Car runs very inconsistent from day to day.
ZDrifter replied to Evan Purple240zt's topic in Nissan RB Forum
Sounds like when your overboosting you have the right air/fuel ratio thats why your seeing no black smoke and its faster. Once its boosting what it should you have too much fuel= black smoke, less power, flooding the cylinders. Yea I would fix that over boosting because if it happens again and you have the fuel set up right....and it runs lean if it over boosts again=boom. Do you not have a boost gauge in the car? -
Alright, giving early notice so we can get as many people to go as possible!! A couple of us Hybridz guys figured it would be a good idea to get some of us all together to get to the pavilions. So the date AS OF RIGHT NOW is SATURDAY OCT. 13TH. Open for suggestions on what time to meet there or if we want to meet somewhere near by so we all drive in together. I will start a list and edit it of the people coming so lets all get together and show off some Nissans!! Last time I was there I met with AKWIKZ and we almost got taken over by civics...so lets get a good amount of people to go this time. Even if you dont have a nissan anything will do just aslong as your a hybridz guy! 1. Zdrifter 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

ZDrifter replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
Full time student 5 days a week. Work close to 40 hours a week 6 days a week. yep....pretty poor still. But the way I see it, if your not working hard its not worth working at all. -

Hmmm I agree with you on heat...Have you washed the car lately or has it rained and you drove it in the rain? I know that with my harness(which everytime I open it up somewhere its cut:cry2:) it will get water in there and make the car miss after I wash it. I would try what you said about making heat shields first since thats an easy way to start off. It seems wierd that when it runs like crap it doesnt show you any different info, infact thats really really wierd. O2 readings arent changing when it goes rich?? Nothing changing at all?? I would check your harness aswell to make sure its not stretching somewhere or rubbing on anything while driving. Hope you find something soon!! -

Is the power fc showing anything abnormal at all?? Check for any possible vacuum leaks at the FPR? Is it an adjustable regulator?? -

Intermediate problem makes me think that a sensor is going out. I would start by checking your coolant temp sensor. Dont know the ohm reading off the top of my head but thats where I would start. If that sensor is going out then it wont let the car go into closed loop and cause it to run rich making it think its running cold all the time. When sensors start to go out they like to work one day and not the next...then finally just die. Hope this helps you out... -
I couldnt resist I gotta pull out the aviators.... And this is the dramatic pic....

Nice runs, always love watchin the videos. I just have to say whoever drives the m3 is damn good at shifting. and DAMN that thing is loud but I love the sound.

I have been trying to decide to take mine out later on but I definitly need some type of defroster.... Right now it seems to just blow warm air, not hot, not cold and it wont switch to blow the air to the defroster vents....dont mean to steal the thread but anyone else have this problem??? I removed the AC so maybe something happened there?? Everthing under the dash is still there, just all AC components out of the engine bay.... Also if constant engine bay air was supplied to the windshield through the defroster vents...would that contain the fogging up of windows in the winter??

Well I do agree you will be faster with an auto tranny...but its up to you what you want...faster or more fun. From what it sounds like you drive it a lot and driving it around with an auto would be easier but not as fun in my opinion. Anything can always be made to be stronger you just have to be creative in doing it. If it were a full drag car I could see going auto, but since you drive it a lot why not stay manual? I would like the feeling of 1st-3rd maybe even 4th burnout while doing the shifting.

Why make it right hand drive in America?? The same reason we put v8, 2jz, rb, sr, etc in our Z's. TO BE DIFFERENT!! but you will be seeing more and more of it these days because of people wanting actual "jdm" cars. I would love to have a right hand drive Z but I wouldnt convert it. Nice lookin 240!!

I was waiting for this thread haha... Ok well to start off I had my Z donated to me by a family friend. It sat in a garage for 15 years under a cover with a bad fuel pump. I then had it towed over to my place and started going at it. I cleaned out the interior, took out the mats pocket change you know the usual...Well what I found behind the seat was a little wierd...hmm a bag?? I lift it....a heavy bag....shake shake....ching ching.... coins??? I open up the bag to find around 30-40 old coins....Interesting. I didnt think much of it and took them inside to look at them. Most of them were a variety of coins from the mid to late 1800's which I thought were pretty cool but ofcourse they need to go back to the original owner. So I gave them back to him and he had totally forgotten they were in there! He had a good laugh about it and I thanked him for the car again. Later I had been thinking about it and decided to go online to see how much they were worth.. So I went on ebay and started searching from what I remember was in the bag. First coin....eh 20 bucks....Second coin....60 bucks hmmm cool cool third coin.....around $250 bucks...Fourth coin around $450 bucks...I had forgotten the different types from there but just think....there were 30-40 of these coins...can you say treasure??

Dont we all, dont we all....sigh.. Anyways!! Clean clean STI. I love those and personally have riddenin a stock 05 and they feel awesome. I hear a lot of people talk smack about them but I am always the first one to stand up for them. Great cars, good find!!!

Not trying to keep you from going auto or anything but there are plenty of high horsepower cars still using manual trannies and launching hard (6-speed supras for example) Im sure there is something you can do to strengthen the rear its just how far you want to go with it. If it were me I would stay with the manual, but I just love having that feeling of shifting in my opinion.

Thanks! Yea Im just trying to get an idea of what it will look like...

Just wanting to see some of my ideas I have for the future if anyone would be kind enough to photoshop them for me. Ok so heres the pic: And this is the color I have been thinking of.... If possible for the first photo could I get this color, the trim taken off the sides of my car and all chrome around windows black. As for the second one picture, could I get everything the same but the chrome on the wheels gloss black and the centers the same color as the car, if possible. Thanks!!

I guess he likes compressor surge and the wheel exploding into a million pieces.

You want the turbo on the right or the left???

Dont forget: Intercooler Piping Driveshaft work (usually shortened depending on engine placement) Transmission mount 200zr oil pan water pump electric fan or custom fan shroud Fuel Pump( Walbro 255 is fine) Misc Electrical Connections for wiring R200 with LSD will work great All other little stuff you will need along the way Anything else I forgot that you will find out you will need along the way Beer for frustration Bandaids for after that frustration is released... Then once you have all that done, you can start buying stuff for 400RWHP

I agree with that! But this video should be renamed to "how to turn a porsche into a mini cooper"

I dont have the experience of blowing motors because of oil pumps but I will tell you what info I have recieved from old school drag racers on this subject. Basically any oil pump other then stock is overkill for the street. Since you will be driving this car on the street(im assuming) you will have the car at idle for periods of time which could starve your motor of oil taking if from the pan and not having it drain back fast enough like your friend said. Stock Oil pumps are will usually do the job since they were designed for the street. Unless you will have the motor at high rpms (drag racing high rpms and rarely idling, circuit racing high rpms most of the time) for long periods of time, the stock one should do. From what I have seen for around 500-600whp- pistons(first thing to go on the bottom end for an RB) rods, bearings, rings, metal or copper head gasket, arp head studs, and replace all gaskets. I may be missing some but thats the majority of what people have that I have seen.
