  3. larry, i encountered the same challenge when i was running the 75 tank in my 73. my fix; cut the rubber filler neck, went to local exhaust shop & they let me dig through their exhaust pipe scrap bin. i quickly found the correct diameter pipe to bridge the gap. the pipe was free and it was a cheap, quick and effective fix. i think i used a 4" long piece, do not remember the diameter. bring along the filler neck for proper fit!
  4. i have a nos front bumper for the 73. never mounted, chrome nice but not perfect [was hanging around for many many years. pm or email me if interested and pics.
  5. the z arrived at her new home this past thursday evening. did a quick cleanout yesterday afternoon [before the snow started to fly again]. found some interesting items inside. original window sticker-z arrived to the united states via port of entry at jacksonville, fl january 1971. base price was $3596 + dealer prep & delivery bringing the total to a whopping $3686. color, 907 green, sold by godding & clark motors in gainesville. the z also came with the datsun dealer list, warranty & service booklet and a dealer directory. there is a bit of maintenance history. original owner paid $6.40 for the first oil change [no filter] at 698 miles. car had a/c installed-looks like when new. 2nd owner had installed an aftermarket cassette player and cd changer but hung onto the original am seeking radio. came with zx 6 spoke wheels, as well as the orig steelies and wheel covers. someone had installed weber dual downdraft carbs, car came with the orig su's as well. i plan to put the su's back shortly. didn't have too much time to look the z over but it appears to be in pretty decent shape, showing 119k on the odometer.

  7. i believe that is a jdm 432 exhaust that did not make it outside of japan. saw one awhile back and it was $$$$$$$$$$$
  8. been working on getting another z in the stable-this one is a family project. in the pic are my kids. alan is 13, emma 11 and we'll soon embark on a dad-son-daughter z project. i made them a deal and am splitting everything down the middle for the entire project. the kids have been saving all summer and are ready to put down their hard earned cash in trade to own their first z! began teaching alan how to drive a stick shift summer '07 when he was 11, does pretty well now. emma's turn is this summer. they also both had some "ice" drive time [drifting, donuts, etc.] when we were out watching ice racing a few weeks back. it will be nice that they'll have a car to call their own and something that we did not just give to them. we plan to get all the safety stuff taken care of first and make certain that it is a competent daily driver, then it gets taken apart for paint and bodywork. i'll show them how to organize, bag, clean, restore, prep and more all the parts that are removed. i also have a stash of parts that have been set aside for the project. overall it's in pretty decent shape. dark green, 12/71 mfg date, tan interior [planning to convert to black]. even has the original window sticker and wheel covers! here's the first pic

  10. got the adapter welded in place, tested and it seems to work fine. had to create an "s" bend in the bracket the cable 'pulls on' to align better with the cable. the 2nd pic shows the orientation. showing unmodded vs. modded. showing cable attached to bracket and end to the actuator now to duplicate the same on the other side, get the naked parts plated, put it all together and then [after the roads are salt free again] test the new setup. i've also got to order the brake pads...

  14. edan has worked on a brake stimulus package-for us hbzr's. here's the link http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=144471 update on mine. got the adapter bracket prototype finished and have completed the modification of where the ebrake mounts to the caliper bracket. tomorrow or monday i'll beadblast the bracket and have the adapter welded. once that is done i can mount it to the car and...hope that it works. pics, this shows interference between ebrake cable bracket and q45 halfshaft to stub axle adaptor next shows how i trimmed the oe bracket 'ear' [next to the unmodd'd bracket] in prep for the adaptation to follow... now onto the mocked up pic, shows the cable mounted to adaptor... the adaptor is steel and will be welded to the modified oe bracket. i had to enlarge the bracket to allow the ebrake sheath to properly seat into the spot. adaptor hole is same as the oe bracket that i pulled from the bottom of the strut for the original drum brakes. i wanted it to 'clamp' in place properly using the oe 'c' clip. i'll post pics next week when it's together.
  15. bill, all the reading i have done-both from the hbz braintrust as well as some brake manufacture websites state clearly that you do not want to run a prop valve between the master and front brakes. due to the fact that i am not an engineer i don't understand why but have to take what those who know are stating.
  16. def an early 260 bumper. they look like the 240, spaced out far and with rubber overriders. also, the indentations in the rear qtrs for the bumper are reminicent of the 240, not 280. still, the mfg date will be the confirmation
  17. i am no expert by any means but personally, i don't have a concern with the lack of hubcentricity.
  18. miles & all, couple of challanges. i received my rotors and they had been drilled [for studs] same diameter as the mustang-larger than for our z cars. this resulted in the rotor 'hanging' and not centered [there is no hub to center them as the opening of the rotor is too large for it to be hub centric. i called edan [bajaracer], explained the issue and he quickly corrected it for me=new rotors as well as all rotors going forward will be drilled for the z stud diameter. second, since i am not running stock half shafts the ebrake mount on the mustang caliper interferes with the adaptor which i use to marry my q45 axles to the 280z companion flange. i'm working with a friend of mine whom is a cnc machinest [ztek.mfg, if you have seen his products on fleabay] on a work around for this. as i have been freezing my assets off and our local weather has not been conducive to working in an unheated garage-it is taking a bit longer than i would like. once i have the upgrade completed and am confident it works properly i will post; write up on the 'how to', pics and how to get the adaptor ztek is making for this adaptation. i want to be certain the mount works and it provides the proper clearance for ebrake cable from other interferences. what it involves is trimming the existing ebrake bracket, welding on an adaptor then give it a bit of paint or plating or powercoat and voila. i anticipate the cnc brackets [1 for each side] will be relatively inexpensive and pretty straight forward to weld/attach. after all, this is hybridz-and we are the innovators not imitators!
  19. it's either worth nothing and you should give it to clive or...lots because of the flames on the left front fender and batman air freshner! i agree with the above posts-you need to dig deeper and look-under seats, spare tire well, rocker panels, frame rails, floors from above & below, battery box, etc. this 260z is an early not late, as evidenced by the smaller front bumper-unless it was swapped at some point in it's life. the mfg date will verify this. 770 area code appears to be atlanta georgia
