Which spoiler works best?
veritech-z replied to 260DET's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Did JohnC ever finish his spoiler tests that he alluded to on the thread Jmortensen dug up? I have a question that I haven't really seen anybody address: On one of the longer Aero threads from the days of yore, it was mentioned that using vortex generators like on the Evo MR (which is all one piece available from a Mitsu dealer, if anybody is interested in experimenting with one) would reduce drag by affecting the air traveling over the hatch. Would the louvers do this same thing to the airflow over the hatch? I was thinking of maybe getting some louvers and extending them out with some aluminum sheet maybe...Here's the idea: It looked a lot cooler in my head before I put it down on paper... -
Hey, Kingrob, that looks great! Did you do that whole thing in photoshop, or just the flares and bumper?

Nismo280zed, those camera bags are just lead lined I believe. I got one to bring my film to Paris when I went there for a study abroad.

I decided to feed my rail from both sides, with the regulator being fed towards the middle...I haven't actually run the car this way yet, I'll be sure and let you know how it works out. This isn't the O-ring rail, it's just another picture of the barbed rail installed to show that you don't have the problem with thermostat clearance you have on the other type.

Well, it's no members only jacket, but I DO have a rockin Datsun jacket that I made. Here is me and my Datsun jacket on our honeymoon. (oh yeah, my wife is there too) So far, niether my car, nor my datsun jacket has gotten me anything but puzzled looks from girls that have no idea what they are looking at...My skateboard never did either, I felt so cheated by all those music videos that told me otherwise.

I'm not sure that you're old enough for the anatomically correct explanation, mike... It's actually a grocery store. Pretty big chain that doesn't let their bag persons accept tips...referred to internally as "Pube-licks..." Guess every shmoe job gets a new nickname.

... That's about all I've got to say about that...No, that's not true...He could have at least used an engine that made some power, like a turbo 626 engine, or maybe a prelude H22, and then put it in the back. THEN maybe I would be impressed. For some Hybrid swap WTF-ery that makes at least a SMALL amount of sense, visit this guy at www.suprang.com

Which spoiler works best?

That particular car looks like it has a bigger than normal gas tank that takes up the place the muffler used to be, but I wouldn't swear to that...On a rally car I would expect that you would want as much ground clearance as you could get, so keeping it above the lowest point of your undercarriage would save you any embarrassing muffler dragging... That spoiler is the one commonly referred to as the "BRE" spoiler. I don't know who designed it, but I think the name comes from the fact that they used it on the BRE cars. Plus it's advertised for sale as "BRE style spoiler" almost anywhere you can buy it new. -
There are Publix everywhere in Florida...All the Kash n Karrys just turned into Sweet Bays though... Hmmm...what's the X-1 got that the ZZZap! ain't got...must be nice paint. Women will never understand the sleeper.

Whoah, whoah, slow down. Did you say ACTUAL GIRLS check your car out? I find that hard to believe...My car ONLY attracts nerdy guys that think they know something about anything, but it seems all they know how to do well is wast my time and try my patience...not that I WANT to attract MILFS, or even DILFS, seeing as how I'm all married and what not, I'm just saying...that's all I'm saying...

You trying to give Garrett a run for his money, or what?

You should have worn the disguise I gave you for your birthday, would have worked for sure. "I'm a stone cold grocery getter, baby!" *edit* You know, I was thinking, and when it's running, getting groceries is about all my Z is good for...It seems I only ever take it up to publix for small grocery orders, or to blockbuster...I'm not alone though, because I always park next to a guy with a rockin' 510 that is seafoam green who always seems to be up there. Once there was a Delorean in the parking lot. Yeah, Tampa is where its at. Join my club, Brandon, and know what it's like to age...

wow, thanks Kimi, I didn't know that was a 2+2 until I saw the driving picture.

Yeah, you would end up going through several MS boxes AT LEAST, not counting F*d up sensors and control modules and wiring, assuming you were able to test it out. Would it be possible to modify a microwave oven to this end? According to the military technology website that John posted, a smaller device like a computer that was not plugged in to anything would likely have its operation interrupted, but might not be critically damaged by an EMP since it didn't have as much circuit material to build up a damaging charge. That statement gives me some hope that your MS would make it. Also it suggests that a vehicle would offer some inherent protection since it is composed of a large amount of metal that would act as a partial shield. Really, without a testing apparatus, you won't have any idea what would work...

carbs, rated flow and power vs vacume
veritech-z replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
So I'm trying to get my head around all that...What would I need to know about my engine to be able to effectively determine the flow requirements at a given RPM? Also, what features of a carb will determine what it flows at various levels of vacuum (like the 600cfm example that you said would flow 350cfm @ 0.5")? Is that something you just know from doing it a million times, or is there like a formula or something? -
I got ya now. I was thinking that it increased the pressure across the system, not just up to the point of restriction. For the purposes of carbs, that isn't really useful, but for a fuel injection system where the regulator comes after the rail (like in the hammering on top of the regulator example) that would work to increase pressure. If the real goal is fuel flow, what is the point of raising pressure (aside from compensating for boost)? Can you compensate for a smaller flowing injector by bumping the pressure up, or is it really just a pointless modification?

+1! Are you going to be able to turn that thing?

SSK, if you get an SRT-4, you'll end up dumping money into it, whether it be in upgrades, repairs, or both. The bitter voice of experience is saying to get a boring daily driver that gets good gas mileage and is comfortable in traffic, that way your motivation and money can be better spent on your real project. By the way, all SRT-4 owners reading this, that is not a knock on the reliability of that car-it actually would apply to any car, just that any tuner car you buy, you are going to want to tune, and it just makes more sense to consolidate your efforts into one car, and have a reliable way to get to work and back. That way you don't end up with two half assed sports cars, for no better reason than that you ran out of money trying to support both, and weren't able to do either properly.

This came up on the "280zx widebody kit" thread that is going on in the vendors forum as well. There is a picture that Corpcrim posted that I'll try to repost (it doesn't work from this computer, but it works on other computers I've logged into the thread from). I don't know anything about this car, but it has ZG flares on it, so it can be done, whether these are specific to the ZX or modified S30 flares I couldn't say.

Titanium teeth, AND a robo-arm? You'll need to change your avatar to this: "Gentlemen, we HAVE the technology..." -
I was looking at that Aeromotive pressure map, and I think I see what might have been misleading to me. Evidently the A1000 pump is capable of 70psi, but the flow reduces to 400gph. I had assumed they were advertising the maximum pressure, when in fact they were advertising the flow rate at a typical fuel injection pressure. I'm still a bit confused about why pressure does not increase with restriction, though. I thought I remembered from physics that if you reduce area available to flow, velocity and pressure should increase, but flow volume should decrease...Is it due to something going on with the pump itself? Some type of bypass valving or something? I know you need a certain volume of fuel to make a given amount of horsepower, but you also need a certain amount of pressure to overcome the boost (is that still just base system pressure + boost pressure, or does adding fuel injection change that?), which is why I was hung up on pressure capability. I appreciate you guys taking the time to explain this, by the way, this has been really helpful so far (to me, at least).

10-12, that's it? Medical science has come a long way...when I managed to hit my own face with a golf ball, they stopped counting my stitches at 21 because the guy said it was bad luck to count them... -
I was thinking about this earlier this evening, and I was wondering if it wouldn't be more worth Hoohaa's time to attempt to shield his garage? It would probably be much easier to do, and from what he's posted about his concerns, he is primarily interested in having a running vehicle should the need arise, so perhaps making a shielded garage with a running vehicle inside would be something to consider?

One of the techs at work and I were cracking up watching that the other day...that was good stuff!

I feel partially responsible for the prior thread getting locked down, since I was the one that jokingly brough up the movie science. Sorry about that one, hoohaa, didn't mean any harm. I think if anybody that was taking part in a car-based forum was going to know anything about EMP shielding, you will probably find such a one is a member of Hybridz. Hopefully somebody will be able to give you a real answer this time. Also, I have not yet heard anything about your situation with msefi from the guy I asked, but if I do, I'll PM you with it.
