Why would you need to EMP shield your MS anyway, are you planning to operate it around nuclear detonations? Not saying you were in any way treated fairly, but it's possible they suspected your motives for asking about something like that? Craziest thing I ever heard of...(the banning, not the request)

Doc, is that 5X100 in metric speak? The new Saturn Sky is in that lug pattern, as are the SRT-4 neons, and possibly some others if it is, so there should be a decent aftermarket for wheels that would fit.

I would recommend getting a carfax report before buying ANY known "tuner" car, especially an Evo, WRX, or honda production of any type, they are almost garaunteed to have been modified at one point.

I'll play your game...Here we have the Camo ZZZap! In this photo, you can see most of the cool stuff that has been done to this car: 1979 RX-7 power mirrors mounted on the fenders (sans power), Acura RSX-TypeS side skirts, shortened to fit, rattle can camo paint job, Impul Hoshino Racing RS-III 17" wheels, angled rice can exhaust (on passenger side because the fuel cell freed up some under car space back there), Tokiko 1" drop with matching strut cartridges, and mystery fiberglass front spook. Oh yeah, and smoked headlight covers with H-4 headlight conversion (didn't help any, just do HIDs if you are considering this mod). Enjoy.

Duke, the warranty follows the car, not the owner. If your warranty was voided by a previous owner, you buying the car doesn't change that. That's why you run a carfax report before you buy something that might be a concern. I went to the beta motorsports website, and there was a 20b powered third gen RX-7, and a 13B powered RX-8, but no 20b powered RX-8...what gives?

Pulled a Michael Jackson (painted my car w/pix)
veritech-z replied to EMWHYR0HEN's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Wasn't sure where the Mike Jackson reference was going, I was hoping it wasn't going to end up being a special "passenger":icon53: ...I really like the new color, came out great if the pics are any indication! -
I was actually driving mine with NO alternator (i found this out the hard way when it finally gave up on me) for some time, and it would always take a recharge. Red top for the win, in my opinion.
-
That is going to look sweet! Nice color choice! I like your car, by the way, nice bug-catcher.
-
I'd say several pounds, but I haven't got any hard numbers to offer you.
-
The problem with the yellow top over the red top is that the warranty sucks since they know it will end up in a car with a modified electrical system. The red top will give you excellent performance for $50-$80 less depending on where you buy it, AND it will have a longer warranty. You can probably tell I give the nod to the red top, right?

I am in no way affiliated with this girl, but stumbled across this video on youtube while looking at somebody's "miata needs paint" video. I find it entrancing...

I swapped my diff to an R200 on my 77, and ended up with that thing as an extra part...I had no idea where to put it, and no memory of where it came from, but it sure does make a good doorstop...

And then goes on to have: among other things. A nice car, to be sure, but it's hard to sell it as both factory restoration and a radical custom. 24kt gold headlight retainers? wtf?! on all counts!

Hey Grumpy, how is the wiring situation in the vettes? Pretty decent? I worked at an advance autto parts for 5 years, so I saw a LOT of different makes of battery come and go. It seems like Florida is especially hard on batteries with our bizarre temperature and humidity changes, but in general I've found that even though they cost more, AC Delco probably has the best normal type batteries out there. Wal Mart batteries are at the bottom of the pile (Neverstart),and the various parts store brands were OK but not great. 2-3 years is about average for an aftermarket battery in Florida, although the original battery can last as long as 5 or 6. The myth about leaving a battery on the ground and having it discharge faster than normal is exactly that: a myth. Old timers will swear by it, but it just isn't true. As for why your vettes are killing the batteries: I don't have a very good answer except that my Z was doing the same thing until I redid all the battery cable wiring. I'm using an Optima red-top, and even if it gets discharged, it has been very reliable when it comes time to recharge. They are costly, but they have the same 36month free, 72 month prorate warranty as the high end advance auto parts battery. If you could find a deep cycle that had a decent amount of cranking amps, that might help with overall battery life, but the fact that the battery will die after a few weeks of being connected implies there is a drain on it somewhere. Hope that's at least a bit helpful!

Works' cage with mystery weld nuts revealed
veritech-z replied to bjhines's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
That's a really cool picture, where did you ever come across something like that? -
I believe MSD makes a regulator that will do that also. I'm pretty sure they just modify the bosch regulators with a preload adjustment, but they are really affordable. I think that if you are able to close off the entire carb assembly in a box, it would work fine. I've seen it done on a v-8 with a multi carb setup that had 8 air horns, and the top of the box was glass or plexi, I don't know which, but it was pretty cool looking.

Going to concerts here is nothing like what you described, or at least it wasn't when I was in the habit of going to shows. We've got a big punk scene here, and in the mid 90's we were known as the Death Metal capitol of the world, a title you don't come by without a local scene to support it. Cannibal Corpse is from here (non-metalheads might know them as the band at the club in Ace Ventura), Marilyn Manson is from Ft. Lauderdale, Limp Bizkit is from Gainesville...the list goes on. That wasn't really my scene, I was more into punk, but we had a lot of fun shows come through back in the old days. My wife is more of a hip-hop/contemporary rock kinda chick, so I don't know if we'd be able to find a concert we'd both enjoy. The bodies exhibit was here for about 6 months, and it was totally worth every penny! Be sure and check out the 30lb cancer lump that they took out of a guy's stomach that was growing it's own eye and teeth and hair. Something else you'll probably notice is that almost EVERY body there came from a smoker. Look for it, and you'll see why I say that. Here, at the end, they let you hold an actual plasticized brain, I don't know if that is still going on at the other stops or not. For some reason though, looking at the muscle made me think of smoked turkey leg like you get at a theme park. Washington State is the home of Bigfoot, right? Are there any cheesy sideshow things that I could drag my wife to? I always make her go into those at the state fair, I'm determined to instill a sense of whimsy into her if it's the last thing I do (the rate I'm going, it may BE the last thing I do..)

That was a cool site, I just wish they had more of a wheel selection.
-
I'll have to let you know after I talk with my wife about it, but I'd love to hang out with you guys! We aren't 100% sure we're going yet. She's in the process of getting a new job, and if she does, she'll have to go to a 2 week training program in Seattle starting October 30th. I'll keep you posted.

Nice looking car, I like the BSR valve cover and steering wheel!
-
Just edited, hit refresh and go back. I've got a bad habit of constantly editing posts, and missing a bunch of stuff...
-
I like those wheels, you looking to sell, or possibly trade? I've got a mysterious round port N42 head, and also some MOMO quasar 15X7" wheels (that in all honesty would require spacers to fit, but don't look too bad) That I'm not using...all that stuff is in my photo album, if you want to check it out.
-
Thanks Ron! That IS a nice picture! I don't know what the weekend will be like, about how far are you guys from Seattle? Also, when you say "flying", are we talking about an ACTUAL flying machine, or is this something you cooked up in the garage out of a few vacuum cleaners and a shopping cart?

You know what they say: "If it don't work, chrome plate it." That is rediculous...

I bet you could work it out. You would have to do some clever ducting, and mount it horizontal, then you could do a water to air intercooler if you so desired to save on space. You could even put the radiator in the back, and run longer hoses, like JUN did on that orange drift subaru with ducts in the rear doors. That would be the hardest car ever if you drove it down the street! The duct you see there runs to a radiator, and exits through the trunk.
