My true HID retro fit - BMW e46 Bi Xenon
RB26powered74zcar replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Update: Finally got it all buttoned up, and took it out for a spin tonight. I will be tearing it all back out again shortly. I've aquired a pair of the Acura TL projectors, which are considered the best oem projector out right now, so I will be swapping the BMW e46 set up for them, soon as I feel like going thru all this again... -

My true HID retro fit - BMW e46 Bi Xenon
RB26powered74zcar replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
It will all fit back in the modified headlight bucket. There is a lot of hacking and modifying to make this work. I'm confident it will clear my wheels, as I'm only gaining a couple inches... I will have everything bagged up and tucked up and out of the way underneath the plastic fender protectors. Yes, I plan to drive it at any time. This really is something that has to be done as you go, with the car right there. I don't think I could pull it off for you via the mail... sorry. -
My true HID retro fit - BMW e46 Bi Xenon
RB26powered74zcar replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
I used a new pair of the AutoPal 7" housings, and cut the back side out for the BMW e46 projectors to fit into the 7". I used a pair of the ZKW repo crystal clear lens inside the e46 projectors. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-ZKW-REPLICA-CLEAR-LENSES-TL-BIXENONS-HID-PROJECTORS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ36476QQihZ019QQitemZ290241411674QQtcZphoto The Acura TL projector is a lot different look/shape than the e46. Its more of a enclosed projector. I'm buying a pair, and another pair of the AutoPal housings to do a retro with those. I used everything from the BMW lights I bought (housing, ballast, igniter, Phillips bulbs). -
Just try and find out what you had in there already. That will help get you up and running the quickest. If you can somehow jack it up enough to get us some pictures, we can see what you need as far as replacing the stock rear, so you can then plan out a better option. If you just go back in with what you had (either a R180 or a R200) you can get by pretty cheap for now. Even if its the smaller R180, plenty of guys have made do with that diff (taking it easy on it of course) until they can afford/decide on a up grade... Get some pics up for us to see what you have there!!!

My true HID retro fit - BMW e46 Bi Xenon

Thanks Justin! yea, yours has always made me want to do something with a Bi Xenon set up. I hadn't thought of blacking out the chrome on the H4 headlight... that might just look good. I have not buttoned up the front lens yet on the old H4, so I can still get at it and black it out... we'll see... I will take some pics of the back side. They are aprox 2-3" closer to the wheel. I opened up the back side of the head light bucket. I just need to seal it back up. Thats all. My complete car has been re wired with a painless knock off harness, so this would not have strained it, but to make things closer to a plug n play, I bought a HID harness a guy on the HID retro fit forums makes, and they are killer for the price and ease of use. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PLUG-N-PLAY-HID-RETROFIT-HARNESS-H4-FOR-ALL-BIXENONS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ36476QQihZ020QQitemZ300236731463QQtcZphoto -
I've been poking at this project for 2 years now, but finially got around to doing the install. When I bought the e46 BMW Bi Xenon complete headlights for a retro fit, they were real popular with the retro crowd, but I since learned there are much better projectors out there to use instead of the e46 projectors. The hot lick now are the Acura TL Bi Xenon projectors, that have a much better beam pattern. I went ahead and used these cause I did a couple mods to them that helps the output. I bought a pair of clear ZKW replica lens, and a pair of custom water cut cut off shields, that after I swapped them out, looks much crisper, and the cut off line is nice and strait across. The lens that came on them were slightly opec, and the cut off shields slopped downward on the ends, making the cut off light slope down on the ends... I will try and finish up this weekend, and take some beam shots on a wall somewhere. I did take a couple shots last night (just one projector), before I put them in the buckets, just to see what they looked like on a neighbors shop wall. More to come...

Looks great!!

I forgot to update, so heres a few more. I had to send the pieces that fit under the seat back to be re cut (I sent a pattern I made) and they re made them to my pattern and returned them asap. I did not use the door sill pieces due to me having a new oem pair of the vinyl pieces. Anyone with a 240/ early 260 should be able to get the correct pieces, now that they have my correct patterns to go off of. This is not a top shelf quality kit, but for the money, you can't beat it. I'm real pleased with what I got for the money, and it looks good to.

Polishing aluminum
RB26powered74zcar replied to KTM-EXC's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Roye, what would you suggest the best way to attack re polishing these new CCW's I screwed up by leaving them on the car while I had the engine bay soda blasted? The soda powder was rinsed off with water, but I did not wipe them dry and the soda etched water spots into the polished alum... Thanks ahead for any advice! -
RB25/26 Single Turbo Manifold Interest
RB26powered74zcar replied to BirdmanZ's topic in Nissan RB Forum
I bought a pretty nice single manifold from a guy in Japan for $400 delivered, but I'd take one of yours too if avail. This pic below is of the manifold shown on a RB motor as a test fit shot over in Japan before sending it to me. -
Nice score.... I had that exact same type of set up lined up to buy a couple months ago from a chump in Texas for $300, but he weaseled out of the deal.... You got a great deal on that for sure, even if it turns out to be a SS (doubtful)
-
Thanks Gabe. I like the carpet too.... even though I had to have them re-cut the pieces under and right behind the seat. I just made him a pattern, and had the new 4 little pieces the next week in the mail. Great service from Ben's Auto in Newark N.J.. The rubber kit came from VB. I used a hand held hole punch (for paper) to cut the 1/2 circles out of the bottom edge on the door seals, so water would drain out from under the rubber. They did close kinda hard at first, for a short while. Appreciate that!! The only thoughts I've entertained, was swapping the black door panels, for a Tan pair. But I'm pretty sure the tan on the seats, would be a different shade than the tan from our older Z car interior.... Thanks, I'll let you know if they become avail.
-
Thanks Evan! the tan really washes out when I try and take a pic to show how nice the color actually is. The seats really are not a black leather like advertised. The are a deep dark chocolate brown leather (almost black) and the center is almost a caramel/tan leather. I thought I would regret the purchase due to the color, but its growing on me now....
-
Yes, they are noticeably higher than the DADs seats were. If I lean the back half forward, the top of the head rest hits the sun visor slightly. They could stay this way though, if I wasn't so used to my legs being almost extended strait out with the other seats. It actually made my calf muscle go into a spasm while working my twin plate clutch, and that never happened in the other seat position.
-
I finally got around to installing my new leather seats I stole off eBay for $152.00 > http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190227827139&rd=1 They really are designed to be installed onto the floor. I did not want to go through the removal of the seats brackets welded to the floor right now, so I just put them on top of them for now. It makes them around 3 inches higher this way, and I can not use the driver side electrical seat height adjustment, due to the head rest hitting the roof if I raise the seat any more. They will do as is for now, until I feel like removing the seat brackets. I think the colors kind of break up the all black look I had before I put the gun metal carpet kit in, and the blk/tan seats. I think it even goes good with the red paint... whata you think??

New headlights that bolt right up!!!
RB26powered74zcar replied to dizzle's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
You are correct. Those are not anything close to real HID. They are much much better than the sealed beam that came on the Z though. I bought a pair of the Ecode lights from a guy off zcar dot com named H4lights, and installed them with a relay kit, and they are 100% better than regular sealed beams. I'm in the middle of a true HID retro fit right now. I'm using e46 Bi Xenon BMW housing/projectors with D2S bulbs and ZKW lens. Its quite involved, but its the real deal and much cheaper than buying those pre made bubble looking ones linked above... I'll post pics soon as I'm finished with them. -
Booyah.... she sounds wicked !!
