Too funny! Why even bother with the open face helmet?Maybe his beer soaked t-shirt is made of kevlar.....
  4. The stock rims and tires make it easier to maneuver in my garage....Man I've got to get my Z running.....I like the hands on info,It'll make my choice easier when that time arrives.Keep the posts coming on this topic.
  5. Just noticed,Man those stock front bumpers are HUGE! What a difference...
  6. I used to own an'87 GTA Trans Am almost the same color(a little darker) chocolate brown metallic with the gold honeycolm rims, brings back memories.....although that red looks killer too,BTW...nice job!
  7. That's a Z?From the amount of time and $ involved, you probably could have bought an Aston from Bond himself....
  8. Not to switch the subject bjhines, but those rims look very similar to 3rd gen Trans Am GTA honeycolm rims I was planning to run on my Z.Mind sharing some info on those?Wheel dimentions?Mounting?By the way,I think BFGoodrich is having a sale on some off road tires.....
  9. I've always loved the S30 Z's,but I owned an '87 GTA Trans Am for 11 years and loved it.Went through the engine/suspension upgrades, etc.$$ and more$.Thought I'd have that car forever....Until the girlfriend wanted me to get something more reliable....Now I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which I simply call 'The Chrysler Product'.The girlfriend is now an ex,and with my '71 Z,I'm looking to incorporate a few things from the 3rd generation Firebirds,a TPI 350 for starters. Can't wait to get it running.....For the $$$,can't go wrong with the Firebirds/TA's IMO.
  10. Enjoy it first, then let your garage have it for a couple years.....
  11. Sorry to stray off topic alittle, but has anyone done an all braided line install?Cost effectiveness?Manner of securing the lines?Photos?
  12. I've got a couple 1/10 scale nitro cars, but these look like a blast! If they make an S30 car,I wouldn't hesitate to open the wallet....
  13. I've got a roll of quarters...at least I'll feel like my Z is actually drivable.....
  14. I should get one for my dirty *** girlfriend.....
  15. I did my engine compartment (sandblasted, treated with naval jelly per instructions,3 coats Rust Bullet,3 coats Herculiner)and believe I made a HUGE mistake. The surface is impermeable, and tough as nails, but the surface is way too rough, attracts dirt, making it way too hard to keep clean.A top coat to smooth the surface somewhat would be ideal,I was thinking a urethane paint, since Herculiner is a urethane based product.I've been looking into a boat paint called Brightside by Interlux. But am not sure if it will breakdown from the engine compartment heat.Any suggestions?
  16. Ask for old/build progress photos if possible.Bring a fairly weak magnet to check for bondo, fiberglass fixes, etc.I like to bring a small flashlight.Even on a sunny day or a well lit garage, getting a direct light source on closely inspecting areas, esp. undercarriage, really helps out quite a bit.Be on the lookout for fresh and/or thick undercoating....
  17. I am seriously digging the 'hurricane' style rims. Any info on your wheel choice?
  18. The only way I'd go up there,is if they let me sit on a sponge big enough to soak up all that urine.
  19. I wouldn't care if it was pink polka dots.Still my dream car......
  20. Makes me want to install a Harley V-twin in my little sister's pink powderpuff bicycle......
  21. That Herculiner is some tough stuff.I gave the angle grinder a try,but once it heats up,it clogs the sanding disks almost instantly.I'll give the Corner Cat(palm sander)a go,but almost anticipating the same result. Can't hurt though. The surface after waxing was shinier and more slick, but the surface is still way too rough a texture.Question on my last post:(obviously coming from a paint novice:confused2 )Aren't most auto clearcoats mostly a polyurethane product?Since the surface is textured, instead of spraying, brushing coats probably wouldn't leave noticable brushmarks, also I would think adherence poly to poly would be ideal.I'd apply several thin coats for buildup, with a light scuff sand between, eventually making the surface a little smoother.Again, just a thought from someone basically teaching myself autobody, but seems feasible.Any thoughts, opinions, recommedations, welcome, and anticipated!
  22. Wax didn't have any effect, other that put a little shine on it!:icon12:Still way too rough.A couple brushon applications of some type of thicker clear/sealant would do it to fill some of the voids,I'm just not sure of some of the auto paint products out there in regaurds to consistency, adherence ability, etc.Herculiner is made up of a polyurethane paint, with rubber granules added. I'm beginning to think I've made a costly mistake on my engine compartment:icon_frow .....Any other possible methods?or recommended products?
  23. This post is pretty old,but is there a product I can use to 'smooth' out the bedliner?Thick clearcoat, gelcoat? As it is,it seems to attract dirt in the crevises, and is impossible to keep clean.
  24. I was looking more along the lines of a thicker topcoat to fill the roughness somewhat, rather than a solvent to break it down.I may try it,but hopefully there's a way around it.I think POR15 makes a coating called Glisen PC that may work.Anyone work with this POR product?Any other suggestions? Thanks!
