BRAAP, 1 fast Z, think you guys can manage this?
thehelix112 replied to Xnke's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Having met the Baz personally a couple of times, I can say that he loves what he does, and is no different than every other car enthusiast out there: Hes proud of what he accomplishes and might be guilty of over-talking the possibilities beyond the reality. I know I'm guilty just as much. Baz is a nice bloke, very willing to share his knowledge and experience. That being said, I'll believe it supports 245 when I see a dyno printout. And not one of them fang-dangle DynoJet POSs. Dave -

Can I ask why you are attached to the idea of a direct injection engine? I don't have any info to back it up, but I thought the idea was to have better control over both where the fuel goes in the chamber, and exactly when, but the overall purpose was closer to fuel economy and emissions than out-right power. Am I mistaken? You don't see F1 engines with direct injection? In fact, they have the injectors outside the trumpets IIRC. Dave

12" coilover springs for street/strip
thehelix112 replied to Doug71zt's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Cary, I assume you're referring to the fact that the suspension system has no effect on the amount of weight tranfer that happens? I am relatively confident that the suspension system does have a pretty large influence on how the total transfer is applied. I'm not a mecheng, but from my limited understanding, the stiffer the suspension, the faster the transfer occurs. While I know next to nothing about tyre loads, or drag racing, it would seem that if you are asking the tyre to give you longitudinal force, whilst it is in the midst of deforming horribly due to a large shock load, it might just say `no'. 12" coilover springs for street/strip
thehelix112 replied to Doug71zt's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'm guessing its a very fine line you're walking, and as johnc would point out, everything is a compromise. If you go with long-travel, very soft springs, then you are gaurunteed a lot of camber change during launch, which at a guess, will reduce grip. If you go with limited compression suspension on the rear, you run the risk of overloading the tyre's and reducing grip also. Maybe a potential solution is to run 15s with larger sidewalls, let the tyre deal with the compression, and keep the suspension you have for now. Dave -
If you're going for reaccelleration, which I assume to mean response and reducing lag, you'd be better of looking at getting a ECU with flat-shifting and anti-lag IMHO. Dave

I love how the people invested in a big single always bag out twins. Sounds like a case to me of: if I've got it, its the best. That being said, the biggest (only?) potential benefit offered by a twin turbo setup, as I understand it anyway, involves interaction of the exhaust pulses. You only have three pulses joining together in a collector, so immediately you have less opportunity for reversion in non-firing runners. The cons are well known: - extra weight - extra cost - extra complexity - less room to work Of course, you can make a turbo manifold with two collectors, one for each set of three cylinders, that ends in a divided pulse flange. Which is what I was lucky enough to score. Did I mention the syndrome that whatever you have is automatically the best? Dave

Wow. That looks beautiful dude. Can't wait to see it in action. Dave

Just wanted to let you guys know of a place to get the P30-0032 bilsteins: http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=21&products_id=1995 They're not a technical shop workshop by any means, but they're the cheapest I found, and have good customer service. I brought 4 shocks from them, and upon delivery found one was missing its boot, the allen key on the end of the piston was corroded, no instructions etc etc. I shipped it back to them and they shipped me a new one no questions asked. Might be worth a shot for you guys.

Home Made Control Arms

Looking good Myron! Dave -

That looks far too close to the strut tower brace. Doesn't the engine rotate towards it on acceleration? Dave
-
Looking good Ash! I think, there would be some aerodynamic benefit in cutting away the rear of the flares, so the are behind the wheel can escape freely. Please post some vids when you get her onto PI. Dave

That intercooler looks like an ARE one. And the car sounds freaking nuts! Dave

Can't recall if this has been posted before, but an old Zed racer in Melbourne showed me this trick years ago and I just did it to my 280Z here. Just replace the stretched leather strap over the top of the diff with chain wrapped in 1" ID rubber/vinyl tube. All done in under 2 hours in the driveway. Dave

I ran a SC14 on my stock L28ET engine for a year and a half. Used a VT commodore power steering pulley. Made 5psi with that pulley, but you can overspin them with different sized pulleys. I bought it as a kit, but the bracket to make it fit was pretty simple Dave

Jon, I have a 280z in the states. Really should update my signature. The female threaded carrier as a tapered end that goes down to 50mm. This bit will fit inside the top of a sectioned 280z strut, and with removing the inner bit such that the entire component can fit in and out, I plan on welding that carrier to the top of the strut, as opposed to ordering an A1 nut, and sourcing 240z tops. Would this be bad for any reason? Dave
-
Hey, I ordered mine from http://www.mjmautohaus.com/, and they have come with two things, B30-629-Q1 as mentioned, but also a female threaded thing into which the 629-Q1 screws with B30-627-B1 stamped on it. Here is a pic of the two. The 627-B1 also has the seal on the strut piston tube, however, surely two are not required? If only one is required, I will be drilling/grinding/whatevering out the centre of this one, and welding the B1 to the top of the cut down strut for the Q1 thread to screw into. Thoughts? Dave

Wilwoods, AZC VS JSK

Jon, You make a good point. Thankfully I haven't got wheels yet, I was planning on getting the sportmax 002s. Anyone here have them that could comment. Been looking through the entire sportmax002 group buy thread looking for a picture of the inside. Will get back to that. Dave
