  1. Correct. L20B is taller and has 2 extra mounting bolts and the LD28 has a smaller crankshaft seal. I've swapped many between L24's and L28's.
  2. The bendix is stuck or the soleniod isn't doing the job of poping it out. Take it back it is an internal defect.
  3. Wow, could be quite afew things but I would start with wiring as well. Check your connections both positve and negatives. Make sure they are good and tight but take them off and clean them first. I have seen weakened relays do that but it's in rare cases. Your starter could also be stuck or dragging. You can take it off the car and supply it with fresh juice from the battery, only if it's properly strapped down. I'd just take it off and into an auto parts store that tests them (most do). They need to check amp draw as well as function. Most "normal" parts people just watches if it spins and that's it. But there is a guage on their machine that checks amperage draw and that needs to be checked. I'd say the motor could also be binding but that doesn't seem to be your case. Ignition switch can sometimes be a culprit but they just usually go out altogether. Best of luck.
  4. I'm running a factory pump still on mine. 30-35 psi was what I was getting. Now I just got mine back on the road again and had to "help" the pump out some. I hooked up the pump directly to a 12+v source (my booster box) it had some buildup and giving it more voltage helped it to clear it up. Now it seems to be working fine. If having to get another I would go aftermarket, I've seen lots of peeps using the walbro 255 with good success but I have no personal experience with it. Best of luck
  5. As my Z is my second vehicle, I took the AC system out. I had very few (normal actually) issues with installing intercoolers. I've even tested several different shapes and sizes with minimal plumbing problems. I only cut into my radiator support for the REALLY big one which I didn't use anyways because it was too big to offer any improvement. Bigger is not better when it comes to intercoolers.
  6. Those look good. I was considerng getting some as well but was unsure of how'd they look. Thanks for posting the pics. I'll get a set as well.
  7. Yea, those are great feelings. That's unfortunately my way of tuning. I do research to make sure it's feasible then try it and test. It's amazing the untapped potential you can unleash by the little things.
  8. Yep, either is fine. Red is the most common high temp gasket maker to use. And definately heed the warning of using too much. Just enough to coat the machined portions will be fine.
  9. It is the voltage regulator. There is a way to simplify the charging system but better left to someone that has done this before. It's common to run a GM one-wire altenator. Most auto parts places with a KNOWLEDGEABLE parts person will walk right to the shelf and get you one. Anyways try getting with a local shady tree mechanic and seee if he'll hook it up for you. He may just do it for a 6-pack as it'll be sonmething he'd actually be proud of to help you out with. Not knowing what's happening with your charging system tho, you can always take of your old alt. into an auto parts store to have them check it. Bring in your voltage reg as well. Regs cost under $15 and would be recommended to replace anyways.
  10. 143mph (according to speedo, was alittle off but not by much) in my first Z, stock 77 2+2. My current 82 280zxt has a 85mph speedo so not sure. I was pulling hard from a friend that was topped at 125 in his 240sx and I was at about 5k in 4th. The 143mph was a sectioned off new construction road. The latter well, was not safe according to the laws of the land and not recomended for interstate travel.
  11. My car club and I went to see the movie and made it into a meet as well. We had several tuned Hondas, a Porshe, WRXs, an Evo, etc. about 9 cars total. I drove my truck and stayed in front because we knew that was going to happen and we couldn't really blame them. After we left the movie we seen 3 single car accidents involveing younger individuals in "sports" cars in ditches or guardrails. 2 were totally facing the opposite direction and there was no rain. Geee... I wonder how that happened? As long as stupid individuals are out there doing stupid stuff, we are going to be continuely harrassed. The only thing we can do is fight for ourselves and to help "teach" these younger individuals that there is a time and place for everything and the street isn't the best choice for some of these actions. I don't agree with overzealous police officers profiling but I do see their point of view.
  12. I like the fact that you used the OE wheel chocks. Very safe.

  14. Well 20 mins ago I just cranked up my Z for the first time in 2 years. It had a bad turbo and I finally got around to it. I know I'll never make it up to my baby but I'll try. Now yours is gonna be more extreme but this is what I had to do about the fuel system and perhaps *crosses fingers* it'll help you as well. I had no fuel coming from the pump and I didn't even hear it come on. I grab a booster box and direct connected it. It chuged and gurgled to my much delight and then finally hummed. I tried cranking the engine but no luck. Plugs were still dry, injectors. I then took my booster box and directly wired each and every injector until I heard it click. The car then came to life but struggled with the bad gas. It's a long shot but perhaps yours may come to life with alittle more cleaning and fresh gas. Good luck.
  15. Welcome to the site. There is alot of knowledge on this board and most if not all your questions will probably be answered if it hasn't already. Play around with the "search" engine, you'll be overwhelmed with posts about topics. Hehe
  16. Well, I've reused mine twice now. Not saying that it's probably the correct thing to do. I have done it and I thought I read somewhere that it was re-usable, or maybe I just wished it was. But anyway yes, I have done it twice on my Z and it's working just fine.
  17. I agree that is very cool and somethng I thought I could use on my Z...But then again I would hope that I didn't need to jack it up enough to warrent such a modification. Hehe
  18. I've worked anywhere between 70hrs (restaurant manager), 60+ (aftermarket parts store manager), 45+ (Nissan parts store manager), 45+ (Outside parts sales rep), Currently 40 (Dept. Manager for a home improvement big box store), very soon 50+hrs..Noooo....not again. It is very hard working long hours and trying to keep your life in check. It also depends on the type of hours you work. restaurant and my current postion I could work anywhere between 5am-11pm (or till 2am with restaurant). Those kind of hours really take a toll both on sleep patterns and social lives. Now if you have more traditional "bankers hours" it makes it alittle easier. Having a consistant time of day to sleep and time off to be with friends, family, and your Z make working those hours much more bareable. Best of luck.
  19. The '71 is gorgeous. The '91 just makes me drool, I don't care what shape it's in.
  20. Replace the battery. Don't run on the altenator too long or you'll fry it as well. Sounds like you did shake the plates loose inside. Like Alexideways said, secure that battery down and make sure it doesn't move. Is it secureed now and how long is your ground cable? It may have ripped off not shook off. It happened to me as well, guess the Datsun peeps knew what they were doing when they put that holddown in there. Hehe. Good luck.
  21. That pretty much summed it up. This brought back memories of the 300z's recall to change from sequential to batch. Had some wiring/fire issues. Just proved to me that sequential was preferred but batch worked just as well. Oh, incase some of you don't know about the recall. It was the early 300's ( Unsure of the exact years it's been afew years since I was Parts manager) that had the recall and it's still valid. I was amazed to see recently used 300's that came in for a check up and the recall hadn't been done. You can just call up your local dealership with your VIN and they can check it out for you.
  22. When I was in TN and NC I only had my Z without AC. Windows did fog up pretty quick. I did keep the heater for the first couple years I was there tho and that helped. Rain and snow seemed to be the only concerns, I got wet many times (driving with windows cracked) but was no concern seeing how you get wet when it rains anyways. Didn't stop me from driving and wasn't that big of a deal at the time.
  23. Sounds like you are thinking along the right lines. I had the same issue with my 240z. I replaced the booster and vacuum hoses. When I took off the old one I noticed that the previous (or one of) had "fixed" it themselves before by trying to use a silicone sealer on. Guess it worked for alittle while but that should just be something temporary. Doing an emergency stop on an interstate doin 80mph could be dangerous if it suddenly blew out again.
  24. That would be fine. You only need to have 3 wires to get 220v (actually 2 but we won't go there, hehe). It's the older wiring ways (pre-76 I believe) with no neutral. Instead of the neutral wire being white you will be using the white wire for your second "hot" wire. You don't have to have a thicker ground but if it'll give you piece of mind then by all means go for it. The usual is by having the ground one gauge smaller than the power but it's not a rule, it just saves them money.
  25. It's for the EGR system. I'd plug it.
