Car starts but backfires and loss of power
fastzcars replied to Naroko's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
I dont know about your engine trouble, but your bearings are WAY too tight if you torque the spindle nut to 25 FT/LBS and leave it at that! You have to torque it to 25 ftlbs then back it off an 1/8 to a 1/4 of a turn. You should be about to spin the disc/wheel freely. If there is ANY drag you will go through this again and again. Good luck. -
I caught it, but was thinking Tim Allen would be a better host for the show? Jay Leno was an obvious choice, but I think they couldn't possibly pay him enough to do it!

Rear Disk brake conversion problem
fastzcars replied to Jonas240z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
great to hear you found the problem!! Did you ground down that offending "mounting point" on the MM bracket or the strut housing? A picture would help others in this case. And I would email ross and tell him what you found so he can either modify the brackets and or include instructions so this doesn't happen to other customers in the future! -
doh!!!! i didn't check the date!!! how in the heck did this thread pop back up from the dead.

Rear Disk brake conversion problem
fastzcars replied to Jonas240z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
something was not machined right. remove and inspect the mount surface of the MM brackets. and check the inside of the rotors as well. -
did you change the pilot bushing/bearing in the crank? if that is worn out the input shaft of the trans has no support and will take out your tranny.

Subaru rack V8 power steering runs hot
fastzcars replied to sweetride2go's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
you need to add a small oil cooler! even the subi used a long "U" shaped aluminum tube to act like a cooler/. I just went on summits racing web page and bought the smallest oil cooler they sold and installed it on the RETURN low presurre side of the line to the pump. that should take care of your problem -
Track of 240z compared to S13 (240SX)
fastzcars replied to New-to-240z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
so who is doing your s13 swap? are they in O.C.? I don't know of many shops willing to do such a coversion. And if you don't mind me asking how much are they charging? back to the 5 lug question, you won't regret it. I did the 5 lug route and I love the selection of rims available me! From mustang to 370z wheels/rims. -

It sounds like the master cylinder has developed an internal leak. Here's a link that well help explain the functions of the hydraulics of the clutch. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.4g63turbo.com/tech/images/clutch-adjustment/clutch-01.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.4g63turbo.com/tech/eclipse-clutch-adjustment.html&usg=__T06O_FADpu4aKNDx7m-bnzHGdWA=&h=480&w=640&sz=50&hl=en&start=44&itbs=1&tbnid=UAUulX_mkiKSVM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dclutch%2Bmaster%2Bcylinder%26start%3D40%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D20%26tbs%3Disch:1

5 lug and 4 wheel disc brakes
fastzcars replied to ktmp's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Contact this guy, he's been doing this for 20 plus years! If anyone would know he would! Just a warning he has very little time to be on the phone because he's a one man machine shop. And he has little patience for stupid questions. Just be quick in your questions. http://designproductsracing.com/ -

Moderm Motorsperts have an aluminum front hub with stock offset. http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=71&PHPSESSID=7293df031f75ee48f6c19a609e67e650 -
Actually it's for a Gen1 SBC with a 1 piece rear main seal. It's a 10.5 inch alum flywheel . It cost me $719 from a local speedshop. It's just a little taller than my old setup (Ram duel friction). I had to readjust my Hydraulic throwout bearing about 1/8" .

Got a new McCleod RST twin disc clutch! I figured with 350 whp and 150 nitrous shot I needed the extra holding power! Can't wait to get this thing on the road!

Tires on 17x7 rims
fastzcars replied to Delasangre4231's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I had 225's on 7 in rims. I think they look just right. Besides I think 235-45 are too tall a tire in the front of a stock body car, they will rub the front and back of the wheel opening when you turn. The 225's barely cleared when I had them on. -
I don't have the parts you requested , but have you tried Zbarn? Here's there webpage, My link

Play in driver front wheel/hub
fastzcars replied to Cutlass372's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yes, a loose gland nut would sure feel like a loosewheel bearing. -
Just an update guys. My motor guy found the probable cause of the failure. We found that 2 of the valve springs lost tension. most if not all of the springs lost 10 to 20 lbs. They should have been in the 130lbs range for a 1.800 inch installed height. most were at 109 to 111 lbs and the 2 that failed were 86 and 87 lbs. We figured that the springs were letting the lifter pound the cam to death!!! The springs were the old style beehive blue stripped springs (26918)This was before the new updated replacement springs were avaiable. The new springs are suppose to handle 0.625 lifts and are stiffer than the old springs (375 lbs VS 313 lbs). I'm getting the new billet cam this friday. But it looks like I won't be able to make this weekends Motorsports BBQ! And I paid for the dyno run too!!!
-
So I guess the moral of the story is , get a billet cam made if your going to run a big roller cam. . O well it's just money! Can't take it with you!

Hi Guys, I was going to change out my clutch when I decided to pull the drivetrain and do a refresh on my motor, just in case. After all it has 12,000 miles and I do race it on the drag strip as well as on the road course. Now there was no smoke and it ran pretty strong, the only indication that I had a problem was what I thought was an igition miss on high RPM (5800 to 5900 rpm) The motor shop found 2 cam lobes wiped out! This is a Comp cams XR294HR hydraulic roller. Here are some pictures. I hope you guys and give me some clues as to what might I look for to prevent this from happening again.
-
sorry dude! can't be done. I have 17x9's and they are a VERY tight fit. 16x8's are doable.
