  1. I think you can do a lot better than that based on your location. You should try to find the best shell you can.
  2. It's happened before. Someone decided they were leaving, and deleted/edited a bunch of posts, rendering quite a few of the threads they posted in worthless. Rather annoying to be searching a subject, and have a bunch of threads come up with important posts missing, etc.
  3. You can't edit a post after 24 hours (I think). It's basically to prevent people from editing/deleting all their posts, and ruining all the threads they've posted in. If you PM an admin, they'll do it for you.
  4. Best of luck getting it back! Could you post some defining features of the car that would make it stick out? It would probably make it easier to identify it as your sons if someone sees it.
  5. You can still find out what the build date of your car is. Lots of other things in the car are date stamped in some way. If I remember correctly, a few things are the steering wheel, rear view mirror, seatbelts, etc. I forget if I found the info on this site or on classiczcars, but it's out there (and HS30-H probably posted it - just a wild guess). I believe I used the seat belts to find out when my 240z was built.
  6. I've never heard of such a thing, but I asked someone, and apparently this is true for pretty much any car. I've got my 280z completely stripped, so I would think I would have seen it by now, but I guess not, although it must be on something that can't be replaced (like the unibody) in a place somewhat easily accessed. Waiting for someone else to chime in, since I'm curious now.
  7. I believe you CAN get replacement VIN plates, since my 240z didn't come with a door jamb plate. I searched classiczcars.com, probably for something along the lines of "replacement door jamb plate" or something, and eventually found a thread where someone linked to a site that sold them.
  8. As I recall, your windshield broke, which usually means your windshield frame is out of shape, which, to me, means your car is not fixable. Personally, I'd strip it, keep what's good, junk what's not, and just get another shell. It'll be less time and money in the long run, and probably drive better too. I've never heard of a wrecked car driving the same as it did beforehand...
  9. Congrats on the purchase of your '76 280z! However, I bet you'd be happier if it was sold as such, lol. If I were you though, I'd get all that straightened out so you won't get in any legal trouble.
  10. What's the VIN? Shouldn't be hard to figure out if it's genuine or not.
  11. 280z tail panel too, and you could check the rear strut towers, lower rad support, no bumper indents, etc. Sorry to say, but I think there's a reason it was only $200.
  12. Welcome! Looks like you have your work cut out for you. BTW, I think your 240z is actually a late 260z or 75/76 280z.
  13. If you don't mind, could you post or PM me the name of the shop, and what the roof job cost you? I need some rust repair and body work done on my 280z, and my parent's 280z is in need of a reskin if they should ever choose to do so. Thanks.
  14. Sounds familiar. When I was maybe 3 or 4 years old, we were driving to PA, and some kids on an overpass or something threw a good sized rock at our car. It hit about 4-6" below the rear passenger window, where I was sitting. The dent is still there too.
  15. I hope they're paying for shipping...
  16. Almost positive that's cygnusx1's car, in case you haven't found out yet (post is from October). Your progress looks good BTW.
  17. Their rear lower quarter patch could use some improvement. I got a rocker, doglegs, and the rear lower quarters, and they do not fit, AT ALL. Reminds me, I still need to do something about that... Anyway, battery tray as mentioned, maybe the tail light panel under the hatch sill - whatever it is that piece is called. Lower radiator support? I think the battery tray might be the only piece commonly rusted out they don't make.
  18. I PMed him a while ago, and never heard back.
  19. It looks more like its the weather strip, and not the windshield mounting frame.
