  1. Did he user paper mache to make the front bumper?
  2. I'm on another forum with a feature under User CP --> Options that allows you to select what forums you do or don't want to appear when you hit the new posts button. I was wondering if that's something that could be considered here. Seems it would be fairly simple to add. Thoughts?
  3. Here's my rust bucket. Still debating if I want to fix the rust or just get a new shell. Looks a little different now though. I have "new" doors and a nice series one hatch to go on. Wheels are being replaced with snowflakes with good tires I got off a parts car.
  4. I have heard of them, but haven't heard any of their music. I'll check them out.
  5. You're missing out. There's plenty of good music still being made, and you would be a fool to think otherwise. Off the top of my head, some kinda similar bands are Muse, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes... I'm not sure what kind of music you are into exactly but there is a lot out there. I love QOTSA. I listened to everything I have by them yesterday, although I seem to be missing quite a bit somehow...
  6. You want to stick with the same gauge metal as the rest of the car, especially if it's body work. If I'm not mistaken, the Z is all 20 gauge, so use that. The reason I was told was because of how the metal will bend, etc. With thicker metal, you might not get the right contour, etc. There might be other reasons. Most people don't want to deal with shipping, I think.
  7. The best custom grill I've seen was done by member HLS30-08077. You can see some pics of it here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2635267 I can't find a writeup of how he made it though.
  8. If you want a custom grill, don't do chicken wire. It will look cheap, and it will look like crap.
  9. I'm confused. Because I bought Forza 3, and have beaten probably half the races so far with the 240z... Edit: I'm guessing the Fairlady Z and 240Z are not the same.
  10. If it makes you feel any better, it rained a ton here, and my friend apparently left his sunroof open.
  11. Something I thought I should point out - I really don't think they're looking to add to the value. If they were, they'd be doing a stock restoration, what with this being a fairly early series one car. Personally, I like how the diamond racing wheels look. If only they weren't so heavy.
  12. Good idea. I'd like to see this happen.
  13. You just described, exactly, the plastic rivets that the car comes with.
  14. The trim panels? there should be 3-4 plastic rivets holding them onto the hatch sill. You just tap out the centers and pull them out. After that there's 2-3 clips on the bottom holding them on. They'll just pull off. If someone replaced the plastic rivets with metal ones, then yes, carefully drill them out.
  15. Are you SURE you need a whole new rocker? Unless there's a ton of bondo hiding rust it would be a lot easier to just patch it. I cut out the whole rocker on my 280z because it was rusted out under the sill plate. I really wish I hadn't.
  16. I'll nominate most anything from this album: http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?ppuser=19475&cat=500 Favorite pic from said album: http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=20664&size=big&cat=&ppuser=19475 I've used it as my desktop background for over a year now.
  17. I don't think the 70-72 240z uses any bushing in the tranny crossmember... not that I know of at least, assuming you're talking about bolting the crossmember to the tranny tunnel. The 73-78 tranny crossmembers are a slightly different design though, and although I haven't checked, I wouldn't be surprised if they used a bushing.
  18. Bimmerforums.com, Tristatetuners.com (local). I'm registered on a TON of others, but those are the ones I frequent.
  19. Where exactly is it rusting? Chances are the car isn't worth your time...
  20. I've heard of people converting their cars to look like the later 240Zs, just very rare from what I've read. BTW, if you haven't, I would recommend posting this on classiczcars.com, since, well, they're a lot more factory Z oriented, and those guys will probably be able to tell you for sure what your car is and what happened.
  21. Yes, the tools and jack behind the seats under a plastic cover was a series one only feature. Series two and up had the "cup" behind the badges. They are functional though! There should be an outlet towards the front of the car. Kind of like a side scoop but on the inside of the car... Yes, both 1970 and 1971 cars can be a series one. The 1971 series one is usually referred to as an early 1971. Series one cars were made up until 1/71. Your VIN is awfully low to be titled as a 1971, although it is possible, just not likely. From what I've seen, the switch from being titled as a 1970 vs 1971 happened roughly around the 10,000 mark, as far as VINs go. No, series two cars did not have hatch vents, ever. That's another series one only feature. So, yes, you are correct. Wasn't my comment about the 260Z, but you are also correct. 240Zs and 280Zs were HLS30s in the US. 260Zs were RLS30. A series one 240Z emblem for the C pillar is held on by two studs, side by side, ~1.5" apart. Not the triangle shape the holes would make with a later badge. This pic might give you an idea, although it's kinda hard to see. It's the best I've got on hand though.
