  1. That's no joke, I don't think you could get it much lower than it is!
  2. If it was me, I'd find out what you need to take off to do a right hand drive conversion, and sell it all on ebay for a ludicrous price, then put that engine in an early 80's toyota corona. Sleeper of the Year!
  3. I always heard (and this is totally hearsay, but I'm going to put it out there for what it's worth) that not having enough backspace -whether it be from having too much spacer or whatever- would cause excessive wear on your wheel bearings. Can anybody out there either confirm or bust this urban legend?
  4. Here's mine (epiphone SG clone on the left, Fender Mustang on the right): The SG clone was gloss black, but I sanded it down and then drew on it with a sharpie. but it didn't come out especially well in the picture.
  5. That's almost Honda civic territory, you must have a header! (I'm thinking you need to just bring this engine home, and put it in something lighter)
  6. How did you feel about the LY? I don't hear too much about that head.
  7. It was probably too fast for him, what with it being "turbo" and all. Who are we talking about, anyway?
  8. I think the teaching was going the other way... As a reformed Honda owner, you'll be back. They always come back...
  9. I too would argue that the 240z is probably NOT the most recognizable. I don't know HOW many time I've had to explain that my 280z was in fact NOT a porsche to someone that barely knew their own name, but they sure knew what a porsche looked like.
  10. Nice clean workspace, nice clean car...Looking like a really smooth build!
  11. Other way around, I think. The wastegate signal comes from the manifold, and you are only interupting it with the EBC. The source of the signal should go to the IN, and the end point should come from the OUT.
  12. since we seem to be arguing semantics at this point, www.dictionary.com defines sports car to be: a:a small, high-powered automobile with long, low lines, usually seating two persons. b: An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds. c:a small low car with a high-powered engine; usually seats two persons There were no results for "pony car," but it generally refers to mustangs and camaros (I've heard it applied to some others, but I've never seen an official list or description) Also, sports car or no, I bet you could have a LOT of fun in a stripped down Z28...
  13. I don't think this needs to get personal...this was a pretty fun thread, but now it will probably get shut down... I really don't even desire a modern supercar. I've always been the type to find something neat, and tweak it a little bit. I prefer the idea of a sleeper, even though you'd never know that by looking at my z. I'd be much more likely to spend that kind of money on a house, and then take the change leftover and resto-mod something older. It's just so much more exclusive to have something original. I read an article in Grass Roots Motorsports about Adam Carrolla's cars, and he said something along the lines of "Most celebrities just get the same old car. Why would you want the same hummer or bently or whateve as everybody else? Get something original." That's why he drives a 510 signed by Mr. K with a normally aspirated FJ20 with dual side draught carbs.
  14. No, I heard a 93 civic with NOS could do a FULL mile in 11.3. And that was BEFORE Chuck Norris got in it. Of course, Chuck has an LED exhaust tip on his, so that's probably what made the difference. I saw on the internet that Mr. T recently bought an 89 CRX with get this....a B16 in it! He should be in the 9's by next week.
  15. I'd buy THAT for a dollar! I don't understand why there is no entry level RWD car available anymore. After the AE86, pretty much all there was left was the 240sx line up, and now we don't even have that. I hate being told what I'm supposed to like, whether it be my music, my shoes, or my cars. My wife/friends/casual acquaintances/strangers off the street ask for my opinion on things like what my favorite car are, or should I get this wheel for my car, they are always amazed about what I pull out of my ass. I have the hardest time shopping for skate shoes, because I know what makes a good skate shoe, but for some reason the perfectly good model that was available last year has been replaced with some crappy shoe that may or may not look better, but certainly performs worse for it's intended application. Cars and wheels follow this trend as well. There isn't much on the market I even like, and the few that I do think are worth owning are out of my price range. Life is so unfair... *edit* I'd say Lambo falls into the supercar category, even though it no longer comes from the factory with lamborghini doors. You have to buy those kits extra now from an import magazine. Ferrarri's are pretty much either GT cruisers or supercars, depending on which model you get. A fine line, to be sure, but I would agree with BJ that there is a line there somewhere. However, I'd put the Japan market S13 sylvia into the sports car category. *edit**edit* here's a link to an article about the dire straights that ford is going through in the business section of www.cnn.com. Bj might be a little inflamatory with his predictions, but ford IS in trouble. http://money.cnn.com/2006/09/15/news/companies/ford_is_it_enough/index.htm?postversion=2006091518
  16. I like these better from their competition wheels page, but the ones you posted didn't look too bad. Seem like designer imposters, like most wheel companies seem to be these days, but if you can get the look you want for cheap, why not?
  17. Somebody on www.turbosaturns.net beat you to it: here's a 2 Jay-z swap with Nas:
  18. See how much he want's for the whole car, maybe you'll be one of those "Found it in a barn" stories! I think that plenum will probably have air lines running to the fuel bowls to keep the pressure equalized, and there will most likely be hose clamps on the fuel feed lines underneath the SUs. I'm curious what else was done to prep those carbs, because I was thinking of fabricating that exact setup for my car before I got the megasquirt...
  19. I've seen that manifold, it's pretty sweet looking. I wondered what the benefit to losing the plenum were, if any.
  20. Maybe it's thirsty, have you tried pouring some soda on it? I think that's about all that's left... I opened up the 77 fuel injection relay (the wiring on my car looks like I salvaged it from the Titanic-all corroded and crumbly) and it's got a little printed circuit inside. Well, opened it up is more a euphamism for "it fell apart in my hands," but that's neither here nor there. My point is that the stock fuel injection is needlessly complicated and time consuming to diagnose, and a megasquirt costs less than a new fuel injection relay if you build it yourself. Globerunner, no harm, no foul. I freaked a girl out once by giving her a ride in my first 280 that was wired like that, and she freaked out when I turned off the defroster to turn off the car. She thought it was so cool, but I'm not sure her standards were that high, since we were driving to Target to buy a wire hanger to fish out her keys that were locked in her eclipse (both outside plastic doorhandles were broken, and her keys were on the passenger seat.).
  21. I saw that last week and thought the exact same thing! You'd have to play some games with the runner spacing if you were going to do it like he describes, but it would make a nice plenum for a triple setup.
  22. I like the look of BBS wheels, and from all accounts, the quality is there. I tend to gravitate towards older wheel styles anyway though. New wheels have less character to me, much like my decision to work on an early Z car in the first place-new cars just don't seem to have the same soul to me.
  23. On that same tangent, the new Camaro is NOT a hit with me personally, I think the front end treatment is horrible. I would much rather have seen a retro Second Gen Camaro than that one, which was a derivative design (mustang clone) anyway. At least the Gen II had a distinct look.
