  1. My 83 zx is running quite rich, when i pulled the plugs they were coverd in black soot, the exhaust is very "dense" and smells very strong, and my buddy even commented on the smell driving behind me. The CEL isn't on, and the car runs pretty well, however the the revs do waver, and the the car shakes occasionally on start up (particularily when its hot). Where should i begin to look? ps: my airfilter is a little dirty, but that wouldn't change afr's would it?
  2. One more question, once its lower, how do i correct the camber? its already off in both the front and rear.
  3. Thanks for the replies dhale. So coilovers are sounding like a little more hassle then i first expected. Are aftermarket performance struts short than stock? All the lowering springs i've found are only 1" to 1.5" drop, and i was hoping for about 2" or so.
  4. So i'm thinking its prolly not worth picking up the 1980 motort then. The main reason i wanted it was for the intake manilfold, but how rare are these 1975 manifolds without egr? I will likely be buying that 82 turbo parts car later this summer, which would have a p90 correct. I think i remember reading that only 83's came with the p90 with hydrolic lifters, which it sounds like i should steer away from. And from what i read on here, the p79 has a coating in the exhaust ports which can't handle the extreme exhaust temps of boost, and will peel away and cause havoc on everything. Another question, do all intake manifolds flow the same? or are some better then others?
  5. Well i also have a line on a 82 turbo parts car. Would that be a p90 head? I talked to a few local who have swapped l28et's into there s30's, and they say its cheaper and less hassle to just turbo my motor, as i would use very few parts off the stock motor (f.i. parts, dizzy, ecu, etc.) I think it would be work to to pick up the parts car (which i can get for less then 1k), swap the engine in, and work from there. Whats your opinion? Reliability is a big factor too, as this is my summer daily driver.
  6. So i'm planning a turbo swap for this winter, and its time to start hunting for parts. I still am not sure weather i will be finding an l28et to drop in, or turboing my existing motor. Anyways, i found an l28e locally, from a 1980, with a n42 head. The price: a 24 or rickards. Sounds like a good deal to me, but i'm not to sure how usefull the motor would be to me, especially considering the hassle of transportation and storage. From what i (re)searched on hear, the the p79 head thats in my 83 cannot handle boost, something to do with a coating in the exhaust ports. How does the n42 compare to the p90 performance wise? And lastly, would this motor have egr? I am looking for a non egr intake manifold so i can clean up my engine bay somwhat. Plus it would be nice to have a spare manifold, so i can get started on cutting out the webbing, polising, and adding a 60mm tb and billet fuel rail.
  7. Well my car needs new struts, but i figured while i'm at it, i'll lower it, then i figured, while i'm at it, i might as go for coilovers, for the adjustability and smaller diameter springs to fit wider tires. I just want to modify the stock housings with a a threaded coller and universal 4" coils.
  8. Alright, well word is there is a 280zx at the wrecker (very rare occurance around here), so i think i'm gonna pulle the struts off it and try and tackle some custom coilovers. I'd like to know what my options for strut cartridges are, since i don't want to butcher a new set of performance struts. edit: and coupe and 2+2 struts are the same right?
  9. Damn i want those opel lights on my zx!
  10. As of today, I'm being payed to break stuff. I'm a materials testing lab tech.
  11. I'll start: Just got some new tires yesterday so i had to incinerate the old ones of course. Lets see yours
  12. I agree, they do look nice but if those are the electically adjustable ones, they weigh a ton. Like 80 lbs a piece iirc.
  13. Cool, the grid thing is actually what i had in mind. I think i have some scotchbright and some steel lying around, i'll have to give it a whirl.
  14. I was thinking of that as a finish for a stereo bezel. How hard is it to do? I've got a drill press, but how do you space the cirles appart evenly?
  15. Miata seats would be a good swap as the look very similar to the 1st gen Z seats, but obviously with a modern touch and headrest speakers. I think i'll be doing fiero seats in my zx.
  16. Just a spyder shutter with a red dot sight for me. Been about 3 years since i last played. In total i only played about 5 games or so. I'm thinking i might get into airsoft instead, as there is an indoor urban tactial course near my place.
  17. 5 liter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GZ_engine definately unique, but its classified as an economy engine.
  18. Doubt that tranny would cost all that much. Around here, a 7mgte with a tranny is usually around a grand or so. This is an area where these supras average around 8 grand in price, so i'm sure stateside their dirt cheap.
  19. I am currently looking for coilovers for my 83 2+2 as well.
  20. This is hybridZ. That 5m sounds pretty sweet, so my vote is for that. You also score some major originality points.
  21. I'd like to do that too, but my worry as that it would be a fire hazard, as the fuel rail sits right above the exhaust manifold. If the injector seals leaked, it would be dripping fuel onto the hot exhaust manifold.
  22. As much as i love toyota, they killed subaru. I think this new line up looks cheap, the past bodystyles were unique and aggressive looking.
  23. lol, i'm in the same boat. I am enjoying unemployement, but i'll be at work full time when school's done in 3 weeks
  24. is the lexus badge your own doing?
