Okay, I like this format a lot better. Google ads are actually pretty decent. I actually use their links on the right side bar of my searches. We'll see if they can stay on topic, especially with their bid to buy doubleclick. Admins - I suggest sometimes browsing the site as a guest to see how the ads look and to judge their relevance. (I don't know anything about the control google gives you over what's displayed) Also, I second the notion about showing members (or even only donating members) something roughly indicating the financial state of HybridZ. Even us college students who end up fabbing parts because they can't afford to buy new should be able to cough up something, knowing it's needed.

Larger. Hard Liquor or Beer?

The only Ad that kind of bugs me is the one on the top left of everything. It really cuts down on how much of your browser window you can use to view the forum. Having them under the toolbar may make them more intrusive to some people, but it doesn't interfere with the ease of viewing of the forum itself. -Eric

I'm all in for that Powerwheels Jeep idea. You shouldn't need a welder to do it, unless you want to actually be able to ride in it. Bolting on frame reinforcements should work, and you might want to consider rubber tires rather than the plastic ones those come with. Plus, BRAKES. I've only operated two gas powered vehicles without brakes, one was a 1940s riding lawn mower, the other was a ski boat. Even a simple band brake will go a long way. Have fun, and post pictures!

I think I know what it is, my ZX used to do the exact same thing. It used to go through cooloant FAST, around a half gallon at a time, ever time or two I parked it. What was happening is I'd park the car hot, and there was enough heat soak to cause some of the coolant to boil and overflow the overflow tank. It would then cool off and suck air into the system. I fixed it by letting my car idle down using the turbo timer feature in my remote start/alarm system. If the car is really hot, I'll leave the heat on with the 2min turbo timer. Because of the way the expansion tank sits, the overflow from it dosen't always drain to the ground, but sometimes just seems to dissapear. I first figured out the problem when I was checking my oil with a really hot engine, and coolant started shooting up from the little hole in the overflow cap. Normaly it would take 2-5 mins to start to overflow, but with a HOT engine it will take around 30 seconds. naviathan - if you open your radiator cap cold and it's seriously sucking, you may have too high pressure of a double valve in. The caps have two springs and valves in them, one that opens at the specified pressure to let coolant out, and another that's supposed to open very easily in the other direction to allow coolant to flow back in. Some new caps will allow a large vaccume to develop before sucking coolant, but the OEM ones open easily.

With a nice 8.25 compression ratio (IIRC) and such nice quench, will you be going turbo or NA? Perhaps NA first, than turbo later once the engine is broken in and running well, having gone through a hundred or so heat cycles?

I just remembered I have the "Cars" Soundtrack. Starts off with Real Gone - Sheryl Crow Route 66 - Chuck Berry Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts Those make my list too for things to put on while cruisin with the top down.

When are you comming up? Dream Machines is this comming weekend, you'd absolutely love it, I know I'll be there. http://www.miramarevents.com/dreammachines/lead.html

What are you going to use for a valve cover? Are you going to have to section the ones that came with the heads you sectioned? BTW amazing work, and how did you first even figure out this would work?

Now I'm wishing I had a better scope (not actually needed, but makes life easier) and a clamp on amp probe. Also, do you think MS1s 0.1ms resolution for injector pulses is enough? I would have gotten one already, but after a lot of research I'm thinking MS2 once the Extra code comes to light.
-
VERY nice, thankyou. You wouldn't have any N/A (183cc) injectors to test, would you?
-
Interesting reading: http://yarchive.net/car/injectors.html Without the resistor opening time was 1.25ms. How do the rest of your ZX Turbo injectors look? I'd like to think our parts are made to a decent degree of quality. P.S. Note on quality: Nearly 1500 problems in 1000 cars in three months? This is "On Par"? http://www.thetorquereport.com/2007/04/ford_quality_is_on_par_with_to.html

Those are beautiful. I have family members (in KS) with amazing collections as well, and it's always a pleasure to go hunting (or target/skeet shooting) with them. I have a special place in my heart for .22 rifles, as I learned to shoot (after BB, first real one) on a 30s (IIRC) Winchester pump-action .22 repeater...amzingly rare, and we somehow have two, with sequential serial numbers. They certainly don't make things like they used to. The original wood stocks that were made to last 100 years are so much nicer (IMO) than those artifical things they use these days. BTW, where on earth in the Bay Area can you go to fire those? I'm in Oakland and the last range I knew of that let you use anything high-powered or automatic closed about five years ago.

It is generally considered a bad idea to use airbags that are still charged (having the explosive in them) and aren't properly hooked up to their triggering system. Without the sensor system, airbags can do weird things, especially in an accident. If you get the seats, just remove the air bag and deployment mechanism, putting the cover back in place. Just be VERY careful doing so and make sure you have the PROPER manual with specific instructions for dissarming/removing the unit. Don't just dive in and try to get the thing out. I can't stress enough that airbags have a high explosive charge in them, and CAN go off while being worked on. Sorry to kinda yell, but it's a lot like not smoking around gas fumes.

Whats the one part you want for your Z, but cannot have?

Another Z! Can't get enough of the good stuff! -
LD28 (stroker) crank... for sale on Craigslist!
eec564 replied to mamba_888's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
That ZX he's selling is kind of busted up. The only thing that's good is the engine/drivetrain. I emailed him as I'm still trying to get my hands on a turbo Z (found one, 83 2+2 5spd too!) and the pics he sent me aren't that promising. I can foreward them to anyone here if they want. -
If those magecore wires are solid wires for a hot spark, then they're meant for carbed engines, as non-spiral wound wires will introduce a huge amount of of EMI into the system. Megasquirt uses less than one amp of +12 volts just to run the internal components. The high current MS draws is from ground, as it supplies ground to external components (such as the injectors and coil) rather than +. Ignition noise is the most common problem, and that's generally caused by "hot" wires. Second up is noise from the alternator. Check out MSEFI.com for lots more info, as there are other people who have had this problem, not just us Z guys. Good luck!
