I think a S15 dash would look badass. Now to get the HUD to work would be sweet with the 240's dash. That looks really clean looking though but wrapping the stock dash and door panels in black suede would be nice in my book.

The motor is just set in there. I was just checking to see what kind of issues I would run into mounting it. If you notice the engine is sitting in there kinda crooked. I just tossed it in there to see what it'll look like. It's not light but I lifted it out of the back of my wife's minivan when I got it home. The same way you see it now as a complete longblock with nothing removed. Now try to do that with V8 and make sure you have a phone close by to call 911 and your chiro. lol.

Well not much of an update besides I picked up a turbo shortblock for some old wheels I had two weeks ago. Then picked up some EVO8 pistons and cams for dirt cheap. Pistons will go right in but my 1G rods need to be worked alittle as the EVO wrist pins won't fit. Just the same as putting 2G pistons on 1G rods. Factory forged pistons for 85 shipped and then 60 for the machine work from Mr Weir. But here's a little visual teaser... Dixies chicks don't know nothing about wide open spaces... I could fit my entire forearm from the radiator support to the motor mount which is still another two inches to the block. Feels like I'm working on my old civic again with so much space in the engine bay. 50/50... stock thermostat housing still fit and no oil pan clearance problems as I'm about an inch or two behind the crossmember only issue I met so far was the oil filter want to sit right where stock passenger side engine mount is. No biggy though cause it's coming out I'm making new mounts to sit further back on the frame rails. T4 60-1 clears and no issues should arise with the downpipe or chargepiping besides moving the alternator to the otherside of the block and ditching the power steering pump. Moving the alternator isn't that hard as they make a bracket to do that right now.

I'm buying my bellhousing tomorrow and asked him about the status on the Evo bellhousing. That would make the down pipe alittle easier as it would exit the driver side instead of the passenger side my 4G63 will be.
-
the Bill Hincher, the fabricator of the bellhousing is also working on a bellhousing for the new 4G Evo motor(timing belt on passenger side). There's been numerous 1000hp version of these engines. I think he was gonna use the Gegtrag 6spd 2JZ tranny. Now that would be a badass setup. You can find those engines on ebay for around 2-3g's. But then that's usually the whole swap so finding just an engine for cheaper would be nice but not seen too often.
-
It's still more money I had laying around not to mention finding parts is still cheaper. Not to mention if it blows, 4G engines are a little easier on the check book then a 1J or 2G non turbo or not.
-
^^ Hahaah I was just about to say that. Those there's just something about that car I don't like. It think it's got too much going on.

Picked this up just before.... Now time to start tearing it down and get this thing ready for some business. You guys know of anyway to get the surface rust off besides taking it to a machine shop to have it hot tanks or blasted? Thinking of picking up just a wire wheel or two for my drill and just go to town with it and then just put a new coat of paint on it. Hopefully this week I can order my bellhousing if I sell like two more of my old Z parts I'll be go but the more the better!
-
I thought it was pretty self descriptive of my feeling toward that ancient iron lump. Darn thing broke my skateboard engine dolly hauling it out of the garage. lol.
-
Well the Z has never been shown on here before. So here she is but not in her finest hour. Well I popped the headgasket on the stock L28E last summer and already had the stuff to fix it...and boost it. But aftermarket parts for it are harder to find and pricey and honestly. I just hate the engine. Sooooo...I've been trying to decide what to swap into it with the knowledge I have and money. I was looking at a 1JZ cause a 2JZ is mad loot just like a Rb25 or 26. But still was kinda pricey. Plain and simple I wanted a 4 cylinder and that was it. Stick with what you know right. Now it was a toss up between a SR20DE....yes I said a DE because there is a adapter plate made that allows FWD SR20's to bolt onto the stock Z's drivetrain. This would of made the swap very easy but SR parts are kinda pricey still. So what else but a 4G63T. I found a local 6 bolt longblock for 350 and the harness for an additional 50 bucks. Then to buy the bellhousing from http://www.billsautofab.com for 275 that allows you to bolt on a W55/58 Toyota 5spd onto the 4G and using all stock mitsu and yota parts. Only machine work that needs to be done is to have some material machined out of the flywheel to accept a pilot bearing. MK2,3,4 supras and a couple other models. Stuff you can find in any junkyard that has a good supply of Yotas. Now you ask why go from a 2.8 6 clyinder to a 2 liter 4 cylinder? Well start off at the technology of the L28E...60's design with the addition of early fuel injection...not to mention this engine weighs like a ton. Secondly, the 46G3T is already rated 30 horsepower more for being almost 1 liter smaller and 2 pistons less. Also the 4G is 150 lbs less and will make the Z a mid engine car as it can be mounted behind the front wheels. What isn't better about this engine then the stock 280's engine? NOTHING! Now with the 4G I'll just be using the stock turbo ecu and harness to make things easier and cheaper Then I'll run an SAFC for tuning needs! Hack off one end of the intake manifold as the throttle body faces the firewall. Then finally bust out my TIG and fab up a manifold for my T4 60-1 originally for the L28. So tomorrow I'll have the 4G and just waiting on selling some left over parts to buy my bellhousing and away we go! In her better days So...Good bye and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out! I did I mention I like doing swaps on the most hottest days of the summer and in flip flops. *** admin warning, picture removed due to tastless content*** only took me about two hours. Most of the time trying to get the engine and tranny out in one piece. yeah the support beams in my garage are only about 7 feet above ground so that doesn't leave me much clearance room with my lift. Something that came in the mail thursday. Originally it was bought for the Galant VR4 but it's a little on the bigger size and it looks better here anyways. Measures 31x12x3 and weighs like 2 tons. lol. original IC as the turbo and the intake manifold were both on the same side. Now this will get put into the Galant. If not sold to fund this project now. hahahah Engine picks tomorrow. This is not mine but just some pics of what the 4G63 with bellhousing and yota tranny look like. more to come....

I like the black with the dark grey/gunmetal bumper, flares, rear spoiler and wheels.

I wonder how this would sound on a car!

I have a Yoshimura slip-on for a Blackbird and the the pipe is 2.5" going into the muffler but then again the engine is like 1100cc's. I'm thinking of using it on my L28ET as I only spent 40 bucks on it. If I could find another just like it I'd run two side by side. -
I guess it's just matter what type of seat your looking for? Some like a sporty oem style seat or an aftermarket style seat? I know alot of the Kirkey seats look to have a higher back. Though I've always like this seat but not sure if how it'd work with a harness. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1512,147_Kevlar-High-Back-Seat.html

Vildini cradle vs whitehead performance

What are the prices on these cradles cause I can't find it on either of their websites? -
I'd say just find a shell.
-
I think I got my 3" vbands even cheaper. Like 20 shipped on ebay. Just gotta look around.
-
The wastegate is set to open so high that it needs four gauges to read that high. lol. Once it pegs one then the next one takes over and so on. hahahaah
-
Maybe find someone to make an adapter plate or custom bellhousing to use the RB26DETT tranny. Then you'd have to do some modifying to your oilpan as the front driveline goes right through it. Not to mention I think it's gonna make your engine sit further ahead. I just think it's a waste of time. Stick with what works.
-
If you scroll down you'll see my 4G63 thread I started a few days ago. I think it's a better choice then the newer 4G's that come in the evos. I'd just find a 6 bolt 4G63 motor or hell do a 2.4L conversion. I wouldn't even touch a 7 bolt no matter how cheap you can get it for.

Anyone use a custom turbo setup like this?
dosquattro replied to TravRMK's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Ah man that ain't nothing on that site. Hence the name...homemadeturbo.com... I love that site and been a member there for a couple of years now. PVC gets a bad rep I think. I've used it before and never had a problem with it. Now for something under like 10psi I don't see any problems along with the home depot rubber couplers either. Just under high boost is when they start popping. Yeah it's pretty honda dominated but you still see some different stuff and just good all around forced induction information. Hell a site with a fab/porn section says it all. Oh you have to be a member to see that. Nothing like tiggin' and titties. -
The Buschur mounts I believe are for mounting a 4G into a Starion/Conquest from what I "heard". The mounts they made to mount it into that older BMW 3series were pretty simple. He pretty detailed on installing everything. Give a gander.. http://b18c5.org/eric/bmw/
-
I guess it's how close you want it to the firewall as like you said the thermostat housing points out the rear and the CAS is pancake flat so I wouldn't see an issue with that. Just making a new housing would be fairly simple. I think using a 4G64 block from a mid 90's galant would be a nice setp also with .4L of added displacement. You could still call your S30 a 240Z cause a 200Z just don't sound right. lol. I'm almost tempted to just stop working on the L28 and start on this setup. I've got a Galant VR4 already so it'd be nice having another 4G in my Z.

Just got this back from the maker of them. "I just used an 87 Toyota truck set up witha Mitsubishi pressure plate, the bellhousings sell for $275.00"
-
Don't get me wrong either...the F20/F22C is a great engine but in a S30..just don't think it's the greatest engine for it as the best bang for the buck. I don't think I've ever heard of the engine running on anything else beside AEM EMS which is a pretty big chunk of change. Not to mention the engine is still pretty pricey since it's still relatively new. I just got a reply back from the maker of the bellhousing and it's really cheap at just 275. Just Toyota stuff for the tranny and then a mitsu FWD flywheel and pressure plate. I think I know what's going in next and time to start piecing stuff together. Thank god 4G's are cheap even for a turbo longblock. Even 2.4 stroker setups are available for them..be it a 4G64 oem type setup or a company like Crower setup.

Best Bang for the Buck (2 engine choice's)

Go with the SR. Parts are everywhere for them.
