  1. The JDM S130 I imported had that front spoiler on it. Had Nismo and Kakimoto stickers on it too Am using a slotted type spoiler now so might sell the original but its cracked and I'm in Oz.
  2. Yeh thats good info, thanks. Have a DETT flywheel, clutch and crank that I'd want to use, mainly because the flywheel is a custom steel job and the eight bolt setup would be more secure. The next thing to look at would be crank snout fit I understand, might wait until a W series VG30E is found so it can be measured up at the front.
  3. The big Nissan turbo box, the FS5R30A, is virtually unobtainable in AU but the Z32 box is readily available. So I'm wondering if the Z32 box will bolt up to the single cam VG block. I know that the shifter is different but thats not a problem. If it does bolt up are there any other considerations? Basically I'm looking at building a big power VG30ET but without a suitable gearbox its not a proposition.
  4. Its probably a show car or whatever they call them in Japan, done for a certain style rather than everyday practicality.
  5. There, that shows what can be done with a little bit of thoughtful work appearance wise with the S130. Look at the proportions of that car too, better than the S30, says an ex S30 owner That is a damm good looking car.
  6. Agree 100% about a lack of attention to the front end while there is a lot of discussion concerning the rear. Careless I think is looking at adapting the S13 front end which is a lot better than the S30's and has great aftermarket support. On the rear end I made a set of LCA's something like the Modern Motorsports ones but triangulated. This was done simply to get some negative camber and to have the means to adjust toe for circuit racing. They worked very well but agree are not necessary for only road use. EDIT: to answer the question I like the MM design best but for me the box shape part would have to be triangulated.

  8. Wooo, that could have been very nasty. Vaguely remember hearing of a steering lock jamming before, not sure though. Anyway my project Z is a JDM, no steering lock, and thats the way its going to stay.
  9. I wasn't going to say anything about the flares on that Ralston Z but its personal opinion, so it doesn't matter They don't look that good at all, particularly in the front where they don't blend in with the spoiler. I'm not sure that that style of flair can be made to really suit and blend with the S30's styling no matter how much effort goes into them, I've yet to see one anyway. On the other hand the ZG flairs look great, maybe they could be extended a bit although as they stand how much wider with your wheels do you want to go? After a point it starts to look ridiculous, once again the S30's styling must be considered to give a balanced result.
  10. Yeh this should be in the Suspension section so more people are aware of it. If I was doing another fairly powerful engine swap into a S30 a S13/14 front end would be a priority. It is a superior setup with a better stronger suspension design with lots of aftermarket support, dampers, brakes, etc. It may take a bit of fabrication work but the S30's chassis needs beefing up anyway, its too flexy for a poweful engine, say 300whp or more. The rear end is not so critical, particularly given the improved aftermarket support of late.
  11. At our 2003 Z nationals track day the local dealer brought out a 350Z for us to do a few laps in. Putting it in perspective I'd raced the 220whp 260Z that day and done OK. Hops into this thing and what can I say, you Yanks have a lot to answer for, a lot
  12. At Tsukuba, had to happen http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=1gRaO69vfuU&feature=user
  13. Its not particularly Japan, any freight across the Pacific is expensive. EG MSA quoted me US$300 to ship a mid size rear spoiler to the East coast of AU. And that spoiler is a lot smaller than one of the slotted ones people are wanting here. But the postal services, eg USPS, are a lot cheaper than the commercial freighters like FedEx, up to half their price I've found.
  14. Depends how strong they are because most of the demand for them would be for racing. Anyway, let us know how you go.
  15. Yeh I guess 'ultimate' is a relative concept, was thinking of a 300-350 whp project that your average modder could do within some sort of budget without going over the top. Something nicely balanced that would be fun to drive yet quick enough all round to do good circuit times. Agree with you about the brakes Jon, thats part of the balance thing. On the S13 front end thing, vid of a S13 getting turn in like I could only dream about with the Zed, its a daily driver NA with slightly lowered stock suspension
  16. Feeling a bit pissed off with the S130 project so some thoughts about what could have been done with the 260Z instead, FJ20ET engine, Torsen type LSD, etc. Body was too flexy so.....anyway....this is what maybe could have been done to it, after seam welding the body etc. Ignoring engine choices but say 3-350 WHP for a dual purpose road/circuit car Keep strut suspension but drop it all down, look at keeping roll centers around stock, rear higher than front for sure. Look at using S13 front X member and struts, lots of after market support and superior stock geometry, different strut bar location points not a real problem. Not sure what would be the best way to lower the rear outer LCA pivot point but thats mere detail. Brakes? Plenty of options around now, choices has really improved in the last few years. Wheels? Big 17"? Although in the US you have a wide range of 15" tyres. Anyway thats enough, all I'm saying is that choices and potential for the S30 have never been better. Take advantage of it and build an arse kicker .

    4wd 240z

Here is a pic of it, note the truck 4WD wheel hubs. Beautiful it aint.
  18. The 1.5" ride height difference would be crucial to me, given all the other factors you have mentioned. Not only for the lower C of G but the potential aero benefits, something a lot of S30 punters don't seem to pay much attention to
  19. Heard that someone was putting a de Dion axle into a Datsun 1600/510 but that was it, no more info. The only advantage I can think of compared to IRS is it could be setup to easily change the roll center.
  20. Here is one pricing example http://www.mmsport.com.au/MoTec_Engine_Management.php present exchange rate ~87 Aussie cents to one Yankee dollar.

Nissan truck 4WD drivetrain (Patrol?) with a Chev V8 donk I've heard, some say its a Nascar engine. A hillclimb specialist its pretty well the fastest closed car around, beats a lot of open wheelers too. Wing would be functional. Can't be more definate in the details, lots of contary intrawebs type info around on it
  22. MoTec M600 for the project car's VG30DET engine, the FJ20ET engined 260Z I used to have had a M4. Luckily the MoTec tuner who does V8 Supercar engines is just 20 minutes away
  23. Search feature is a wonderful thing, all been dicussed before http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=106345&highlight=zealand US$1120.00 for the spoiler and freight from NZ, then
  24. Great find and thanks for putting it up. That multilink rear end looks like its off a S13, its certainly not S14.
  25. M6x1.0? Not sure about the 1.0 bit because I only ask for M6 bolts.
