  1. I'd definitely like to know more about your setup also. What are you using for fuel/management and inter cooling. Also what turbo?
  2. no prob, i think i've got it all figured out now too.
  3. Another fan that was recommended by a friend: Ford Windstar fans. He has one in his 1970 chevelle, and apparently there pretty popular in th chevelle world. Wouldn't work for me though because the shroud would interfere with the charge pipe.
  4. It also allows you to fit more rim/rubber under the fender.
  5. The noise just tells me its workin:burnout:I think its worth the piece of mind spending a few extra dollars and buying local.
  6. Well I just talked to a local speed shop and they have Proform 12" fans for 60$ each, which I imagine wouldn't be that much more than the 15$ ebay fan after shipping and duty. Anyone have any experience with Proform products?
  7. Another idea I had in mind was to run 2 controllers (once I have a couple more bucks to spend). I each one would be set to go on at different temps, so that at both fans aren't always running.
  8. Well I was thinking I'd just find a shop with a metal break to do it. All i had in mind was something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Summit-381106-Fan-Shroud-Aluminum-Natural-14-in-Diamet_W0QQitemZ320186518391QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320186518391 but with openings for the 2 fans
  9. ^looks great. I was thinking of have a crude shroud bent up and using that to mount them also. I take it you've had no problems with the fans?
  10. That crossed my mind too. I can't remember the user name on here, but I like how he combined the stock tailights with r33 lights, however I'd try and get them a little more flush.
  11. A few of these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12-S-BLADE-ELECTRIC-FAN-1200CFM-REVERSIBLE_W0QQitemZ200178826864QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200178826864 I think I'll go for it, for 30$ for 2 I can't go too wrong. Also, when using fans, can only one controller be used? What controllers are recommended? I'm on a tight budget, but obviously reliability is a must..
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll go for dual ebay fans. My biggest worry with them is reliability and draw on the electrical system. I can live with noise, its not like the stock fan isn't noisy either (sounds like a school bus on light acceleration with stock exhaust).
  13. hmm, might not look so bad without all the ugly but seriously, put the bumper back on, put some better fitting tires (taller and wider), scrap the exhaust and stuff on the hood and that would be a wicked looking car.
  14. I'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks the tailights on a 280zx are the weak link visually. I've seen a few interesting ideas on here already, but how bout a thread to compile all the different ideas out there. Lets see what you've got/can find
  15. I'll just be using a stock ZX rad. Since I have an extra I think I'll get one cleaned.
  16. I did search. I could find lots on the taurus fan, but couldn't find any threads about people using the generic ebay fans. Does anyone have dimensions for the taurus fan and shroud? And my main concern with the ebay fans is reliability. I'd hate to be stranded because it burned out on me. I can't see it moving less air then a name brand unit, and it wouldn't be hard to bend up a simple shroud out aluminum if it doesn't draw enough air through the rad on its own.
  17. I am doing an intercooler install in a 280zxt, and will need to get rid of the stock fan and shroud to fit a charge pipe between the rad and motor. I was originally thinking of the taurus fan as there a dime an dozen in junkyards, and I imagine they're not too expensive. Browsing around ebay though there are lots for dirt cheap. I was wondering if anyone has experience with them, and whether or not they are worth it. heres a few examples: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16-Curved-Blade-Reversible-Electric-Fan-w-Mount-Kit_W0QQitemZ190179876960QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190179876960 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9-inch-Electric-Cooling-Fan-W-Mount-Kit_W0QQitemZ320189035777QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320189035777 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/10-Curved-Blade-Reversible-Electric-Fan-w-Mount-Kit_W0QQitemZ190180139359QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190180139359 Another concern is whether or not the taurus shroud will actually buy me enough room for a charge pipe (I have yet to look at one in person). And for the ebay fans, what sort of diameters and CFM's should I be looking for? I was thinking of dual 10's without a shroud, but not sure how my alternator would handle it.
  18. Anyone have more pics of it, like with the hood closed?
  19. Check out the car to the left of the bosozuko s13 spaceship. If I'm not mistaken, thats a s130 with some pretty sweet looking fender flares. I wish i could find a picture of the whole thing
  20. Well i'll be attempting a flattop turbo build this winter. Well not so much a build. I have a rusted out 83 turbo, and a clean 83 N/A, both with relatively low mileage at 152XXX kms each. I sandwiching the n/a shortblock between the p90a head and turbo oil pan, with all the other turbo goodies along with a fmic, z31 ecu/maf, bigger injectors and ka24 throttlebody. The car will be built as a summer daily drive and a weekend auto-x rig, that should also embarass most of what i encounter on the street. Nismopick: I though the oem flattop pistons where the weak link in boosting a NA block? Wouldn't a set of a/m forged pistons be a pretty good substitute for that expensive list of parts in your post?
  21. Since i'm not looking for huge power figures (yet), i figured i'd build the motor for response. I figure (correct me if I'm wrong), with the same compression, better flowing exhaust, replacing the afm with a maf, deleting all the emissions garbage, and bigger tb, i'd have the same, of not more power off boost then i running the motor NA in stock form. That should make for a pretty responsive feel even with a larger turbo.
  22. I did search but i came up somewhat inconclusive. This was the post got me a little worried though: This is the only mention i could find of this problem. I'm not doubting braap's knowledge, he pretty clearly knows his stuff. I'm just wondering if theres something missing hear, like at what power levels or exhaust temps this problem starts to occur. Keep in mind i plan on using flattop pistons, so that will likely be a limiting factor in how much power i can make. Edit: It just hit me now, yeah, that p90's got a turbo cam. And being a hydraulic lifter head the cam won't work in the p79. I guess i'm leaning towards the p90 again. My biggest worry is dropping the timing chain down into the into the front cover. I guess with the motor out this shouldn't be a hard job.
  23. Bet the thrust from the exhaust knocks a few tenths off the et:mrgreen:
  24. Forgot to mention as well, my concern is in the exhaust port liners. I've heard conflicting reports on here as to weather or not they will hold up to the added exhaust temps generated by boost.
