  1. The GTR boys swear by Lightweight Shockproof, I'll be using it in the Z32 box. For ordinary use either the MT or MTL should be good, as Tim described.
  2. Think you'll find the E/ET has a six bolt flywheel, DE/DET/DETT has an eight bolt job. Eight bolt forged crank sound good?
  3. Alan, you really need to put your store of knowledge and pics into some sort of permanent and accessible form, particularly that which is relevant to homlogation issues. From what I've read in this forum over time and what the situation is in AU there is a severe lack of documentation for the S30. For example, its almost universal in AU that S30's are allowed only the early BRE type aero aids and nothing more. Wheels sizes are another problem, surely there are records of S30's racing officially with wide wheels. I don't have a S30 anymore but there are alot still being used in competition, particularly the Targa type events. Basically they are handicapped out of most winning opportunities.
  4. According to Wiki the VG30E(W) made 165 hp, 183 ft/lb while the DE made from 185 to 227hp depending on application. So there is not much difference there given the DE has a much better intake arrangement. As a comparison the VG30DET made from 222 to 255 hp, 198 to 236 ft/lb depending on application. Its a given that a good four valve will always outflow a good two valve, question is which motor is the most suitable for the purpose in mind. The four valve is heavier, bulkier and more difficult and expensive to work on and modify. Those factors can be very relevant in the real world.
  5. I've seen too many stockish S13/14's do times around a circuit that a stockish S30 can only dream about. Obviously that is not all about the differences between the two strut front suspensions but from all accounts the later models front suspension works very well. Adapting it to a S30 though could be problematical as I indicated, depending on engine clearance and so on. Of course it may be easier to adapt a crossmember mounted double wishbone type from another car, depending on the track required. Another alternative is to fabricate something up using this stockcar stuff http://www.howeracing.com/Chassis/Index-Front.htm
  6. Put S14 front and back under my S130, from memory the R32 has similar multilink rear suspension to the Z32 and S13 while the S13 front is similar to but not the same as the S14. If you are prepared to change to front tension rods and the rear located steering rack is no problem then I'd suggest S13/14 front. Alternatively it may be possible to mix and match parts, the struts and axle assemblies are the important S13/14 bits although the rear located rack give you Ackerman.
  7. Any Nissan V6 > Ford Essex V6, so why bother?
  8. There is this http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/1/655430 The ad appeared in Z Car magazine spring '96. The phone number then for CAM was (714) 646-6414 although the ad does not specifically say that CAM built the engines.
  9. I'd look at marine epoxy resin based fillers, they have strong adhesive properties, can be waterproof and light weight. Lots of tech around on them. But there are probably automotive products around too which would do the job.
  10. My impression is that flow rates cannot be accurately compared between different heads, unless the same flowbench is used and conditions are similar. Re the VG30E I'd look for information on race engines and how they performed but such info seems almost nonexistent. Have not been very helpful have I, its frustrating because the subject is an interesting one.
  11. Front looks S130'ish, not a bad thing.
  12. It seems to go quite well but the car's performance is not all due to power, great mid corner speed and corner exits.
  13. This one was posted on this forum a while ago, Z driver is in his 70's. I just like the way he drives the car, fast but smooth. And this one is a stockish daily driver NA S13, note the incar phone Vid shows how good both car and driver are.
  14. S30 is basically a very reliable car although compared with a modern car a bit more tiring to drive over long distances. As Warren indicated maintenance is everything, an hour or two test drive under highway conditions would be good to check everything is OK too. Plenty of us in our club have driven S30's long distances eg two 10 hour days.
  15. Yeh, 80's good time, just one example Hey Little Girl by Icehouse, vid is a bit cheesy, suck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLukIeMLwZ0
  16. There is a personal import arrangement where late model LHD cars can be brought in by visitors for personal use. You would need to get specific as to what you want to bring in, for how long, etc. General regulations on what mods can and can't be done are apparently harsh and complicated compared with the US, there are Federal requirements plus State requirements which vary between States. Basically its a mess.
  17. As Jon said there are cheap options in competitive motorsport, I've done circuit sprints which are probably better recognised in the Northern hemisphere as time attack? Anyway, a bunch of cars are let loose on a circuit to see who can do the fastest lap. I know blokes with fairly stock R tyre shod Zeds who do a series at bugger all cost, providing the car is well maintained and doesn't overheat or otherwise die due to a lack of love. They are highly competitive types, always trying to beat each other yet there are no kidneys sold to finance their passion. Does that help?
  18. In my experience, which is far from complete, the S30 tends to snap oversteer in the wet. As far as I could work out the contributing factors were too big a rear ARB and insufficient bump on the rear dampers. Agree with your choice of a complaint suspension setup.
  19. So to clarify the situation, are you inquiring as to what S30's used or other cars as well? Because Porsche used all sorts of 'big stuff' and if you could copy them................. In AU Porsche can use all sorts of 'big stuff' which other cars can't
  20. The FMIC on my S130 is having diffuser sections welded to it front and back, when its done I may be able to put up a pic if anyone is interested. It sits in front of the radiator so this has influenced the design.
  21. That taking a bit of metal off thing is the bit I'm not too keen on. Who knows, it may be possible to use Z32 parts at the front too.
