  1. Nice.I'm feeling that bumperless look. What type of front clip is that?Looks good!
  2. I was thinking about the same thing in my 71 Z.I've got a TPI 350 2bolt out of a 89 Trans Am GTA.Could I use the stock flywheel/clutch and bellhousing from the original T-5 for the T-56?
  3. I'm almost at the stage for rim selection, and I was going to look into mounting the GTA style wheel.16x8.1987-1992.I believe these are the same bolt pattern as the IROC rims from the Camaro.Anyone have any advise as to the hub adapters to make this work?Ive got sectioned (1.5 inches)strut tubes, coilovers with illuminas, and the Toyota front brake upgrade.Help would be appreciated immensly!
  4. heres a couple photos of mine, hope it helps.passenger side mig welded to the T/C supportinside 2x3 tubular steel .125 thick
  5. I've got a 71 (October production date) and mine is stitch welded with the seam sealer as well, from the factory.
  6. To thy lord of rear meats,I worship thee! More pics, more pics, more pics!
  7. Hey Muspuppis,I've got a the same welder, with the argon hookup.I usually set it on the B setting, wirefeed at about2.5,and the gas at around 20 psi with the argon gas for the sheetmetal.leaves a good penetrating bead.If it's on outer panels(quarter panels, etc)stitchweld, let cool, and finish your bead.Sheetmetal warps easily from too much heat!C setting, wirefeed at around 3,for the gasless for the thicker stuff(1/8"subframe connectors, etc.)don't forget to change the leads on the inside of the unit when switching from gas to gasless! The only advice I can give is prep the surface completely, and practice on some scrap until you get the used to the unit,This is a novice talking,But if you practice, you'll lay some strong penetrating welds in no time.Stock up on grinding pads and cutoff wheels too.Good luck!
  8. Just laughing at Muspuppis's post!:biggrin:Looks real good though.Anyone have a photo of a clean TPI install?
  9. That rubs that the Z isn't preforming, but keep in mind the others that aren't as far along, are still using your platform as an example,so keep us posted!
  10. I posted with a weekend driver/substantually stronger fix.I am out of my league with the posts presented here. But it is in the catergory in'while I'm at it'relm,Oboy,I'm in for a bigger project than I annticipated:ugg:....keep 'em comin'!
  11. Argon gas is a must.especially for the thin stuff.Pratice on some scrap for a while,it'll save you alot of grinding wheels!Did you install subframe connectors while you were at it?Are they under the floorboards?Ground clearances?Keep it up!http://memimages.cardomain.net?member_images/1/web/2101000-210199/2101023_12.jpg
  12. Ihear ya cyrus, most of my mods I'm doing to my 240Z I got from 240hoke,use the search function on whatever you dreamed of doing, and chances are someone did it sometime. You'll crap your pants how much info is on this site!Good luck!
  13. I hope it works but instead of the plates,I was going to use some scrap 1/8" 2x3 tubing from my subframe connectors, cut one side out to make a "U",slip it over the existing frame rail, weld her in,drill the holes, and use the 2 nuts/threaded rod idea.Should be plenty strong.
  14. Hope you have a powerplant to turn those meats!:burnout:Post some before and after pics for the unfortunate ones that aren't at that stage yet:cry:Good luck!
  15. You guys ever used a paint on bedliner calleed Herculiner?Pros and cons whould be greatly appreciated!
  16. Update if you've got the time(I'm still looking for the bed in the Z,because you must sleep in that garage with all the work you've done in a relatively short amount of time!)Yea those dogleg patch photos will sure come in handy. And I've got not 1,but 2 to do!I'm also using your fuel cell fab as reference as well.Question:Where did you mount the battery and the fuel pump? That looks like the same size cell as mine,Summit 20 gal?If you have any more photos that would save me some serious configuration time hopefully.BTW,If you're going to paint that hood,I'll paint mine blue and we can trade!:biggrin:That thing is gonna look killer!
  17. Thanks fellas!I"ve got an aluminium 20 gallon fuel cell from summit, and I was going to fab a recessed tray for the battery next to it.I didn't want to start cutting the rear of the car until I finished the firewall and the subframe connectors just for structural integrity.I was hoping for possibly some tips on the pros and cons on mounting the battery next to the cell.I was planning to use a battery box similar to the one on my speedboat,so inclosure is already in the master plan.I was also thinking of a smaller cell for space saving reasons, but if I lay it out right,I just might have the room for exaust.I've done hours of searches on cells, rear mounting of the battery, fuel pump location, etc.gobs of useful information.Anymore info including past threads would be greatly appreciated! The elusive question I'd still like to know is:Has anyone with a cell used the stock filler location?Any pics? Thanks Hybrids!
  18. Thank the Z gods my rear quarters are solid! Beautiful job!How much time do you have wrapped up in that little project?
  19. Thanks for the support and info fellas!I just saw Austin's progress on his Z,and I almost want to go back in the garage instead of typing!Anyway I'd thought I'd share some photos of my progress... Here's the template for the curved part of the engine compartment fenderwell,go figure! inside the engine compartment... fenderwell, firewall, and subframe connector welded up with a nice and thick coat of 'rust bullet' shot from inside, with firewall, and floorpans patched and a thick steel pad for the future rollcage... one more shot of the floorpan patch, subframe connector, and rollcage pad.I think there's more 'rust bullet'on my hands than on the Z!Again thanks for the support Hybrids!Hopefully these photos will help someone that is in the middle of their project!
  20. All I'll add is BADASS!:rockon:I check out your site almost daily,Austin.Inspirational.You lucky dog!Nice job!
  21. Nice job!I want to see that Z throw some smoke on your next video!
  22. Ouch! Got to stop doing dounuts in the parking lot!I'm currently replacing sections of floorboards, firewall, basically all the thin stuff, and the mig is the only way to go.Practice, practice, practice! Also, you might want to search "subframe connectors" a few guys have some decent writeups and pics replacing the whole frame rail.Good luck!
  23. Thanks for the input fellas!quite a few ideas that will definately influence my plans(since I'm about 1/2 way through the repair)I removed a section of the original frame rails and (I know you guys aren't going to believe this!)I found some surface rust inside. The question is,I've searched for products like POR15,Pickle,and the like,I'd like some opinions on personal preferences, and maybe something like what products work with different applicators,(brush, bug sprayer type((to possibly get a good coat down those framerails)),etc. Thanks!
  24. Hey Zadman, those meats are sticking way out of the wheelwells! That Z has got one mean stance!what type of set up do you have under that body?Tires?Looks killer!
  25. Hey fellas, new to Hybrids here!Got to mention off the bat, this site is not only inspirational,it's almost a necessity!good job!Anyway,i searched for battery tray rust and fabrication, and didn't come up with many pics,so I thought I'd share a couple of my fix. cut fender well, can see 'Pete Paraska'style subframe connectors clamped up inside shots firewall I'll post more pics as I progress any input, opinions, would be greatly appreciated. As you can see I'm a novice, and at the early stages of the resto, planning the stages for the v8 swap,(TPI 350 out of a 89 GTA got it!:rockon:Got the JTR manual, but I thought I'd start with the rust and the frame strenghtening aspects first.Got to hurry, scheduled to go for cage work'Mat73GNZ'style in November!I think that will do it in regaurds to the major strenghtening part.Any tips? Also,I've posted this question before, does anyone have any pics of a fuel cell with the filler neck going to the stock location or possibly behind the emblem?
