  1. Not Greenstuff, Lucas if you can get them or one of the Axxis range (which are AU Bendix) but maybe not the Ultimates which are a decent road/track pad but a bit hard on rotor wear. In AU they have a 4WD pad.
  2. The influence of the front bumper on airflow is an interesting one, there seems to be a trend (in AU anyway) to run competition S30's without one. Thats in classes where very few non standard tweaks are allowed. Eg here is the S30 which won its class in this years Targa Tasmania.
  3. I've seen a couple of high boost applications where a 12-15 lb spring actuator has been used successfully, internal wastegate if that is relevant. But I am no turbo expert
  4. If there was a difference in ride height between the two cars that would explain some/all of the difference. The lower car would have less airflow going underneath it which would result in less lift.
  5. Bugger used Porsche calipers, I've heard that they have a use by date. IMHO like most things Porsche the hype exceeds the performance anyway
  6. StopTech promote their caliper rigidity and from the look of them they could be right. Problem is the calipers are so big wheel fitment becomes a problem. Below is a pic of their big brake kit fitted to the S14 front suspension of project car. Those US Brake ones look like they could be good too. ]
  7. Having received more feedback on the LS2/7 coils it seems that they are very good and unlikely to be the direct cause of the missfire. So the tuner will do more work with them, in particular a table of some sort, if all else fails then I'll give those BMEP coils a go, thanks again John.
  8. Here is another link relevant to a powerful S30, note the discussion about anti roll bars. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=133153
  9. Under the free trade agreement, anything from the US which is made in the US is free of import duty, but still subject to GST of 10% if its over A$1000 which includes freight cost. It seems if its a bit over $1K Customs sometimes miss it or can't be bothered. I've bought a lot of stuff from Summit who are OK to deal with but tend to pack stuff in big boxes which ups the freight cost. Pegasus are great to deal with, they send you several freight cost quotes before sending the order. USPS is always the lowest.
  10. Particularly when you have a powerful engine, at least for circuit work, I have no autocross experience. Case in point. Friend of mine has a nothing special daily driver S30 with a stiffened body and a heavy but fairly powerful Ford Falcon straight six engine. Since we fitted a 25mm front bar and removed the rear he has been cleaning up nearly everything on wheels, including the usual big dollar Euro pretenders. Car pushes a bit in the high speed corners but he drives around that, importantly the corner exits are great so he carries good speed onto the straight bits.
  11. No Customs duty on shipments under A$1000 into Oz, no other taxes either. Except the 'long distance' tax
  12. Others will have more experience with your type of engine/chassis combo but I know that it does not take much to bring on the sort of handling you describe with a S30. Obviously check wheel alignment, bit of toe out on the front. Dampers may now benefit from heavier valving, up the spring rates a bit to take advantage of the stiffer chassis. But it may not take much to improve it a lot, start with the obvious things.
  13. Thanks for that John, problem is I don't know how to evaluate the potential performance of a coil. Anyone used the coils John has mentioned?
  14. Why not look at a complete Z31 turbo rear end swap? Five stud wheels, bigger brakes, better suspension design........... All you have to do is work out how to fit it and if the track will be OK for what you are doing.
  15. My coils have been identified as LS2/7 coils and MoTec say they are already running at maximum capacity, what a bastard. Any recommendations for better, much better, coils with built in ignitors?
  16. Thanks ktm, a couple of tuners have suggested ~6ms. Be interesting to see what MoTec recommend, will post that up in due course.
  17. Breaking down = engine missfire cured by reducing the stock spark plug gap, leads are new high performance type. Car was having its initial dyno tune, got no reason to doubt that the AFR was good, the tuner does all sorts of mainly Euro high performance stuff but has no previous experience with these coils.
  18. Seems to be a lot of conflicting comment around about LS coils, mine are the LS5/7 type and are breaking down ~6000rpm/15psi boost, VG30DET motor. It may be the dwell time which is the issue. I've been told they will run to 8ms no problem, presently they are set for less than 5. MoTec are going to test a coil to see what they will take without overheating. Any experiences?
  19. Mate, details of engine mounts are your last concern, mere mechanical detail in the great complicated scheme of things. I know what I'm talking about, check my project which finally made it to the dyno yesterday. But LS is an excellent choice, go for it if you have the $ and the patience.
  20. Am using a set of GM LS coils with built in ignitors on the VG30DET, driven directly by a MoTec M600. Problem is they are breaking down ~6000 rpm with stock spark plug gaps. A friend suggests that the problem may be caused by an incorrect constant charge time, he suggests 5ms. To check this out the car has to go back on the dyno so any informed opinions would be helpful. The coils look different to those used on Corvettes, they are used on family type vehicles so may be a lower capacity? If the present coils are unsuitable for 450whp @ 7500rpm then please advise.
  21. Story is that I fitted some LS coils to my VG30DET conversion but they are breaking down at peak load. They are not Corvette coils but rather off your family type GM cars so I guess they were made to do the job required which does not extend to my application. Anyway I'm after recommendations for replacement LS type coils with the built in ignitors. I know MSD do some but am wary of their product and they are expensive.
  22. From an amateurs perspective I don't try to understand all the theory when it get complicated, with an understanding of the basics you will usually be ahead anyway. So I find that by looking at the front wheels with them turned to various degrees its possible to see what is happening, measuring the angles helps too. With my S14 front suspension the struts are offset, unlike the S30's which are straight. That looks like it will affect steering angles as well. So we have Ackermann, camber, toe, caster and that, all contributing. Going to check all this with the Fastrax alignment kit in due course.
  23. That would be a VG30ET motor, not a VG30DET I think. It would be a good swap and would fit OK but if you have to pay others to do the work then start saving.
  24. Yeh the genuine ones are mostly in collections now, ones that race are replicas.
  25. You couldn't use the 240SX lower control arms and modify them if the tension rods are out or whatever? Don't feel qualified to give an opinion on what you have done.
