  1. Hmmm, wonder how hard it would be to make a new diff mount to mount it facing backwards. If you did that you could mount a motor where the tank used to be. Then you're left with the entire bay and tunnel for batteries.

Interesting thought.... but the ring & pinion will be running backwards. Not sure if diff integrity is the same in reverse. The off-road crowd would probably be able to answer that one.

  2. Any other brewers out there?

Use to be (extracts). Haven't brewed for close to ten years. I've forgotten most of what I didn't know, so I'm not one to offer anything useful

I still have most of the paraphernalia. I keep toying with the idea of starting up again... but life keeps getting in the way.

  3. You'll be putting a hell of a lot of stress on the entire rear end, halfshafts, diff, suspension, and even the wheel studs. Then also to keep your car sideways, you'll have to hold the engine at a higher RPM for a prolonged period of time with a big risk of revving it up too high when you're first learning to drift your car.

Granted, AutoXing and Drag racing also put a lot of stress on a motor, but most of that stress is going to be front to back, and some side to side shear, but cars werent exactly designed to be sliding sideways. When you put your car sideways it's going to create different shearing stress than the car is used to, or was designed to handle.

You can build your car to perform better as a drift car by upgrading to stronger parts, but understand, Drifters break stuff frequently.

Then again, so do drag racers and autocrossers.

I have no problems with drifting, I just have a problem with it can cost.

If you want to drift, more power to you, but I hope you've got a good source of income.

Are you suggesting drifting imposes more lateral stress than autocrossing? Surely not.

  4. Looks nice, also what year is that manifold off of?

I built that manifold roughly 13 years ago, so I'm afraid I don't recall the specific year. However, its just an NA 280zx manifold with a few hours of massage work. I realize you are asking about turbo manifolds, but the EGR mod. will be essentially the same regardless of aspiration.

  5. ANNNND, I see you got the Jobs Tuning EMS installed via blue-tooth. Now all you need is a router, an in car mailing address for billing, and an iTunes store account and you'll be downloading fuel and ignition maps by the dollar in no time!

...BRAAP's assimilation by the dark side is nearing completion :lmao:

  6. i went by the 3 rules of an engine running deal...Air, Fuel, Spark.

had fuel and spark, so yeah, that left air ;)

Your understating of the AFM couldn't be farther from the truth. Might want to take those books a little more seriously.

I'm not going to ask again... start using your shift key or I'll remove your posting privileges.

  7. and the engine management system will be run from iTunes, with individual spark and fuel maps for 0.99 cents from the iTunes store. again, apple setting a standard in everything... this time it's dyno tuning!

EDIT: Ron, they might be looking for distributors!

    :hijack:

EDIT 2: Steve Jobs just signed up as a driver for Formula None.

In my black pull-over & blue jeans... my monitor is bigger than yours

  8. its a 73.

    they don't?

Nope, no rear tie rods. Rear toe is not adjustable.

*If* the rear is significantly toed-in, something may be bent. Most shops will take "thrust" measurements (toe on each side, individually). What did the report say? If all the toe-in is 'on one side', that should help narrow your focus.

well when i had it tested for alignmment they said it was very badly pidgeon toed in the rear tires. but they couldn't adjust it because the tie rods were rusted too bad.

    I see four possible scenario's...

    1) You misunderstood what they said. If so, communication skills may need work :-)

    2) They actually said that, but have NO idea what they're looking at. If so, learn to check it yourself or take it to a different shop.

    3) They are taking advantage of you. If so, you cannot trust anything they are telling you. Either learn to check it yourself or take it to a different shop.

    4) Previous owner installed adjustable control arms. If so, posting a picture of the rear suspension will go a long way toward settling this.

1 & 3 are the most common, in my experience.

P.S. Do us all a favor and fix your shift key
