  1. Ya just never know when you might need something?! Those 1 gal simple green bottles make good used oil containers, or cut out the front section, lay it down and it makes a good parts, or nuts and bolts tray. Not sure about the old steak bones though.....Pete, you got some of those? Tim
  2. Order the swap manual from Jags That Run . It is pretty specific to the 1st gen Z cars, but that will give you a good head start. BTW welcome!! Tim
  3. I've been running a set of dual weber downdrafts on my 240 for several months now after pulling them from a 260 in a JY (20 bucks later ). I know that these are not set up right, and haven't even checked to see what jets are currently in there, but can anyone tell me what the correct (at least best fit) jets are for this setup? I think they are a bit fat right now, but no point pulling everything apart 'til I know what to replace them with. Thanks, Tim
  4. Dan, Have you thought about working at a service garage. I doubt that they would have you rebuiding engines etc, but cleaning parts, basic stuff etc. The $$$ won't make you a millionaire, but think of the fringe benefits (access to tools, knowledge base from the mechanics, and good price on parts bought through the shop). Plus those guys usually have good leads on used parts from the industry. Worth thinking about. Tim
  5. Pete, I think I have you beat man. 2.4L6 4 speed SBC 4Bolt 10 block TH400 DriveShaft for above 12 bolt chevy rear axle unusable L6head 200 4R Every empty container of simple green, oil eater, 1 gal water bottle etc that I have used. Lots of nuts, bolts, brackets, and misc. stuff from a 69 truck I stripped once. Set of 14" slotted AL rims Old hoses, tubing, windows, etc And like you said, lots of pieces of scrap, just waiting to be made into something. Tim
  6. Anyone....Bueller, Bueller.... Maybe someone can tell where to look? Thanks, T
  7. Good point. But just to add to that, make sure that they are completely dry afterwards...maybe spray them out with brake cleen aerosol or something. Then use a dry graphite lubricant (available at any parts store) to lubricate the inside of the lock (where the key goes in). Liquid lubricants make it gummy after a while.Tim
  8. Amen to that. BTW...the flip side to "Great minds think alike" = "Dumb ones never differ" But I prefer the former. Tim
  9. JTROS, Tomahawk Z is correct. The 200 4R is about the same size as the TH350, and the output splines are the same. They can be built to handle a good deal of torque and are fairly inexpensive (more available at the junkyards than the 700R4). The ratio gaps between gears are also better than the 700R4. There are several places that specialize in overdrive trannys....the one that comes to mind is Bowtie Overdives in California. Tim
  10. I often look at my garage and all the 'junk' that I've accumulated over the years and think to myself...."Just throw it away already". However, perfect case in point: My 240Z daily driver's exhaust was completely shot. I had patched it with tape several times, but it was completely rusted out. Well, I happened to STILL have the old system off my truck (2.25"). A little cutting and welding, and 2 new mufflers (cheapest available:Turbo II @ $15, and cherry bomb at $20) and I now have a much beter flowing (compared to the 1.75" system that was on there) and quieter system. I have just reinforced to myself:"Don't throw anything out!! " Only problem is, it took a whole day away from working on the LT1 project. Tim
  11. My $$$ is on the rear tires. Sitting in the same spot for a long time makes them oval. Try switching front to back, or just get them balanced, the tire shop can tell you if they are OOR (Out Of Round). Tim

    What are S&S?

    Here you go. Tim
  13. Jamie, When I pulled mine from the JY (caliper brackets), I put the socket with the power bar(PB) on the nut on the inside of the hub, with the handle of the PB pushing against the ground. Then I put a piece of steel rod between the wheel studs and jumped on it until the nut broke loose. PITA, but not impossible. Tim
  14. Yes, their shipping is free, but they charge a handling fee of $7.95 on each order. That's why if you plan to order stuff from Summit, plan your ordering to get as much as possible on one order, that way the $7.95 can be spread over all the parts. So, it's the difference of $8 on a $20 order (almost 50% of the cost of the part), or $800 order which makes the handling fee only 1% of the cost of the part. Tim
  15. Ya know Dan..."They" say taste in inherited Maybe some of this , or this will take care of things Tim
  16. Davy, Here are the specs: To answer your question: 3" I still need to weld on the collector flanges and O2 sensor bungs (doing today) Thanks, Tim
  17. How much did you pay for them?....if you don't mind? Tim
  18. Mike, It appears to be just a stamped cover, similar to any other Chevy starter I've seen. I don't understand the "stage" reference that you are refering to. Like I said, it looks like just about any other starter that I've seen before. I will be pulling my motor out again (AGAIN!!!), this weekend, I will take some pics if you like. Tim
  19. Mike, Just eyeballed my starter, and yes, it does have the external bolts holding the backing plate onto the armature housing. Tim
  20. Jeremy, I'm with you on the scoop. With as much effort as this guy put into the bodywork, why not do a scoop like this: And why break the mold!!!! What happens if he crashes and needs new body panels!! Doesn't make sense to me. Tim
  21. Mike, Ya think that it's the same designer of the Pontiac Aztek? Tim
  22. Does the light come on when the ign. switch is in the 'on' position? Maybe the bulb is burned out. Tim
  23. There are no words in the English language for this!! Holy crap, Batman!! BTW.. I Love the syncronized puking above! Maybe an Olympic sport soon? here's my contribution: ........ .............. ........ Tim
  24. OK, I understand now. I actually have an unopened set from Harborfreight!!! I guess I'll pop it's cherry on the headers. Thanks, Tim
  25. Rick, It is the OEM Z28 starter. I thought about replacing with a smaller one, but I really wouldn't have gained any extra exhaust clearance because I'm actually about 3/4 inch from the starter, but only about 1/16 inch from the bellhousing. Only having the 2 horizontal pipes makes for much more ground clearance than the 4 into 1 collector. Tim
