  1. I was looking a little closer, and there doesn't seem to be a turbo on that engine, so I'm not so sure it's a 1jz anymore...I was shown the site by a guy at my old job that was putting a 2jz-gte into an s13 coupe, and I don't remember the site name...It was full of retarded swaps like that, and as soon as I find it, I'll add it unless somebody beats me to it.
  2. The WTF!? hits just keep on coming: I had to steal these from an old celica forum, I've spent the whole afternoon searching for the original website (which I know to exist, it's some Japanese tuning shop) which I can't seem to find right now. This is a late 60's Toyota 2000gt(for those who don't know) with a 1jz-gte supra engine swapped in. A car that would routinely sell for over 100,000 dollars with the value sent straight down the drain. This is why I don't have unlimited resources, because I'd be doing the same thing...
  3. I'd say it's time to get under there and see what fits...then wrap a string to see in inches how long of a belt you need, and take a trip down to the auto parts store and git r dun, right? From there you should just have to build a bracket that ensures your belt will line up just so, run some plumbing, and hope that your ecu or FPR will compensate for the boost, or run some electronics to do that for you. *edit* Also, is the pulley on your supercharger the same amount of teeth as the rest of your accessory drive system, or does it use a wider belt? You might need to play some games with that if they aren't already the same...
  4. So far just in jet mode, my battleoid actuator lever was disconnected by the previous owner, and the protoculture matrix came out for overhaul shortly after I got it, necessitating the use of the vastly inferior su carbs until the RDF processes my request for protoculture replenishment... As far as spending any serious money, the forecast isn't looking too good, at least until my wife starts her new job next week. Whichever way I decide to go, I'll post some pictures when I'm done. I went to borrow a friend's alternator tester, and found out my car is totally running off the battery right now, so that is the first thing on the list to figure out. I'm not sure yet if it's in the wiring or in the component, I haven't had a chance to really look at it. It's not my daily driver, so it's kind of a back burner issue really. Also at that time I decided to put a vacuum cap over the vent port on my fuel cell, and man did that make a difference. I'm not sure if it will affect my fuel delivery or not, I haven't driven it that far since then to find out, but it was definitely a step in the right direction. Plus I bought some new 5-.8 nuts for the tail lights, since they were mostly missing, and just the plastic clips were holding them in. I'm sure that will help a lot.
  5. So it's centrifugal then? Sounds like it's time to build a bracket...How bad do you need that A/C compressor?
  6. I work at a saturn dealership, and the early s cars are generally reliable, but any major repair quickly approaches the value of the car. AC compressor is nearly $700, alternator is $300, and so on. Coolant temp sensors, top motor mounts, and cooling fans are known problems. That said, one of our techs has a 95 SC2 (2 door twin cam) that dynoed at 329whp with a homemade turbo and megasquirt...
  7. Am I the only one who likes "The Irrisponsible Captain Tylor?" That show was so dope...I used to be big into Ranma 1/2, and my screen name comes from Robotech in case nobody caught that. I used to have my z painted like roy fokker's veritech from the series, and may yet again once i get my body work sorted out...I have to agree that Neon Genisis Evangelion is one of the best of all time, and Akira still stands up after all this time. FLCL is one of the most interesting to look at things on tv, even if it doesn't always make sense.
  8. Hopefully he's joking about the alternator fluid, but has anybody ever seen the Lexus hydraulic cooling fan that has tranny fluid or some such running to it, or the Volkswagen cooling fans that have one electric motor that runs two fans with belts? OEM's do some wierd things some times...
  9. That's a pretty generic looking wheel, probably a knockoff of an ssr: . I imagine they would be pretty easy to come by something like that. I doubt they are 4X100 with a staggered offset like that, probably 240sx offset and lug pattern (lug pattern is the same as the z if they are 4-lug) wheels which still leave you needing an adapter. I'm using these: wheels that have a +38 offset, and I had to use a 1 3/4" spacer to make them work.
  10. A forward facing scoop that actively draws in air should be a little different than just opening a hole in what would otherwise be a flat surface, similar to a forward facing scoop on a hood to feed a carburator versus just cutting a hole in the hood with no scoop. Isn't rear window scoops the way they do it in nascar? This picture comes from www.race-cars.com, and it clearly has some kind of scoop in the window there...I know making an "elbow scoop" (hanging one elbow out the window) draws in plenty of air that would otherwise go right past the car...As for using air by the windshield, high pressure air should try to force itself into any hole that was there, that's why cowl induction works, right? So I suspect it wouldn't be a bad place at all to draw from. I think I need to do something though, because here in florida, no climate control and no windows is just not an option from a temperature standpoint, let alone fumes. *edit* upon closer inspection, that scoop looks like it's ducted to the brakes on that car...but that should mean it still gets decent flow, right?
  11. What about Vanishing Point, with Aragorn Son of Arathorn trying to get across country to visit his wife giving birth, and Jason Priestley as the militant radio talk show host egging him on to stick it to the man? "It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar..."
  12. So taking my car and it's myriad problems out of the equation (I'm acutely aware of all the areas my car needs work in, I was just trying to set the mood for what got me thinking about cabin ventilation), would the front of the windshield be a better place to route in air, the roof with a low profile scoop, or by the rear quarter windows?
  13. dude, wraith? "High Plains Drifter was a great movie, let's take everything that was good about that, but leave it out, and then replace the horses with cars...Brilliant!" I'm not hating on you, movie companies do it all the time. "Point break was a great movie, lets take everything that was good about it (gary busy) and leave it out, and replace the surfing with cars...we'll call it The Fast and the Furious! Brilliant!" How about the movie "Cannonball," not to be confused with "Cannonball Run I or II"? The one where David Carradine (from Kung Fu and Kill Bill) is trying to be a race car driver, and has to race a dude in a charger across the country in first a second gen camaro, and then in a kawasaki green (or whatever the old muscle car color was called, flaming nuclear space goo lime, grabber green, i can never keep them straight) 69-ish mustang, "the cooze cruiser."
  14. Well, that was kind of the plan, I was just curious ducting air from the front would work for the better or would it make it worse all other things being equal? Is it really even possible to totally eliminate the fuel smell? I've never been in a z that didn't have it, but I admit that my experience with them is not nearly what most people on the site is...
  15. My arch nemesis has an 83 celica supra, an 89 mkIII turbo, and an SRT-4 neon, and the only car he can keep on the road is the neon. I'm not generalizing about the cars, I like both of them (did you guys know that the fender flares from an early celica supra look decent on the z if you put the back ones on the front and vice versa? Not as good as the zg flares, but cheaply available in the boneyard) but he's always having boost related driveablilty problems. From intercooler pipes blowing off, to headgasket issues (three fel-pros in the last two years, don't think he's tried metal). I suspect this is more due to the fact that he's trying to support three money pit cars and can't afford to "do it right the first time," But in the two years or so I've known him, the 89 has been driveable for maybe three weeks total. no exageration.
  16. Hey Clifton I feel that way as well, but I guess the logic is that when you are drinking and driving, your judgement is impaired, and you may be a reasonably safe driver when not under the influence, but if you are racing on the streets, then you are a danger to yourself and others behind the wheel even when sober and thinking "rationally", hence the stiffer penalty. Here in Tampa the first time street racing offence is worse than a 2nd offence DUI, we call them the Fast and the Furious regulations, becauese they came out hot on the heels of that milestone of tuning culture that so helped further the cause...
  17. I've been searching to see if using a roof scoop would change the aerodynamics of my car in a way conducive to not dying of smoke inhalation, or if it would in fact do the opposite and promote more fumes getting drawn in through the back. I went out driving the other night to help my buddy put some miles on his bike, and while I was sitting by my car with it's dead battery waiting for him to go home and get his car(I made the thrilling discovery that my alternator isn't charging properly at 3am) I was trying to come up with solutions to my fume situation. I know I've got bad seals on my tail lights, and i've got a big gaping hole in my hatch where my fuel cell is residing, but my exhaust extends out a good six inches from the back of the car and is angled out to the passenger side (which i was hoping would put the fumes out far enough to keep them from getting drawn in, but evidently not). Also I know for a fact that my manifold gasket is leaking on number six, and that problem will be solved when I go back to fuel injection soon. So my possible solutions I came up with are like this: roof scoop (which if placed over the driver's head has the added benifit of more helmet clearance if needed), turning the inspection panels in the hood into ducted scoops that come out of the dash where the ac vents used to be, and removing the rear quarter windows for clear ealanor style scoops epoxied on to plexi replacements. Aesthetics (and I know that I need to patch up these known problem areas before doing any creative ducting) aside, would scooping more air into the cabin from the front of the car increase or decrease the fumes? I know fumes have been beaten to death, but I haven't come across anything that really deals with the effects of scoops on the problem...
  18. supposedly the clear portion of the hood on this supra melted into a yucky mess after Sports Compact Car put all the 2 Bi 2 Curious cars through their testing procedures to see if any of them were actually faster...
  19. well, just in case none of that works, give some of this a shot: [/b]:window.close()"] as for testing the flasher, try replacing it with one you know works (like the one for the hazards), and if that doesn't solve the problem, you should test the bulbs (USUALLY a burned out bulb will show signs of discoloration, but not always, so you might have to build a test rig of two wires that you hook to the battery to get them to light up) and inspect the sockets for wear and corrosion. I've seen a lot of the plastic sockets develop some play around the slots that hold the mounting ears of the bulb in them after a long time, which will cause a bulb to not light up consistently. At this point I'm not very clear, are your bulbs lighting, but not blinking, or not coming on at all?
  20. How likely is it that you only have one functional injector? Did you replace the entire engine with the manifolds, injectors, sensors, and all, or did you just take the long block and use all your old accessories? You can dry fire an injector by connecting a 9volt battery to it, and hearing it click (or not if it doesn't work or is stuck), I don't know if you've tried that yet on the ones that aren't doing anything. Have these injectors (whether they were your originals or off this other engine) been sitting for a long enough period of time that they could have developed varnish deposits from the old gas in them and need cleaning?
  21. Oddly enough, I've seen this car come up more times on this site than through any google search. No search terms I've tried to throw at it have gotten me even one picture in a web search, but it's turned up in at least 3 or 4 seperate threads on Hybridz, usually along with that black car I posted earlier, which came from an old thread anyway. I'm beginning to suspect that whatever atlantis space alien built this car has taken it back to andromeda...
  22. I suppose if you've seen the actual race footage, it must have happened, but I can't help feeling like those photos are doctored. Something about the coloration and lighting of the car versus the background feels wrong to me. I guess if they are screen captures, that might account for some of this visual wierdness I'm experiencing....
  23. It feels like photo shop to me. Look how the suspension still appears to be compressed, unlike any legit photo you see of a car in flight where the wheels hang down all the way. I don't buy that these astons have that short of a wheel travel that it wouldn't hang down any lower than that...
  24. this is starting to remind me of this: http://www.rense.com/general3/thun.htm
  25. All wheel drive has been talked about on here quite a bit, and at least once it's been done, but if you look at the car: http://www.z31.com/~morgan/nd/?z/awd1000hp240z.jpg you can see it has some extensive radiator core support mofications done to it which this red car doesn't appear to. You can see what looks to be an unmolested front structure through the grill, and you can almost see the valve cover through the hole in the scoop, and to me at least it doesn't really look like a gtr transplant. It looks like a standard l series oil cap in the correct location, with no pretty gt-r valve cover colors. So I'm not convinced what we're looking at is a real live awd s30, and I further don't believe that we're looking at a real race car, because if this thing was ever campaigned somewhere, SOMEBODY on this site would certainly know about it... Until somebody can find the original source of these photographs, all we can do is pretend to be CSI investigators with these pictures...
