1970 240z Project (Very slow, money is tight)
Perfect240z replied to Perfect240z's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I found that piece on the zstore, but its used, i'll have to search around to see if I can find it. Yeah my valves are shot from the E31 head, I may have to bite the bullet and get some new ones, might be better so I don't have to deal with them possibly being bent, then I can just install them without worry. I wonder if i have to take them to the shop and have them fitted to make sure they seal? Its always 100 deg here in Livermore LOL, your by thw water so hot to you is like 70 deg right? lol RIght on! You get your Z waxed and buffed for the show? Hopefully I can go next year, maybe I can get an award for my Z -

Ill look into a local place to see what they charge. I didn't want to do maaco but if its going to be around the same price since im doing 1 color and just making sure no dents show I may go with another shop. Got my hatch plate on the way today, going to need another piece down where the bumper connects too. Its so jacked up that I think theres too many holes in the bottom. I know thezstore sells it for 250 So I'll have to suck it up, unless you have an extra . BTW do you have any extra L24 valves? The shop blasted mine and all the crud on the valve actually kept it together...So I have chipped valves now. I'll have to source some out, Going to attempt the bushing install today, the HELP brass ones are in the freezer since last night, so I'll have to find my torch and heat up the shifter. How was JCCS? -
Good luck on your build. Try this site out, it'll calculate some numbers for you but remember this isn't real life. This will get you started on some of the head combos for your build. http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/enginedesign/ or this one works too, http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/calcs/engine%20builder/index.html This site will help too http://www.atlanticz.ca/index.php/tech-tips.html http://datsunzgarage.com/

Just ordered my hatch repair panel. It cost a few more bucks then I thought but I needed one so it's money well spent. Also order the intake and exhaust seals for my head. I went to go pick it up today and I guess the shops been closed since Monday > I should've called before driving so far, in any case I'll have to wait till Monday to pick it up and finally put it back together. I'm off the next 4 days so hopefully I can get some work done along with the baby room I have to start on, I may order a lower rear panel where I have all the holes at instead of trying to make it look better where I might make it look worse. Just cut it out and weld in the new piece. -

I'll look into it. I was told about the maacos all being different. If I have the extra money I'll go for a better place, but only time will tell I'll have to look into it. Good looking out! -
Rusty wheel arches. Ideas please...
Perfect240z replied to Perfect240z's topic in Fabrication / Welding
I ended up ordering the black dragon auto arches. I'll post it on my build thread later. They look good, need to be trimmed, but look good. -
And I thought removing the rear wheel arch was a lot...this is just spectacular to see. I wish I had the cash to do this professionaly. And a bmw motor is going to be pretty amazing.

Heres a video update on whats going on. I got my rear wheel arches in the mail, I just need to order the hatch replacement and a special item that will have to go on before the Z is painted. Ordered some bushings from Datsun llc for my shifter linkage. I've heard both good and bad things, but they're just bushings so how bad could this be? Hope to see some cool people at the BBQ on saturday -
Def take your time at that stuff. You don't want to be driving and all of a sudden your entire rear falls off while driving lol.

Im going to use the stock brakes just for a short while and the car up and running. Im pretty sure my suspension is shot I think lol, cant really tell since I drove the car round the block very slowly and broke down at the gas station afterwards lol. But I'm planning on getting T3 suspension set up. This week I'm also ordering my rear wheel arches. Don't worry guys im not planning on doing any engine mods besides the carbs since thats the only thing im looking for at this stage. Everything else is good to use, I also do really want to pay for Su's right now if I don't really plan on using them. And since I found the cannon manifold and its brand new with linkage so the only thing I'll have to order after that are my carbs. -

My carbs abduction linkage are shot. It's either spend 600 on z therapy carbs or pay a few hundred more for what I want out of the car. I'll be ordering suspension pieces at the same time -
Hypothetical Engine Swap for 240z
Perfect240z replied to AlleyCow's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Here look at this whole thread. I think it was about 100k-120k spent on this 240z. But this is just about one of those 240z's with the money your talking about. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/74214-full-on-resto-mod-of-a-240z/page__hl__blaktout -
Hypothetical Engine Swap for 240z
Perfect240z replied to AlleyCow's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Thats why im doing all the body first. IM using my stock L24 and going for all the suspension and brake upgrades before putting anything more powerful into the car. DO IT RIGHT TH FIRST TIME -

I agree with CTC and and Blu, 1 thing that you can bet on is a swap is going to not be cheap with all the fab work, rebuilding the motor, sourcing parts. If you have the Original L24, why not see what power it can make and drive it first for a little while. If its not enough power, You can find an L28 fairly easy and it bolts right in. The power your looking for though will need to go turbo, or you'll need to get some head and block work done to hit your goals. The power your looking for may not be suitable for a D.D. but its up to you, 240z's and the early 260z's are the lightest, so you dont need to get alot of power to get going an it'll be faster/more nimble. On the other hand the later 260z and 280z's are heavier, so you can get the power down better if you want to go LS swap or Rb30. It's your car man, so make it yours. -
Spitz17 has a 3.0L stroker in his fairlady Z. He has been to the track in it. I think it makes somewhere around 240hp to the wheels. Send him a pm and he csnbhave give you his opinion. I'm going to at some point get a rebello motor as well.

You can always do another washing after you get the main gunk off with fresh clean water/cleaner. For the holes you can take a drill bit that fits and with your hand lightly spin it, should scrape off the crap in the holes. DO NOT USE A DRILL. You can probably get a bottle cleaning brush to get in the water ways while its in the cleaner.

Might be ready to drop 300 bucks on a brand new cannon manifold. It's a chunk of change but I'll be on my way really soon. -

Picking up my cylinder head after a dr. appt today. So stoked to have it back, this gives me something to do and take a break from sanding. I need to order some body filler for the deep scratches and such from whoever used a wire wheel on the car. I'll also be renting my ar/co2 for the welding and ordering my rear wheel arches soon too. hopefully I get get a lot of this done in the net week or two. -
