Just wondering... Plexiglass question.
veritech-z replied to MIBPreacher's topic in Fabrication / Welding
I'd be concerned about heat warpage if you had a turbo...I'm pretty sure I've seen clear honda civic hoods, even in different translucent colors. here's one for a jeep: it's from: http://www.brtechracing.com -
i did a search on here for awd 240z, and evidently this car has turned up a few times, rarely with any real information. There was a link to some guy's page that had all kinds of pictures that were clearly "borrowed" from other sources with no explanations, which is unfortunate because he had several cars that seemed noteworthy on there (including some cars that looked like they were from this forum)...here is the link: http://ecahost.com/280z/zpics.html

According this article (I've still got this back issue at home), Jun went 8.88 in the 1/4 mile back in 1998 on a stock rear end sylvia...

the only car in that thread that looked remotely like this car was this one: which is obviously not the same car, unless there was one I missed...I was following that thread pretty closely because I found it supremely interesting.

I would LOVE to know the story behind this car...looks exactly like a JGTC car...

I saw an engine builder article in one of the hot rod type magazines years ago about a guy who adapted 4-cylinder dohc porsche heads to work on a small block, but i've been searching for almost an hour and can't come up with a picture of it. I'm almost positive that it was popular hot rodding's engine builders challenge, but i've been through all the results pages on their website and can't find a thing...anybody else remember that?

you forgot: Ford Nucleon Problem: "Auto accidents don't involve enough collateral damage...Is there any way we can kick it up a notch?" eureka moment: "That uppity gas station attendant has left my cap off for the last time! this ought to take him down a peg..." result: Cold war propaganda about the dangers of mutated bigfoots living on the mountains of toxic waste produced by the spent uranium the 5000 mile change interval of the ford nucleon would produce caused a political fallout at ford motor company, leading to the premature disposal of this idea. where it went terribly, terribly wrong: too much Dr. Strangelove, not enough batman

Also if you aren't too concerned about the pretty anodized colors, I'm pretty sure Napa carries the -an fittings in regular metal color. When I worked at Advance Auto Parts, we had a russell catalog, and were able to order all that stuff too, so if you really can't find it anywhere, you could have them do it. Jegs has the cheapest price for it online that I found when I was doing my fuel stuff. You can get the fittings, and then the hose comes in pre-cut sections I think.

you can get one here, along with some other choice gear: http://www.kalecoauto.com

I tried to do a http://www.whitepages.com search in your city for a place that does custom hose, but couldn't really find one. As for what type of fitting you need, my buddy with the (dynod) 329hp to the wheels saturn twin cam is just using a 90 degree -an fitting to a braided hose, but if you have or have access to the hard lines that came on the 280zx turbo, that's going to be the easiest/least fabrication to use. If you need to figure out what thread pitch you have on the turbo bearing, just take the turbo into any advance auto parts (you should have them there, they're all over the country), and run the thread gauge they have behind the parts counter through it. The turbo I have is an externally wastegated t04, so I'm not sure taking mine somewhere to be spec'd out would be much help to you. When Sports Compact Car magazine built their project 300zxtt, they did a whole lot of feature tech articles about building the Vg30dett, and while not all of them would apply to an n/a build some of the things they did would work well on any engine: they polished the coolant passages in the heads as far as they could to get rid of casting flash, and they used thermal coatings from www.swaintech.com to manage combustion temperatures. I know the jury is still kind of out on engine coatings, but I haven't heard anyone have bad results with these guys at least. Cosworth pistons have coated skirts, for whatever that's worth...

Well, I still don't know what vehicle your turbo was stock on, which makes it difficult to know exactly which turbo you might have (hence difficulty in identifying your mystery threads). Around here, we have a place that will make custom hoses with custom threaded ends for super cheap called amazon hose, you might have something like that near you..

If it was good enough for nissan...it should be good enough for a "stock" t3, right? Unless you are making custom manifolding and using a remote wastegate turbo or a different size that wouldn't work with the "stock" turbo lines, your best bet would be to just do it the way nissan did it on the l28et, and the easiest way would be just to use the nissan parts from an l28et. Now, if the parts you are using are "stock" from something BESIDES an l28et, you no longer have a "stock" setup, and are looking at custom fabrication. I don't mean to come off as rude or anything, but creating custom setups using "factory" parts (parts that were fitted to something by the manufacturer, but not the car you intend to use them on) is different than using "stock" parts (parts that were originally fitted to the vehicle you are using them on), so maybe it would be easier to help you if we could see pictures of what you are doing, or at least list what vehicle these parts came from to give us an idea what you are working with. I surmise from this and other posts of yours I've seen that you are using l28et stuff to turbocharge an n/a l28e? As far as finding out stuff everybody already knows, I've found the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell to be very approachable and informative as far as basic turbo system design is concerned, and it's also available at most big chain booksellers.

looks more like a starion to me...but there was a 280zx transformer, I bet you could do that one pretty well. -
I've never seen one in person, so I'll have to take your word for it. At least the Vette would be fast, that counts for something... There is a guy in Tampa who has an El Camino with a studebaker front end, the one that kind of looks like an old sabre jet in the front? It's pretty cool I guess, but by far the lamest thing I saw around here (no pics, sorry fellas) Is the El Camaro, a third gen camaro all the way back to the back of the hatch area, wheels and all. But welded on after that, wheels and all, is the bed from an el camino. so this thing has two rear axles for no reason, and a truck bed behind the hatch. No accounting for taste I guess...

It's probably due to rate of thermal expansion. I'm not sure what it is for helium, but i've seen balloons pop just from being in the sun (ie. just the sun shining on it caused it to expand so much it blew up), so I can only imagine that the stresses of high speed driving would take that to the next level...

That car is Dope! Wonder if he's faster than this guy: http://www.turbocorolla.com/media/video/3rotorAE86.asf

I've never seen that one, but it's right up there (down there?) with this one:

that episode was hot, I liked the Russian team's three front wheels on spokes around a central hub idea. I can't remember if they really built it, or it was just the idea they had... -

i doubt it, he sells the suits for $2750 for non-transformable, $3750 transformable, so i would think he's not giving anything in the nature of designs away... -
The 90mm throttle body from a Q45 opens the other way from the stanza throttle body I'm using, so the tps is not compatible. I was looking at a single cam ka24 in an early 240sx, and it had the throttle flywheel on the opposite side of the throttle body from mine, which is why i went with the fwd throttle body in the first place. I can't say for sure if it works on the 240sx or not...

did you ever notice how much wheel gap they have on stock ones, but yet they are still so low from ground to roof? That car was a combination of so many conflicting design cues...super fast looks, super slow drivetrain. I think there is a company out in Texas that still offers turbochargers for them, ups the power to like 230 or so, but to my knowledge, there was most definitely never a V-8 option. Supposedly the factory turbo was in the works before John DeLorean went to jail for drugs or whatever he did. There is also a shop with the last factory trained mechanic who still works on DMC cars in operation there too.

Sorry about the error there, somebody disrupted my space-time continuum....
