figure out a bus schedule to get around. What is so hard about that. Yes it takes all kinds and i am another one that tends to gravitate away from the book smart people to the street smart people. Both are just as smart as the other but one can APPLY what they have learned, and they usually learned from trial and error at their own expence. When your money is on the line, you tend to learn the correct way rather quickly. The apprentise had the "Street smarts vs the Book smarts" season and i remeber Trump getting on one of the street people because he said there is nothing wrong with a college education. Your right, however, if you cannot apply what you have learned in college, what good are you? jimbo
