  1. I thought Cosworth only modified the Vega? You may be confusing the two. Anyway, speaking of Cosworth, I'd actually REALLY like to put a screamy V8 into a 190E Mercedes and buy the Evolution bodykit for it. You can buy them on the cheap because their engine is generally garbage, and they have that cool German 80's boxy sedan cool factor to them...if that's your thing.
  2. Not to trash your thread or anything, but have you considered a fiberglass hood? They are quite a bit cheaper and not a whole lot heavier. If you just want the cf loook you can always get a wrap for it too. Just throwing ideas at ya.
  3. Yeah. They are a little more rare than Z cars, but far from impossible to find. They are definitly in the SERIOUSLY under appriciated car category, so most people who have them don't take great care of them much like Z cars. But just keep an eye on Craigslist and E-bay. I nearly bought one a year ago for 500 bucks with intentions of throwing a 22REt into it...but I bought a Z instead.
  4. Gen 1 Celica. Baby Mustangs need V8's.
  5. You could always paint/powder coat your trim black. Several people have it done it. It looks pretty damn good from the pics I have seen.
  6. Arn't you worried about rocks and other debris flying up and hitting your fuel line?
  7. I wouldn't trust that 280 as far as I could throw it. Those flares arn't meant for that car. You can check it out, but I'd be sceptical
  8. 56 Thunderbird, or a Ferrari 250 California, or a Mercedes 190E EVO, or a BMW M1, or a Lamborghini 300GT... ...or ya know... 240z ain't bad
  9. To my knowledge I don't think BMW has changed their bolt pattern on their bellhouses for damn near 20 years now. The BMW Z4 at least used to run the M54 before it switched to the N52, however the transmission never really changed (who manufactured it might have debateably). This means your manual transmission options are pretty open. If you wanted a 5 speed your best bet is to find one from a 328I or E36 M3. They are cheap, all over the place, and very smooth. You could get one out of an E36 325I, but it's not as good of a transmission. 6 speeds you pretty much have 2 options. You can get the Getreg 217 out of a BMW E46 330I ZHP, a Z4 3.0i/is, or any of the E90's (however these are hard to find with most a-holes opting for auto's) You can also get the Getreg 226 out of an E46 M3. It's your strongest bet. The motor you have is making about 230 at the crank, however the same engine in an X3/5 makes about 30 more horsepower, but I don't know what the difference is. It's a really light engine though, and would suit a Z perfectly as far as I can tell. EDIT: Oh yeah, and if you're going to use the factor EMS for the Bimmer engine, you'll need the key from that specific car, and the ignition switch as well to deal with the ews. Either that or you'll have to run a standalone ems.
  10. Epoxy painting your garage floor is awesome. You can spill oil on it and it'll sit there for days at a time until you clean it up without soaking in. It also looks much better than bare cement and will help hold it together so you won't get cracks. I'd recommend it. I'd also definitly recommend some sort of ventilation that can move air around. I'd definitly make sure to put up nice insulation in the garage too. A/C is going to be expensive though because it's going to have to constantly be fighting the terrible insulation factor of the garage door, and that when you open up the door, a ton of heat will come rushing in. If you have the ability to do geo-thermal heating and cooling, I'd do that. You'll save on electricity and technically it's a "green" thing to do so you might be able to get a tax break.
  11. Flares look great if you have the right wheels and tires for them. With 17x9.5's in the rear, it should probably look really good. If you're using smaller wheels and tires though, it usually just looks dumb. If you're kinda worried about resale value, possibly look into some less agressive molded flares as apposed to the ZG bolted on kind. Not everyone likes the ZG look, but most people appriciate a wider stance.
  12. Do you want the regular L28 that came out of a 280z, or the L28et out of a 280zx? How much power are you looking for? How much are you looking to spend? Are going to do the swap yourself, or just buy one that already has the engine swapped over? Are you just looking for something fun to drive around, or a weekend racecar? Because your price range is anywhere from 750 dollars to around 30,000 dollars depending on what you're looking for.
  13. Make sure you have plenty of light, and plenty of electrical outlets too. If you're going to be running a welder that runs off of a different voltage other than 120, make sure you not only have that plug wired in, but in a spot that is going to be condusive to welding. Oh and the POR-15 or whatever floor coatings are awesome!
  14. None of that has anything on Uncle Bernie wanting to LITERALLY spray water all over the course randomly every race to make them more exciting.
  15. I live in Hillsboro. Currently I just drive my Sentra as my Z is in a "few" pieces. Hey I saw you wanted some SU carbs a bit ago, I've got a whole L24 that I could sell you if you want.

  16. Hey Portlander! whats up? its cool to see a local on this site.

what part of town are you in? what do you drive?

  17. What method did you use to get it in? Clever or brute force? Or a combination of the two?
  18. Go test drive a brand new BMW 335d and then wreck it! Then run away and make sure to give them false info as to who you are. Then follow the car to the autowreckers and buy the engine INSTANTLY! Then you will have the coolest diesel ever created by a man.
  19. You could spread them apart using a chunk of allthread and two nuts. ==|}==={|=== Place the nuts in the middle of the arms and then turn them to spread them apart.
  20. Yes it does, and I'll give you 100 dollars for it!
  21. Why don't you just cut a hole in the hood for the turbo?
  22. Seriously, it's not even a competition between Prime and anyone else.
  23. Yeah that's one way to waste an engine on a car that easily weighs damn near twice as much as a Z... My dad has a 280SL in the R107 body style and it probably makes pretty similar power to an L28, and it's not what I'd call fast by any means. A much better swap is a Ford 302 into those things so it can actually go somewhere.
  24. and If only my budget was 8 thousand dollars larger and I wasn't scared of electronics...
  25. Ok, so you're doing a full re-build. I didn't know exactly where you planned on going with this one. Oh yeah, and I've been meaning to ask you This is what an axle out of an E32 750il looks like. The ones in the E34 525i and a few other older Bimmers look similar just with varying CV joint size and axle thickness. Anyway, I was wondering if you know if these axles could be shortened or not? If they can, it would only take some pretty easy to fab brackets to get cv axles under our cars.
