  1. well I am building it now to be a street car but I am keeping the stock springs if I ever do rally it. My new spring rates are 225Lb/in on the front and 250Lb/in rear. Really stiff and would kill my car on a rally. The stock 110lb/in. is a bit better.
  2. haha...funny fun to see the evos back in their game where they belong...off-road...
  3. thanks...I'm downloading the whole 53 megabytes right now...
  4. cool. Not too bad for a body noob like me...I need to do mine now...
  5. sweet! I had a3 month trial version of Solidworks aqnd am about to buy the student version for $120. I really like how you can make blueprints so easily from the rendering.
  6. the old clutch disc... the scorched pressure plate here is the kicker on my mystery header...I haven't seen one that makes such an abrupt turn from vertical to horizontal. it has realy good clearance and I haven't scraped it...I have scraped the not so well done y-pipe... another shot...you can see the small leak down there by the y-pipe here is my Z's cousin...built by Eddie Radatz...He did the interior on my car back in the early 90's...back when I started playing with legos...(notice the bottom of the front air dam...seem familiar jmortenson?) I could so see myself ripping down dirt roads...just need to modify the stock lower spring perches to fit over the coilover collars...stiff coils for the street and then stock ones to go rally racing. There is just not enough rally racing around here...just a lot of 4x4s and riced wrx's...
  7. MIG should be fine for a light weight car but be aware of things like Lamellar tears...not good. That type of joint shown at the top has the tendency to pull the grain of the steel apart. I have had a MIG weld pull a piece of 1/4 in steel into 2, 1/8 pieces of steel in that configuration in that section. Bad steel is out there...just to let you know. But if you weld it on both sides it should be better off.
  8. ok when I was about to buy my Z I was taking a picture iof the overflow jet or whatever on the SUs and this 1.5in. across black widow crawled infront of the camera. I was holding the camera about 3 in. from the carb for some reason and saw it on the screen and freaked out. Got some bug killer and hosed the entire engine down...lol
  9. bwahahaha...must have been a carpenter...it is actually not that bad...from the "build a bike for $100" book...lol
  10. ok so last night I removed the transmission(again) popped the old clutch off, took the flywheel off(some of it's bolts were loose) and installed the spec light weight 11 pound flywheel. The clutch install went pretty easily. Then, balancing the transmission on a regular jackstand lifted it back into the car around my very badly placed exhaust. This was my first time working on a clutch so I think it went good. The old oem clutch was all scarred up and the flywheel has lots of surface cracks in it and some small hot spots but not bad. The pressure plate had some hot spots and surface cracks on it my other uploading site is down right now so I'll use dropshots for this one.
  11. I have tried several things to clean it but there is years of nastyness all over it. What is a good way to clean the junk off?
  12. I think a z motor in a 4x4 datsun pickup would be sweet! maybe even an l28et...I would just notch the heck out of the firewall and try to kewep the motor as centered in the vehicle as possible. Then some dana 44s and 35" super swampers. You should get enough tickets from the P!NKS Z's motor and put that in the truck...
  13. I want those sidepipes on my Z!!! just have to notch the stock rockers...
  14. "ALL METAL WIDE BODY KIT (SAME AS THE PORSCHE 928)" "FLIP UP HEADLIGHT CONVERSION OFF A FIREBIRD" Someone wanted to do 944 fenders on a Z but I think the 928 stuff looks better. I don't like the flip ups but the rest is really cool. I think BMW headlights under that hood would look great rather than the flip ups.
  15. cool...I usually get "what is it?" or "what year is your Z?" or "when are you going to paint it?" lol on that last one. Drove it for two years in random stages of peeling black clearcoat or flat black... good luck on finishing your Z! and got to love the comments...

    new here

as I said...sweet stuff...and Imay take you up on the sticker...butI can't have a sticker on my car if I don't have any rusch motorsports stuff on my car...then I would be a ricer putting stickers of companies on my car that I don't use...I may just have to have the head on my car ripped off and shipped out to you to work over...not like I have the $$$$ I would have to have for you to do your best work...lol Then again I may have it sooner or later...
  17. hey J__ You always find the most random stuff...this and painting a car with a roller...which works very well.
  18. yes it is...and it seems to be even earlier than mine...the vertical overriders are even smaller than the later of the early 260s...or I could just be seeing things...Nissan was really messing with the 260's production. and for some reason everyone is getting Zs with the same louvers that I have. I used to think people had those other cheap looking ones. Now Mull has them with his Z...ON3GO has them...and someone else with a 260...
  19. the car is going to be flat black, the race is on the 19th (2 weeks), the show would air in 2.5-4 months. I think they should roll on a coat of flat black...it would be more even than rattlecans...have you finished painting the car yet? if not then I have a tool to donate...
  20. it's probably that your eyes are color blind instead of your monitor...lol but I guess your processor could be deaf...
  21. or that green 260 you were talking about?
  22. ok...I'll snap a couple pics...I think it is just two holes in the polyurethane...I'll just snap a few...
  23. I have soo wanted my Z to be a rally car one day...I think I am going to keep the stock springs and modify the lower stock perches so that they will fit on the coilover perches. just so I have a set of long soft springs. I kept the upper mount so I would just have to modify the lowers that I carefully cut off right above the weld.
  24. that would be good. you want to have the backspace to be as high as possible if you are using stock suspension. Like 4.5 in backspace on the rear. The tokicos should help keep the tire from bouncing up into your fender but you probably want some stiffer springs too. I think the euro springs would be fine.
