  1. You know, I've looking for a 2 door 510 project car for a while now but after seeing just how good the wagons can look, I might just widen my search to include them. Congrats, seems like you got a good deal! Four bangers seem like the way to go in 510s, maybe a turbo'd KA?
  2. Thats 74_5.0L_Zs car, Very very nicely done indeed! http://forums.hybridz.org/member.php?find=lastposter&t=121617
  3. Wow, lots of good taste on this board it's already been said but its worth mentioning again me thinks: E30 - S52/S54 maybe even a turbocharged 318is? E21 - S52/S54 in a Euro spec e21/323is would be sick 3.0CSi - S52/S54, can you fit a V8 in one of those things? First gen celica, what a hot little number! Volvo P1800 - I'm currently working on a 62 P1800, swapping over a B234f BMW 2002 - M30, maybe an S52 (Friend of mine built one with full E36 M3 suspension, basically a 2002 body tub welded to a E36 M3 floor pan..loads of fun! Opel Manta - YES YES YES, had a chance to buy one of these for 300$ about 6 years ago and passed on it for some stupid reason, Doh! Honda N600 - Had one of these at one point in time, was planning on a B18 swap but that never happened. MGBGT - good styling, ancient suspension. there is one running around SA with a CA18DET in it. MkI rabbit - I have an un natural love for these things and will have one in my stable some day. theres just something about a slammed old school Golf! Subaru Brat with WRX/Sti driveline. I'm not sure if its possible without mutilating the Brat, but boy would that take people by surprise! and Justin, I LOVE those Audi Quattro Coupes but I've heard nothing but nightmares about maintaining one..any truth to that? I'm not sure what my next project will be as I have many choices and lots of desires. My heart is leaning toward a Lotus 7 type car with a 'busa or Rotary power train but I just don't know. I would really like to have something a bit more practical in the long run. hmmmm....
  4. Hey man I know how you feel. Lost a few GFs to my vehicular addiction in the past. One day I simple had enough working on cars and spreading myself amongst 5 projects and once. I figured that my time was better spent working and updating myself, increasing my life experiences, VS spending time on inanimate objects that cannot reciprocate beyond our own person sense of satisfaction and achievement. Eventually I sold all but one, it was hard to part with them but I realized that they were doing me no good, I was working on five projects at once, never having time to finish any significant progress. I concluded that I still love cars and that one day I will have my 1972 BMW 2002 and my 1972 Honda N600, and my 1969 Plymouth valiant, and another RHD 1973 240Z in my stable (along with a few other should i be lucky enough!) but I will work on these cars one at a time, devoting my self (and my spare cash) fully so that I can see a project completely through to the end in a timely manner so I can actually enjoy the end product..and not just work work work. Life is very short and we can't take our ♥♥♥♥ with us, not only that but even if you did finish all your projects eventually, you can only drive one at a time. Prioritize and pick one or two and sell the rest. See that project (or those) to the end and get some enjoyment out of them.
  5. Thanks for the new pictures, they speak volumes. I think what we are seeing is the potential for a lot of hidden rust. The front fender frame rail shot says quite a bit to me as most of the S30s with this kind of rot at the fenders/frame rail and hatch area had major I$$ues 95% of the time. I guess I just see rust and cringe...without a physical inspection and a few hours its just a guess on my part. Even with those new photos though I would still say that 2,500 is a fair price...maybe a bit less if more is found during inspection.
  6. Its very close to stock, the only difference being the sump I welded to the bottom, other than that the tank mounts as a stock one would.
  7. Autometer makes sealed gauges if your worried about the rain and moisture. My car never sees rain nor sleet nor snow so It's never really been a concern. Should I find myself caught in a sneaky Texas thunderstorm, I can easily remove the gauge + housing from its base and shove it under the hood. Intercooler is a Garrett core put together for me by Corky Bell at BEGi several years ago.
  8. Right, I understand the mirror situation, I'm just thinking about what I would have to consider as an immediate (or near future) expense to get the car where I would want it to be. 2,500 is just what it would be worth to me considering what my vision for the car would be and what parts I would have to purchase...same goes for the L20. I understand why its there, its just not what I would want. I'd say for a potential buyer with similar tastes and goals as I, a 5 speed (or even 4 speed) swap with an L28 would increase my desire ten fold. even a manual swap with the L20 would be more desirable to me. Value is a strange thing, perceived completely differently by the buyer and purchaser. The right combo will yield maximum satisfaction for both parties. I'm also getting to the point where I'm sick of repairing rust and dealing with paint and body guys. The more work there is in a car, the less desirable it is to me...selling is all in finding the right buyer.
  9. External Fuel Pressure gauge... there are a few more S30 owners with more than one gauge on the cowl. I mounted mine using the grill so that I could remove them anytime I wanted without leaving holes or marks on the cowl.
  10. Did you paint the car yourself? The reason I ask is that I don't want to sound critical of your if work if you did, but my first thought is "Oh wow, there is some major work hiding under that paint." To me the rampant over spray suggests a hasty cover up by someone that didnt really care about the car but just wanted it to "not look as bad.". The interior looks ok with only some minor niggles, is the dash crack free? looks like it might have a few but its hard to tell. dig the scottish floor mats. its really hard to say with out looking at it, my first reaction is 2,500. The auto and L20 kinda kill it for me, along with the backwards ZX door mirrors, mystery body condition and with the ru$t you've already mentioned.
  11. Looking good phil! looking forward to hearing how it sounds.
  12. Thanks for all the links and info everyone, I will do some more research tomorrow and stop by the local shop this weekend to check some out.
  13. Tempting, I'm trying to do this on the cheap...would you just sell the parts and I can jig it and assembly it myself? either way Its probably out of my price range but I'm curious for sure.
  14. The plastic under the seat is broken and cracked in several places, there are also a few pieces missing. I also think that visually a modern seat will compliment the look of the bike without being too obnoxious and loud. I could be wrong though! that Felt looks good...hmmm. I've been eyeing the Selle Italia seats for the last few hours...some of them are 500$?!! thats crazy talk! Why are my hobbies so expensive...why couldnt I just listen to my mum and collect precious moments figurines.
  15. I was inspired by Zero's ultra cool Bamboo bike to re-animate my long rigor-mortised Fixie project and too also get some ideas for my daily rider MotoBecane. The Fixie comes second at this point simply because its just parts now, but my Motobecane is in desperate need of a new toosh cushion...the original 1972 piece is just not doing it for me. I'm looking for opinions on saddles in the price range of 0-150$ (I say zero$ because I'm looking locally for a saddle that needs recovering so I can save some scrilla) My Daily commute is rough Urban streets, lots of stops with maybe one mile of flat out. I do ride this bike occasionally on 20+ mile journeys but not very often. here is a pic of the offending member and its associated bits: Any Ideas? I would like to re-wrap the bars in beige leather so if I could find a comfy seat that matches I would be all over it.
  16. Flippin sweet! and at under 15 pounds! I've been looking at building my own frame for my slow going fixie project and bamboo might just be the way to go considering the experimental nature of my neglected project. Lately I've been loving my 1972 Motobecane Grande Tourer. The previous owner bought it new in philly. he road it all through college, his first job and then in MS150's from then on until two years ago when I acquired it. I was going to convert it but I just cant bring myself to tear this perfect machine apart: Anywho, that Bamboo bike is beyond cool! congrats on a successful project!
  17. Would look mean if it was flat black and debadged. The current colour is a bit too sassy for my tastes...
  18. Has anybody looked at a JcWhitney catalog or Steele rubber products catalog for a roll of squeegee weatherstriping...seems like there must be a manufacturer of the stuff around somewhere that sells it by the foot... maybe a trim and upholstery shop? EDIT: Think I might have found it: http://www.automobiletrim.com/window-channel.html bottom of the page, Morris/MG part number WS/777 If thats not it try this page at Metrommp.com http://metrommp.com/metrocart/PartListByType.cfm?Type=Window%20Channels%20%26%20Sweepers One more: http://restorationspecialties.com/ there catalog is in PDF form and I have yet to look at it but here it is just in case, somebody might find the link useful in the future.
  19. If you do something like this you might need to "adjust" the glass: http://www.cardomain.com/id/chevyz240
  20. Short answer is yes, However, its not easy. It involves lots of water and a grinder or a sand blaster...you cant really just "slice" a chunk of glass off you have to slowly remove material from the edge.... If you have a local HotRod or Kustom shop thats familiar with chopping tops they should be able to give you a quote. Have spares handy
  21. Looking good, Nice little TR6 back there!
  22. Frankenstein! Frankenstein! Frankenstein! One of the movies my current girlfriend and I watched on our second or third date.....yeah....she rocks.
  23. I bought mine from Black dragon, they are reproductions and they dont fit. The door on the s30 kicks up towards the rear of the door and the SS trim follows this slight curve...well the repros dont have this curve so when you try to fit it...well...it doesnt. You can try to bend the trim, but because of its shape it twists while you bend it. sigh, I have the repros on my desk along with the original trim, My plan is to disassemble the repros removing the soft squeegee and then installing them on my old trim after I re polish them. there are some other problems too...just a little too short, poor quality when compared to original etc etc.
  24. I had a 72 Honda N600 sedan and let me tell you getting anything in there is going to be a heck of an endeavor. I bought mine with the intention of fitting a turbo b18 into it but lack of funds due to my 5 other cars but the project on permanant hold. I ended up selling the shell for what I paid for the whole car so I made a little cash on it, but I wish I would have concentrated on that project instead of some of the others. anywho, as far as other FWD swaps go I would imagine it just depends on donor and the donee, axles will probably be the biggest hurdle if your trying some oddball swap. Just about any Honda swap you can think of has been done, its just a matter of wading through all the petty useless drivel that some of the fanboys spew forth on the message boards... some though are much better than others, just keep searching.
