  1. I picked up a 83 turbo parts car last weekend to swap into 83 n/a. All it took to get it started was draining a replacing the old fuel and and oil (car sat abandoned for 2+ years), a quick boost from piece of crap 300A booster pack, with NO battery. Well i was very happy about that, but it looks like its going to be a bit more work to keep it running. The first day i had it going, i would have to nurse the gas pedal to keep it from stalling at idle. After a little while it would lope around from ~300 to ~800 rpm at idle, and then when it was up to temp, it ran like a dream, although it idled a hair lower than my 83 n/a, i don't think thats a big deal at all. During the "phase" which the idle was loppy, reving it would cause the motor to stall when you let off the gas. I found that performance increased somewhat when i switched from a battery with 0 charge (not even enough to make the door alarms ring). After it was running alright, i took it for a quick spin, and it pulled hard. The performance easily met what i expected of it. The idle smoothed out, and it had no problem laying down rubber, and doing brakestands. Well fast forward 24 hours to today. I had to go show my dad the beast. The battery i had the day before wasn't there anymore, so i just boosted it off of my car so he could hear it run. Well unfortunately it wasn't quite so well behaved. First of all, when i turned the key, nothing would happen, not even a click, but the lights would still dim. Everyone in a while it crank, which would result in it roaring to life no problem...for a little while. So i worked the pedal to keep it idling around 1k rpm or so until it came up to temp. But even after then, whenever i would rev it, it would just want to die again unless i caressed the gas. And whenever it would stall, it wouldn't want to crank again. Also, if i put it in drive and locked to brakes while reving it to build boost, it would die immediately after. Even if it only reved to 3k. So i have 2 problems i have to diagnose here. The not wanting to idle, and the starting issue. I'm fairly certain that that is a fuel issue. Keep in mind this car sat for years before i started it. Not to sure about the starting problem. I didn't play with it to narrow down any possible culprits. After it wouldn't start, i'd try fiddling with the shifter, disconecting the battery, and wiggling the key back and forth. I still seemed pretty random though. The starting would not even click, so does that mean its getting no power? Anyways, i hope theres enough info there to help you guys suggest some possible problems and remedies. If you need more info, let me know. Thanks in advance -Max
  2. It would look pretty decent on a tubbed out drag car, but any less is pretty gross.
  3. Don't buy anything off ebay thats advertised as JDM. Its the sellers best way of selling junk to kids.
  4. After refinishing my 6 spokes on my 83, i think i'll be keeping them for a wheel. Like many cars from the factory, the wheels have too much offset for my liking. I'd like to space them out a good inch on the back, however on zx's (prolly z's too), there is no hub going through the rim, meaning all the weight is being taken by the 4 studs. I can't see putting another inch of leverage being helpfull. Would it be safe to do this?
  5. Looks spectacular. I hope you keep the air dam and side skirts black. Can't tell if there primered or just dusty, but i think they'd look awesome in gloss black.
  6. Several years ago i nearly complete a spud rifle, with a stock i whittled myself. It was made with a 1/2" copper pipe barrel, and 1 1/4" chamber. I used a barbeque lighter for the ignition source. One wire was grounded on the copper chamber, and the other went to a home made "sparkplug" made of copper wire, gaped just enough for the inside surface of the copper chamber that a spark would arc across when you pull the trigger. To load it, i took a filler valve from a lighter and mounted it on the chamber, so that fueling it up was just a matter of pressing an aerosol can of butane on the valve for a second or too. I never finished mounting thw trigger, and never got the spark plug to work consistently. I was prolly about 13 when i made it.
  7. (waiting for wife and pussy jokes)
  8. These things are pretty common up here in canada now. Don't forget that they come with a targa top too (and i'm not talking about the roadsters).
  9. thanks:cheers: took a good 5-6 hours per rim, but i think it was worth it.
  10. to bad those louvers aren't molded. I think they'd look pretty good like that.
  11. They had an episode devoted to testing car myths. Remember earl the sacraficial caddy? I'll try and think up some more though.
  12. yeah, well my body's got dings and scratches in the paint, so i'm not to concerned. They look infinate time better than they did with the pitted quarter cenury old laquer. I'm satisfied, but the paint didn't adhere to well. I just used plain enamel paint on rough cast aluminum, which i cleaned with scotchbrite. Some flaked off when i pulled the masking off. Also i didn't clearcoat them, as i'd like to be able to repolish them carfully. I did wax them with car wax in the hopes that it would slow down oxidation.
  13. Just spent the past 3 days sanding, polishing my 6 spokes. Heres the result: I did this with the tires and valves on, so i couldn't get very close to the valve stems. And also, there is really deep pitting from where the previous weights were that won't come out.
  14. yeah, i looked into them, and although there called gas-a-just, there not adjustable are they? Well i guess they should do for another year. This whole camber adjustement deal is gonna cost a lot more than i originally thought. And i need to bushings too.
  15. Well, i just took the back wheel off for the first time, and it turns out i've got kyb gas-adjust shocks back there. woohoo! No more need for struts (at least rear), so more money for aligment stuff. Also, i was looking into the penultimate rear crossmember for the 510. Anyone ever made one for a zx? looks like this: I would assume coupes and 2+2's use different x-members? If i can get my hands on a spare x-member, i'm gonna try building one of these.
  16. i can see the z31 in the front, but not the skyline in the back. Same colour as mine though.
  17. Alright, camber plates should do just fine for the front. I'm still not to keen on slotting the x-member though. Is there any sort of adustable rear control arm available? Or maybe a set of offset bushings (although that prolly wouldn't provide enough ajdustability). I'm alsa worried about an alignment shop having trouble performing an aligment with this sort of setup. Also, i talked to a local 510 driver, how said the bolts tend to slide around over time, even when there tacked down. Especially driving our pothole filled roads in winnipeg. He mentioned a penultimate x-member, but i can't seem to find any info on the net about how it works. Looks like lowering my car is gonna cost about twice what i originally though. Especially if i do the bushings while i'm at it.
  18. haha, its riding on p-shop suspension for the time being:tongue:
  19. I just noticed the other day that i could not get my belts to lock up. I'll likely be going with fiero seats this summer, and this pic caught my eye: http://www.2bluesc.com/pictures/Other/interior/seats22.jpg So i'm thinking i'll run a race style harness with that. That sad part is that harness's are not legal here, so i may still be forced to wear my non functioning stock belt around town, and maybe just the lap belt for safety.
  20. well wouldn't you be limited to just truck wheels?
  21. I know there is no factory camber (and caster) adjustment on the s130. However, at stock ride height, its already off, and i plan to lower my car within the next few months. What aftermarket parts are available to correct camber? I've already heard of slotting the control arm mounts on the cross member. Are there any other options?
  22. Well a harness will kill you unless its mounted at shoulder level. Otherwise, it as you fly forward, it will pull down and compress your spine.
  23. well its idles and runs fine. Would worn injectors a crappy spray pattern maybe cause it?
