  1. Mike/Matt, Didn't realize you guys were going to be at the Chumpcar race this weekend. It would have been nice to visit for a few. I was probably standing right next to Mike while talking to Peden and didn't even know it since we've never met in person. Fortunately our team breezed through tech inspection, but our E30 motor blew about an hour into the race (we did 19 laps). We had moved up to 13th place (from 30th) when I believe the block or head cracked. We pulled the head and there was no apparent damage to the head gasket. Tonight we pull the motor and start the rebuild process. We hope to have it together and sorted by the end of May for Daytona.
  2. Looks good, Matt. I'm guessing the car won't be ready in time for Barber? Unfortunately I'm not going to make it either.
  3. Arrrgh! I planned a trip to Punta Cana the weekend of the Mitty. I guess I won't make it this year. Should have checked my calendar first. Also, I probably would have taken you up on the suit offer a year ago, but I just bought a pretty nice OMP suit.
  4. If you are still unsure about the relay, why don't you just jumper across terminals where the fuel pump relay connects? You can do that will a 3" piece of wire and two spade terminals. That will power everything that should have been powered by the fuel pump (assuming you don't have a blown fuse or fusible link upstream). If you still have a problem, you may have a blown injector fuse (or fuses), bad grounding, a bad tach signal to the ECU, or a bad ECU. If you have access to a spare ECU then you should be able to rule that out (or in) pretty quickly as well.
  5. The FSM did not originally come with the car. That would be the owner's manual. The FSM is the Factory Service Manual. It has much more detail on how the car works and how to troubleshoot and fix problems. If you search, you should be able to find scans. I thought I had a link in my favorites, but apparently I don't.
  6. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/99357-my-dream-ls7gtzproject-underway/page-9 Here's a pic of what Matt Isbell did to his before bending the bar and fabbing a new and improved one out of chromoly. I'm not making as much power as Matt, so I'm hoping this works for me.
  7. Technically it's not the rear LCA, but I think you get what I'm saying.
  8. I would highly advise drilling a hole in through the LCA support and LCA tube and then putting a bolt in said hole. You'll probably want to get pretty close on the rear wheel location under the fender first. If you do not do this, it will move on it's own and push your rear wheel out under acceleration. I say this from personal experience.
  9. Here's some pics of our car from Sebring. Also, I highly recommend buying the digital package from AWOL. They get a bunch of good pics at each event. http://www.awolphoto.smugmug.com/keyword/09292013-148#!i=2809176409&k=xsjZ4MP
  10. Mike, I'm going to be at AMP also. We are in Pit #5. We are driving a DTM painted E30. Hopefully we'll run into each other there.
  11. Indeed. Racecars is a broad subject. Exactly what are you shopping? Also, I just renewed my NASA membership. There's a 15% chance I'll be at Road Atlanta in two weeks.
  12. Also this might help. I know I'm being a smartass, but it really might. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=track+car+site%3Ahybridz.org
  13. Here are some ideas. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/63250-mike-kellys-zcar-project/?hl=%2Bmike+%2Bkelly http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/99357-my-dream-ls7gtzproject-underway/
  14. Matt, Sorry to hear about the failure, but I guess it's also progress. Now you know you have a weak link and have developed a plan to improve it. I'm interested.
  15. Nice video Matt. I was at a Chumpcar race at Nashville Superspeedway during the 1000 yr flood in May of 2010. I hydroplaned our Mustang on the trioval and across the grass into the pits. It was very interesting when the car just started turning on it's own and any input I gave it (gas, brake, steering, terror) made no change. I stopped facing the wrong way, turned around and went back out on the track. I was expecting a black flag, but I guess they were being lenient given the conditions. By the way, I was at AMP on Saturday and the weather was great. We were testing a 300ZX chumpcar. Unfortunately it really is a chumpcar and not a cheater, so we don't have much of a chance of winning at Daytona next weekend. If we can keep the car on the track, I think we should do pretty well (top 30 or better out of 120).
  16. Magnecor all the way. You can order whatever length you want and a set won't break the bank.
  17. I'm definitely interested in where this thread goes. Currently I've got an R200 CLSD from a 300ZX and Q45 outers from AZC. I cannibalized the outers from a Q45 and the inners from a 300ZX and had a custom splined shaft made at a local 4WD shop made to put the pieces together. It's going to suck if I break something, though.
  18. How are does your ignition module fire three separate outputs? You would have to have three separate firing reference points to do wasted spark. Are you using 3 Hall effect sensors?
  19. What NewZed was trying to say is that a standard coil fires 3 times per revolution in a 6 cylinder motor (more in an 8 and less in a 4), so at 6kRPM it is firing 18k times per minute. You are putting a wasted spark COP ignition system so it is firing 6k times per minute at 6k RPM on a 6 cylinder motor. 6k < 18k so an 'automotive' coil could work. Note that you only spark once per every 2 crank revolutions 'normally'. In wasted spark you fire once every revolution. Edit: fixed my math.
  20. The springs are stiff, but the ride's ok. I think it rides better than my other car with Tokico struts and Eibach springs. I have to admit that I was pretty shocked it all worked. I do have to run some 10mm spacers in the back due to running out of camber adjustment on the top. I pretty much just eyeballed the camber plate before welding it on and it probably could have stood to be a little further outboard.
  21. PS. These pics may have been before the alignment, but it looks basically the same as this. Also, we have a Chattanooga Region SCCA that does local autocross events.
  22. RebakahsZ, No problem, but I usually don't go out of my way to autocross in Nashville. If you are ever in the Chattanooga area, let me know. Here are a couple of pics.
